I do agree that making the green button default to full screen was a weird choice, and I like the idea of having it configurable instead. But I'll point out that more than half of Mac users are on small-screen laptops, making full screen paired with multiple spaces a huge improvement in multitasking. As many windows as I want, all within a swipe or two of each other, and all completely maximized to use all the available screen space? Yes, please.

I usually have anywhere from 4-8 apps running at once that I alternate between constantly. Fullscreen would mean a lot of annoying swiping between apps. That would be ridiculous.

I've got 13 apps open right now, 6 of which are full screen, and it's working fantastically. I'm not saying it would work for you, I'm saying it works for me, and lots of other people. Dismissing a feature just because it doesn't make sense in your workflow is narrow-minded.

Does anyone know how to get the full screen split view of the email and calendar side by side? I have been trying to find out how to do this but have had no luck. Thanks!

Then why has apple dismissed the option of having app windows maximize instead of going fullscreen?

Still not the same functionality on Mac as on Windows, where's power pivot? Still gimped 32bit.

Tried to full screen... Didn't seem to work?

"Same experience on different platforms" is such bs.

Really?

Every application I use is in full-screen. Notification Center keeps me informed but I do all of my work in full screen except when I need to do work in multiple MS Excel windows. MBP Core i7 Retina w/ 24" Dell 4K UltraSharp display.

I'm reading this thread in full-screen. Running these apps all in full-screen:
  • Reeder
  • Mail
  • Slack
  • Messages
  • Safari
  • iCal
  • Excel
  • Outlook
  • Photos

Bbedit and Deliveries and Lync are in Window mode

You can make a generalization that "Fullscreen is used by very few people" but saying "nobody users it" is technically incorrect.

there are dozens of us! :)

===============

The more important feature Microsoft Office has yet to adopt is Multi-Core support for more than 2 cores. The average file-size of my MS Excel documents is 50 megabytes. Some of them are 80MB.

The fact that I have a beach-ball w/ only 2 of my 8 cores used(Core i7 Quad-Core and Hyperthreading) and my computer isn't even breaking a sweat yet MS Office is costing me valuable time....it's embarrassing. It sometimes takes 60 seconds to render some operations and the CPU could take on more tasks if Office would adopt Grand Central and Full Cocoa

What mouse pad and wrist pad are you using?

Looks like the Ergotron LX Dual Stacking Arm with a Notebook Tray accessory on the lower arm. I checked out but opted for Herman Miller Flo Dual for my displays and a Flo Plus and tray for my laptop) for my set up (I saw it first in a Homeland episode...) the H-M setup is IMHO more attractive and I like the mechanics of the arm much better.

I don't need two external monitors. Is there a way to get a monitor/laptop combo from H-M?

Vast majority of us have no need for it as it hides the dock and menu, ultimately making multitasking a pain in the ass. It really is a redundant feature, one that is actually detrimental to getting things done quickly. Apple should just add an option in system settings to make the green button act as a 'maximize window' without going into fullscreen. It'd satisfy everyone.

That's odd, because the "vast majority" of everyone I work with uses fullscreen every day, when we're immersed in things like video, analytics, DTP and web design. When you really want to focus, block out distractions and get the job done, I think it's great. And I agree with the previous poster that it's especially useful on a small screen - when I'm working on my laptop, I even use Mail in fullscreen sometimes, when I have a lot of emails to plough through.

I never use the dock for multitasking anyway - that's what I call "detrimental to getting things done quickly". Command-Tab and Spotlight are the way to go. I find it much, much faster to navigate with the keyboard, rather than using the dock. I keep the dock hidden, all the time, whether I'm using fullscreen or not. Just as you seem surprised that anyone would use fullscreen, I'm equally surprised to find that you regard the dock as something which helps you get things done more quickly.

Having said all that, I'd be fine with an option in System Preferences to choose how the green button behaves (and even to turn off fullscreen completely if it annoys you too much). Choices are always good, I agree. (I assume you know that you can press alt while clicking the green light, and it maximizes the window without going fullscreen; but I know what you mean - an option to reverse that, so that alt-green would go fullscreen and green would just maximize). But if you came to our office and took a walk around, I think you might be surprised to see how often fullscreen gets used by folks around here!

Absolutely. The setup I have in my second office is exactly what you're wanting - a spot for my laptop alongside my display. In my OP, I offered that I have a Flo Dual (http://store.hermanmiller.com/Products/Flo-Dual-Monitor-Support). The Flo units ship with a VESA mount, which is what I have my displays mounted to. For my second office (the config identical to the one you're asking about), with the Dual I use the VESA mount for the display and the Laptop Mount (http://www.hermanmiller.com/products/accessories/technology-support/laptop-mount.html).

The Flo is good for 20 pounds and very adjustable. I opted for the Flo Plus (with a higher weight limit) in my main office as I'm planning for a 5k iMac with a VESA mount when the new one comes out. I mount a Laptop Mount in my main office as my rMBP travels with me. Cheers!

Thanks, I couldn't find the laptop mount on their site. Wish I could order on their site. Also, can't find a reference to the Flo Plus on their site.

You just can't let this go, huh? That other people find this feature useful and are super happy with it? That lots of people, myself included, appreciate the thought Apple has put into this user experience? No, we all have to align with you and your particular set of gripes.

I already said I thought the default state of the green button was a weird choice, and I agreed with you that it would be nice if it were configurable. Do you read the comments you reply too, or just assume we're all trying to argue with you?

Well... more power to you, I guess.

I hardly use full screen because I usually need access to the desktop, other programs, whatever.

But! I LOVE full split-screen! I even have a program where you can put many different programs into full screen on one screen. Usually, however, I just have split-screen full for two programs, the bare minimum that I need when I'm writing papers.

Same. Cmd+tab can get one around pretty quickly, and my Dock is hidden in any event since I use Alfred to launch what I need.

But must agree with a few earlier posts - using Moom (or something similar) to maximize the app, without going fullscreen and have it pushed right, is very useful. My 2 cents.

Sorry for the delay, I'm in a rural area tethering to my iPad for internet...

No worries there. HM has always been that way, going through local connections - I go through a local architect supply office, but don't worry about a price increase as there's no additional markup. And most of the resellers do ship, again, without any additional markup. Admittedly, their website is a bit difficult to navigate - my only advantage over most people is that I've reviewed so many cut sheets (product documentation) that I know what to ask for.

HM has some links on their web site, but I use their product documentation:
https://www.hermanmiller.com/conten...rature/brochures/Flo_Monitor_Arm_brochure.pdf - look on the last page of the PDF for configurations and Part Numbers, including the Plus options.

If you can't find a nearby reseller, PM me and I'll connect you with my supplier - they can take information over the phone and ship direct if need be, or find you a local connect. BTW, go with Silver. Cheers.

Where is the full single-file installer as standalone Office 2016 updater, much as is available for Office 2011 for Mac?

To use widows resizing the "Old Way" System Prefs > Dock > Double click the window title bar to > Zoom rather than minimise. (OSX 10.11.2) Or just option click the green button..
Best.

Unfortunately their convoluted website and lack of clearly listing what you get is preventing from buying this. I can't even tell if the Flo Dual includes everything I need to get a monitor/laptop setup or if I need to buy anything else for the laptop to mount to.

Anyone come up with a workaround to get an Outlook email (Mac) into _OneNote (Mac) yet? That's the one feature that still sees me using my work pc, given the integration that exists there?

Print to PDF and import? Wonder if Keyboard Maestro could help... Any ideas?
