"Mac users need Office because it helps them work with the Windows world."

I work in both the Mac and Windoze versions of Office, and the two versions are hugely incompatible. If this guy thinks they work well together, he is massively ill-informed.

Where are the beta?

I've been wanting to test some plugins on the beta versions but I couldn't find them on technet? Where are you guys finding the beta versions to test?

The beta was always closed and invite only (I was not a part of it). If you are looking for a trial, that will come later as they always have.

I really hate the fact that there is no 2 system pricing, WITH OUTLOOK for a reasonable amount of money. You want outlook, we need another 125$. You want it on your home mac and your portable, we need another 100$.

The academic version offers outlook via MSFT's academic site, for $99.95. Unfortunately I don't know how many licenses come with it, likely just one.

On another note, although it is a massive improvement and Outlook is awesome, it is useless to me because it has no Exchange support prior to 2007. We are still running on 2003 here. I also cannot sync with entourage due to lack of calendar sync. Fail.

Its broken, well at least for me it is.

Word, Powerpoint, Excel... They are all great, finally Office looks and feels like the windows counterpart which is great.

I switched because of Outlook, after i migrated across i discovered that they cut syncing of Outlook with Ical "cause it was to difficult*, therefore i have no way to sync Outlook with my Iphone which has been nothing but a pain in the a**.

They will reintroduce the feature at some unspecified date... Yay for Microsoft

iPhone/ MobileMe/ Etc

I'm likely to upgrade for the business before too long, but I do have a question I'm hoping beta testers and new adopters can answer. I like Mail, and I like iCal, but I don't LOVE either of them. I am curious about moving to Outlook, however, I use MobileMe to sync calendars, mail, contacts, etc to my iPhone and to another machine. Would I still be able to do any of this with Outlook? What limitations are there?

Actually the only part of Office I want for my Mac is outlook. Wish they'd sell a standalone version for like $50 but I know I'm dreaming. Mail is OK and I've looked at some alternatives but none of them work for me.

Isn't there a way to do this with Exchange syncing..?

Given the age of Exchange '03, I am not surprised. Simply put, Exchange 2003 was never built with Mac integration in mind and they are not going to re-tool it when they have released two versions since then.

The limitations that Office has are the same limitations that Apple's Mail, Address Book, and iCal are subject to - Exchange '03 were written to support non Outlook clients and ActiveSync was never designed for the Mac desktop - that's why EWS was written back when Exchange 2007 was being developed. MS decided to use a purpose built system instead of a bolted on half solution.

Does this version of office for mac have the data analysis pack in excel? If it does i can finally get rid of parallels...

No, there is no excuse for not supporting it.
Why does MS support it happily in Office 2010 in PC?
Somehow the geniuses behind the PC version cracked the DaVinci code that is Exchange 2003 but the Mac geniuses couldn't?
I am not asking them to support synching devices, but basic email functionality should not be a bolt on.

Nope, but here's the solution.

What's interesting are the features they included, but what they did not include for yet another time so we wiil have to buy office 2013.

I sure hope people have realized that they shouldn't be giving these guys a cent until they start respecting customers.

In a typical MS fashion they 'll have the spotlight for a few days until the new iwork is released.

Btw, can this new word open pages files?

I'm hoping to get it for $9.95. :)

I see Office 2008 for Mac on the Microsoft's HUP site, does anyone think/know if they will offer Office 2011 for Mac with MS's HUP?

Nope but I just emailed MS about this. Was hoping they'd list 2011 today. Once 2011 is available I'll pick up a copy along with 2010 for my Windows 7 laptop. Good deal for sure.

Been using it for a couple of weeks, definitely the best version of Office for Mac yet. Well worth the upgrade.

Maybe we will see it in the Mac App Store when it goes live and Windows Phone 7 is released and installed on phones.

It's just to hard to understand!

I feel fine doing extremely complex paginations with inDesign, Quarkexpress or Pagemaker, but I just can't understand who word works, and it's suppose to be a non professional app?!?! Pages is so much pleasant to use! If I need something complex I rather use a proper app like indesign, than spending a hole day screaming at word, or excel, or powerpoint while I try to do something which should be trivial.

Note that there is also an academic version available for $99 as well:

Google Shopping lists several vendors selling for about $90.

I might try this over iwork
