For God's sake.

I also left Cole Hamels' 15 ks on my bench last night. I started Bartolo Colon instead.

Damn you, unpredictable youth!

Why oh why couldn't the A's save some of the runs they scored on Friday for Saturday and Sunday?? :(

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- A day after getting swept by the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees said Monday they plan on having top pitching prospect Phil Hughes make his major league debut Thursday against Toronto.

Yankees manager Joe Torre didn't rule out that the 20-year-old right-hander, taken in the first round of the 2004 amateur draft, might make more than one start.

"If we're comfortable and we sense he's comfortable, we'll see what we do," Torre said before the Yankees played Tampa Bay.

Hughes is 2-1 with a 3.94 ERA in three starts this season at Triple-A Scranton, and he pitched six shutout innings last Wednesday at Syracuse, allowing two hits, striking out 10 and walking none.

Isn't it a little early for that kind of desperation?

Apparently not, but then, I enjoy the sight of Yankee fans suffering. ;)

Speaking of desperation, is it too early to replace Juan Pierre in the field with, say, an inanimate object? And I thought Lofton had trouble judging fly balls.

A Gold Glove he has not, but I think he'll settle down. In the past he's been a proficient outfielder. We are going to miss Jason Repko as a late-inning substitution, though. That was the original plan I presume. Unfortunately, he's got the bad habit of crashing into things at flank speed.

On the bright side, it would inspire Vin to break out a Pete Reiser anecdote.

going to dolphin stadium tonight to see the braves, and i have the yankees to thank (no tv in south florida due to yankees game). but the rest of you can see this on tbs.

chipper is having his 35th birthday and i hope it's a good one. and i hope no larry chants either.

When on earth did the Phillies move Brett Myers to their bullpen? And does said move seem ridiculously stupid to anyone else? I know he's off to a tough start, but it's April!

All I can think is that they want Myers to go Papelbon. But ... it's hard to get to your closer when you suck as much as the Phillies, no?

I thought so at first, but you're that far back at the START of the year? You gotta try something, so they did. We'll see how it works out.

If he doesn't get to the ball, then you run run run, I think 90% of MR could get extra bases on a ball that JP does not catch ... why? He has a horrible arm.

Of course I'm being facetious, He's a reasonable outfielder and he used to be an excellent lead off man but he's been declining ... thats a reality. Sure he can turn it around, I just don't see it happening.

i was on tv!!!

for those that watched tbs last night, you may have seen me when hanley's near homer was interfered with by the fan, and i was the braves fan to the right. national debut baby!!!

and can you explain why you walk ryan langerhans...he sucks. oh well, we win anyway, and i had a bunch of fun at the game. i'll post a few pics from yesterday's game sometime this week.

oh, game was on in south florida.

Hmm.... If I had known what you looked like I probably would have picked up on that. Oh well- Congrats on the TV debut!

They were worried about power- Orr doesn't quite have the strength of Langy, but a well place single really did the trick!

He's been hitting better lately, more line drives to the outfield. But he still hits an awful lot of weak groundballs, and he doesn't leg out nearly as many infield hits as I expected. I was most startled to find out that Pierre's OBP is barely higher than Betemit's, which is amazing considering how poorly Betemit has hit so far. Oh, the power of being willing to walk.

I knew Pierre had a weak arm, but I really didn't expect him to have so much trouble judging fly balls. It's been disconcerting.
