That sounds like an Academic version - did you get it off the Microsoft Home Use Program (hup.microsoft.com) website or at the university? The HUP is (usually) obtained by getting an authorization code from your employer. Certifying it with Microsoft with an appropriate e-mail address and then ordering online for the cost of media and shipping ($19.95 or so). If you got it from the university, it is probably part of their academic deal.

Office 2008: When will it be availible for Home Use Program?

Yeah I got it from the university but it's for home use so I thought that it was part of the HUP thing. Oh well, i still got it.
This is the email I recieved today from the HUP-Team:

I agree about it the prossing time and shipping time sucking. My co-worked
( a PC user) ordered Office 2007 last month and recived the same info, but she recived her copy in like a week. I just hope that I will have that kind of shipping time. You never know though because this is a new software release and hers has been out for over a year. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Yep, got my backorder notice first thing this morning. You know, for the last month, month and a half we have been patiently waiting for them to update their website with Mac Office 2008. I find it incredibly hard to believe that all this time while they have been dragging their feet on updating the HUP website...and they FINALLY make it available...that it's already on backorder!?!? WTF?!??!

This is ridiculous we all have been waiting for what seems like forever for Office 2008 for Mac to be put up on the HUP site. Now its back ordered just hours after the first orders went in. I am so pissed. I have already contacted my companies HUP administrator about this issue. He who also is an avid Mac user is infuriated, he has been on the phone with Microsoft all morning. Although we still have received no response from them on this issue. I just hope they don't delay the delivery date any more.

OK what are you all doing to make 2008 show up? I've just been through the whole process from scratch including re-signing up using my programme code, and 2008 is nowhere to be seen. A couple of you have mentioned back orders; has it been removed from the site again until it's back in stock?
