I've been watching this and getting more and more excited. I eventually went to 2008 and was not happy with it, stuck with it because I did not want to install 2004 again with SL. 2011 looks promising.

One more thing I noticed and this is just nit picking but in the MobileMe sync preference pane it is still listed as Entourage notes instead of outlook notes. Don't know if that is Microsoft side or apple side.

Is font size handling improved? Something that always bugged me about Mac Office was that fonts looked much smaller when viewing a document on a Mac than when viewing on a PC. If you increased the font size or adjusted the zoom level so it looked OK on the Mac then the font was huge when viewed on a PC. Font size handling in Entourage was especially messed up - you'd send an email that looked fine on your Mac and the recipient would get it in a huge looking font when viewed on a PC in Outlook. Any improvements here?

I've noticed this too, but I thought this was a product of us not working Full Screen on a Mac vs working Full Screen on a PC.

Agreed. All I see here is a giant, jumbled mess.

The ribbon is a dramatic improvement over the shotgun blast of shortcuts in Office 2003. Just because over time you learned what all the shortcuts do and where they are does not make it a good UI design. The ribbon is a great way of consolidating the incredible amount of options.

I have the full release version and opinion is mixed. We are a big Microsoft Exchange shop and I'm finding free/busy information not updating correctly vs. Office 2010 for Windows, or Outlook Web App/Access.

If Outlook is to be a success in the enterprise it needs to get basic functions like free/busy right or its unusable. Hopefully these issues will be fixed over time as it would be nice to make Office 2011 a standard. At this point we will not be recommending it to our company.

Compatibility with 3rd party (Endnote etc.)

For those of you in the universities - Dose it compatible with Endnote?

Nope, looks like it doesn't come with one. Maybe MS will release an update or download for remove tool.

Just a thought, any reason you can't use the removal tool that came with Office 2008? I think it just looks for any version of Office that's on your machine, but yeah, they should include a removal tool for the 2011 version.

Does Word still have the "blue background, white text" option? I LOVE this feature and am very unhappy that they took it out of the more recent Windows versions of Office (which I have to use at work). Please tell me they left it in the Mac version!

Does someone with a copy of the new version mind checking this? I know it sounds silly but if it doesn't have this feature it might actually be a dealbreaker for me.

2008 Entourage MBox compatible with 2011 Mac Outlook?

Folks, do you have any information if the Mbox database from 2008 Entourage will be compatible with 2011 Mac Outlook? Assuming 2011 Mac Outlook uses PST files, It will be real cumbersome if one will be required to transform Mbox to PST...I had to do the reverse (PST --> MBox) when I moved from Office 2003 (Windows) to 2008 Office (Mac).

Thoughts?

One can only HOPE

As a serious Excel user, I would like to see a return to VBA, Pivot Tables, etc. And what about the issues of some images not showing when viewed in Word for PC . . .

Have you not seen the list of features? VBA and Pivot Tables are among them.

NoahC,

Are you saying that it works to move the outlook files from Windows to the MAC. I would love to move over all my saved genealogy emails from my pc. Thanks Darlene

Blue background still there

Yes, you can still choose to display white text on a blue background. The checkbox is in the General preferences.

Need to know about excel
I have a question about excel in Office 2011. My daughter in college is having trouble using the earlier mac version 2008 (she is used to the 2010 PC version in school). With the new version will she be able to do descriptive statistics, relative frequency diagrams, cumulative frequency diagram and histograms. If anyone has a copy could they post a thumbnail of the charts tab in the ribbon. Thanks.

I got the Office 2011 last night via bit torrent. It's supposed to be the final release 14.0.0 I think. Fear not... I'm not a pirate.. I have already pre-ordered my copy from Amazon. Anyway, very nice upgrade from 2008. I especially like the speed. Finally seems as fast as the Windows counterparts. I am glad that I downloaded and tried it first because I discovered that Outlook doesn't work with Exchange Server 2003. Not happy about that but it's my wife's problem because she's the one who's workplace uses 2003. I have 2007 so I use Apple's Mail app and iCal. After I discovered that, it made my purchase decision easy... get the Home Office version! I ordered the family pack for $149. Great price IMHO.
