The Rockies are a nice up and coming team, granted the Yankees should of beaten them but I see a lot of young talent. Kas Matsui that blew for the Mets really is having a nice season in Denver.

Of note the Yankees recalled 1st baseman Andy Philips and released Josh Phelps.

Baltimore has really hit the skids losing 9 in a row.

Very happy that they called up Phillips. I have always liked the guy and I believe he deserves a shot.

Not sure how the Sox will handle him now. They could bring up Gabbard, who didn't do that bad in his last start against the Braves, to take a start for Schilling...

Anyone think the yankees should trade Hughes for Teix?

Not a chance in hell. Hughes is going absolutely nowhere. They are building around him, that's for sure- the kid is amazing.

This also got me thinking again about how huge their payroll is going to get (not that it isn't already). If they are going to keep A Rod (which I doubt), that's a huge chunk of change. New contracts for Posada and Rivera after this season. I would sign Cano and Melky to big contracts (especially Cano) and they will need to sign new pitchers and a first baseman next year. Gonna be interesting.

For some reason, I'm still doubtful of Jon Lester right now. Anyone have his numbers in AAA?

I saw him pitch a few weeks ago in Pawtucket and he did very well.

His stats for AAA this season:

1-3, 2.11 ERA, 8 Games, 38.1 IP, 31 H, 9 ER, 1 HR, 12BB, 25K, Opp Bat Avg: .221

He's been doing great. Don't look at the Wins/Losses because the PawSox offense is pretty bad.

edit: oo, I completely missed fotografica's post up there. oh well.

No, the Yankees need to stop trading away all their prospects for these old ass veterans.

druw got benched today, he's batting .202 and harris is in center.

We also traded away McBride for Ledezma. We have pretty good successes with mid-year trades, so I'm hoping this will be more of the same.
Ledezma's numbers aren't that good though.

Devine also got the callup tonight- for those of you who don't know Devine, he set a record by allowing two grandslams in his first two starts. (After fanning the first 4 batters he faced)

espn is still being red sox biased...

Great, A Drew HR to start things off.

Anyways, in response to you- I wouldn't know, ESPN's blacked out as Fox Sports South has the broadcast rights for tonights game.

For some reason, I'd rather hear the sox commentary right now. **avoids stones**

I watched mondays (I watch every game...) and I actually enjoyed the commentary. As long as that one old guy isn't speaking I'm fine(ish) with ESPN's broadcasting.

I'm so sick of Drew and Lugo. Why the **** didn't Theo just keep Trot and Gonzales? ugh.

We really need to just call Ellsbury up and make him CF or RF starter (Make Coco the other one). Trade Drew and Pena for a utility outfielder like Kapler and Roberts used to be.

Drew's batting .236, hit two out with 7 RBI's Friday night. But I forgot, this is Boston. I keep forgetting you guys are at another level than the rest of baseballdem. You and the NY franchise are too big for us to understand. But we try. :p

She's talking about andruw jones, not JD Drew.

The point is, I still don't see why Boston fans are in love with the exaggerated memory of a Trot Nixon, and won't give Drew a shot.

He started well, has hit a natural down, and Friday hits two out with 7 RBIs, and he's still called a "loser". Trot's stats are almost across the board under those of Drew this year, even though neither is having a good first half.

Thats just how Boston fans are. We give the players a hard time until they prove themselves. Yeah Drew has a had a couple of good games, but he hasn't been consistent at all.

Look at Okajima early this year. Boston fans weren't really sure about him and he gave up a homerun on his first pitch. But then he got that huge save in the first Yankees series and has been lights out ever since, so everyone loves him now.

Everyone in Boston loved Trot, so we are still not sure if Drew will be able to deliver like trot used to.

That's perfectly understandable. And if most of the local fans think that way, I'm cool with that. Any new or veteran-traded player has to prove themselves as the new kid on the block. That's baseball, and what it is, it is. I'm just for giving a player a chance before he's labeled a loser and booed by the fickle.

I hope both Trot and J.D. finish with solid seasons, and I think both of them have some good ball left in them. That's basically it, so I'll turn off my bitch switch, now. :)

Added note of irony: That's pretty much the way STL fans thought of Edmonds when he first came to the Cards. He had a reputation as a prima dona and he'd get hurt what appeared too easily. But then he started stepping up in the clutch, and the fans took him in.

Most of it has to do with the money also..The Sox forked over a lot of $$$ for Drew compared to what they could have signed Trot for. Trot also spent a good amount of time on the DL the last couple seasons. So he had the injury issues as well..It's tough to replace a fan favorite, especially one that came up through the system..It's even tougher when you don't produce consistantly right off the bat..The fact that that Drew isn't exactly enamored with the media isn't helping him either. His post game interviews look more like interrogations. He's REALLLLL laid back..We're not used to that here,lol..Of course,if he goes .330 with 35 HR's and 100 RBI's for the season,we'll be "Trot who??":D
