Yes I received the same email. Rather strange really since MS usually has more than enough software to fulfill initial demand, right after a launch. Not shipping it for a few weeks I can understand but for 7 weeks? Plainly strange.

I wonder if those that pay full retail get there's first ;) hmmmm

I wouldn't doubt that those that will pay FULL retail will get theirs first, plus MS might have not realized the demand for their software/BFD rebate...because of a site like this, the news about the BFD spread like crazy.

Count me in as another who's received their $100 rebate. Sent in Very first week of December, called the rebate # January 8th as the website had no mention of my rebate. The kind CSR let me know that everything was on track and I'd get my check several weeks later. January 18th, I received my check! :D

Hell, I already owned MS Office 2004, but re-purchased it to get 2008 at this fantastic deal. :p

How long did it take to get an email from Microsoft after sending in the form for the 2008 upgrade?

Don't worry--you're not the only one who hasn't received an email from MS. I got worried earlier in the week and called them and they were nice enough to confirm that they had my order in their system. They just hadn't gotten around yet to sending me the email, calculating the estimated shipping time, etc. I expect to see the software sometime when the weather starts to warm up significantly . . . .

The new expected ship date for your product is 2/18/2008.

Anyone get another e-mail from Microsoft today?

The new expected ship date for your product is 2/18/2008.

If you still wish to receive this product, if available by the new expected ship
date shown above, please let us know by responding to this e-mail and placing an X in front of option #1 below, or by contacting our customer service department at 506-694-4328. If you do not respond to this e-mail or contact our customer service department within 30 days, your order will be cancelled and a refund issued, if applicable.

If you wish to receive the product when it becomes available, even if after the expected ship date, you may update your order by responding to this e-mail and placing an X in front of option #2 below, or by contacting our customer service department at 506-694-4328.

That's kinda crazy that you HAVE to respond to this or your order will get automatically cancelled!

That said... I'm in NO hurry. $31 for $600 in software is a steal... especially considering MS probably won't update the Office Suite for another 4 years.

I got the email, too. :(

I think you are WRONG about that, though <--- Edit: Sorry, I'm wrong because you got a similar but different email.

Just above the section you copied into your post it says:

If you wish to receive this product, if available by the new expected ship date shown above, NO RESPONSE IS REQUIRED.

It's a little confusing, but together it seems like they would only cancel your order if the product is delayed yet again. If another delay occured, I be pretty suprised if they automatically canceled your order, though. Seems like they would send another e-mail like this one, where the default is again to wait.

There are laws in some states about making it easy for customers to opt out of orders when they are delayed more than 30 days. I think this e-mail is their way of meeting those requirements.

I think your quote above is from the older e-mail, no? I don't see anything stating 'no response necessary' in the one I got today.

I received the e-mail today also, and I was surprised to notice that I needed to respond in order to keep my order alive. The previous e-mails (which looked VERY similar) indicated that I didn't need to do anything...

My new date is 03/10/2008 though...

My letter says:

That says they will cancel the order. There is nothing like the sentence you quoted.

I am reminded of the just how high Microsoft's customer service is.

They had a lot of time to compute the number of units that could be ordered. I would think they could contract someone to get more units to ship.

UPDATE
Just spoke to Microsoft. The e-mail is not worded well (something like Windows dialog boxes). The intent of the letter was to tell me the ship date had slipped from 3/3 to 3/10. Even though the e-mail explicitly states differently, the order will not be cancelled. The agent said they have been getting lots of calls about it.

I asked about the long delay since I put the order in December. He said there is a clause about general availability was around 1/15 there was a line about six to eight weeks for shipment. It is coming Airborne for pete's sake. But what they really meant was when they have enough inventory.

I wonder if I would get my order sooner if everyone stopped buying for a month. Chances are the reverse will be true and the shipment date will slip again. Sigh.

A MAJOR release and they are out of stock already, wtf are they thinking?

I wonder if we bought the $600 copy vs. the free rebated copy if it would have already shown up?

How many did they press, 100 copies???

I got that same email today as well. Im not sure if I should just not respond or respond back to ship it when its available even if its delayed agin.

Called back today and they said my order was in Process which means it is being packaged to be shipped. I checked online and it also says Order in process.

He said call back Monday for a tracking number.

Now I just have to figure out exactly how to install it without it corrupting all my fonts :D

That's weird, I got my email yesterday with shipping date of 2/18. It didn't say anything about having to respond. Why the hell would they assume you want to cancel your order by default (besides screwing you over of course)?

I received the same email and it definitely said that if I wanted to the keep the order live in their system I needed to respond, which is just silly.

Still, I did respond and they emailed me back immediately and said my order is active etc.

Funny thing is on a related rebate, i received a separate letter from MS indicating i had forgot to include the cover of the manual for the $100 rebate. Clearly I had done this and was noticing that others on various forums have reported that dreaded rebate letter.

I called them and they immediately noted it was an error, because apparently they keep digital scanned copies of the materials you send in. So problem resolved and rebate wheels set in motion once again.

Well, here're the entire contents of the email I got. I guess there must be different versions of the email going out:

Kevin, how did you check your order online? The closest I've come to that (other than the infamous email everyone's been getting) is searching these forums to see what others are hearing.

The initial email I recieved after I placed the order contained a link directly to it. Check that email for the link. I think it's a custom link because it contains a RecieptID in it.

Try that link. Just checked and the latest ship date is now 2/11/08. Last I checked it was shipping in March.

I have no idea what they want for this login.

Just to let everyone know, other than the first email that said my order was placed....I have not received ANY emails from M$.

This is bizarre. I guess I'm behind because I got that email 1/24/08 (last Thursday).

MS is really bugging me. It seems by sending people an ambiguous email, followed by one that looks the same but is actually a do-nothing-and-your-order-is-cancelled email is just a way to hassle people out of getting their upgrade.

Yes order status emails that ask you to reply to keep your order, are really rare and silly. I wonder what giant of customer service and good will thought that one up.
