i know, but over saturation of 1-2 teams is bad for everyone, as everyone only gets to see those two teams and nothing else.

and congrats to the chokers of the nl and bud, denying home field since 1999.

No argument from me, as a baseball fan I rather see teams that usually don't get Sunday night baseball worked into the rotation. You usually see the following teams on Sunday night: Yanks, Sox, Mets, Braves (Not always playing each other of course.)

Err 1996 my dear. You know when the Yankees beat your Braves in the WS? :p

Leeland is a horrible manager, where was Rivera to close out the game.;) At least the Yankees will get home field.:D

Next years All Star game will be banging. Can't wait to see Home Run Derby in Ruth's house.

So you didn't like how they were running that swimming dog stunt while the first inside-the-park home run in All Star Game history was happening?
I didn't see the game. Tell me they didn't do that. (Though I'm afraid I know the answer)

So can they make sure that everything works before they get ready for the singing of "God Bless America". It was like 3 minutes of dead air.

That's what happens when you have the fans vote.

He didn't get voted in by the fans. He was close but not quite. The fans only vote on the starters, it was the players who decide the reserves. Manny is a popular player no matter what, hopefully he gets his slugging power up and start bashing in the 2nd half.

Oh yes. Finally, they cut away from the swimming dog when they realized that something interesting was happening on the field. I changed channels and watched a John Wayne movie for the balance of the evening. And they complain that the All Star Game is attracting fewer viewers every year. It must be because they don't show enough dog stunts during the game.

fox's horrendous coverage of all star games and the playoffs make me not want to watch. and it sounds like it's getting worse. give us the game, not celebrities sitting pretty, or some stupid stunt, the game is the main attraction, and fox seems to forget that, and act as if the all star game is just a platform to promote everything else.

btw, i played ff12 for most of the night, that is until a scratched disc ruined it.

And Fox is a couple of cuts above ESPN (the destroyer of post-season baseball).

don't remind me. at least tbs has coverage this year, so hopefully they brought back quality into the coverage. make me at least love parts of the playoffs again instead of dreading it and wanting me to go back to boxscore watching.

people think i'm crazy when i say i don't watch playoff baseball. i don't watch because the coverage is horrid and i can't stand to watch horrid coverage.

So true. They really ned to figure out priorities. Listening to sports talk often, its great when the Sox are on ESPN or Fox on the weekend, and the morning crew bashes the announcers. Love them replaying some of the stupid things said. Always seem to point out the obvious during the game, they don't add anything to it just detract from it. With Fox and ESPN pretty much covering almost all sports guess its just a matter of time till people lose interest because of the telecast.

Yup, and ironically they think they need to "spice up" the broadcasts because viewers will otherwise find the games to be too dull. In reality, they are driving away the real fans of the game, the people who always want to watch because they love baseball. Only a handful of broadcasters still understand what the fans want from them: baseball, not blabbering, jabbering announcers. Even my wife, who I've converted to being a baseball fan only in the last few years, comments on this. It's gone beyond sad, it's becoming tragic. Who will stop these people from killing our game?

Yeah anytime I get the chance to watch the local broadcast, NESN, I do. Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo are great. Somethings I could deal without but no ones perfect, at least they know when to stop. I don't mind watching the Yes network as well. Both networks seem to have the right idea about the games. Let us watch them and chime in when needed. If it gets a little slow they throw in a little story but don't keep on it for 10 minutes.

NESN > *

Orsillo and Remy are great. Like you said, they let you watch the game but when it gets boring, Remy starts telling some hilarious story.

Yeah, I love NESN.

I have mlb.tv so I get to see/hear many local announcers. The thing that really drives me crazy is when local announcers refer to players by nicknames, which means I have to spend a minute or two trying to figure out who the heck they are talking about.

Wow -- Jerry Remy! That's a name I haven't heard in, oh, about 20 years. He was my second baseman on my 1980 fantasy baseball team back in the day, back when I loved all those high batting average guys who didn't take walks (Cecil Cooper to the white courtesy phone, please).

It occurs to me too that my decline in interest in sports in general is at least partially correlated to the precipitous decline in the quality of sports broadcasts (see also NFL, NBA, and college sports). I used to watch the World Series and playoffs every year no matter who was playing; now I only watch when the Giants are involved.

The local broadcasts are a lifesaver, though. The Giants' main team of Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper started out a bit ragged 10+ years ago, but they have really matured and grown into a great tandem. Very insightful into the finer points of the game and a good deal of irreverance and humor thrown in.

Im not gonna hold my breath for TBS's coverage of the playoffs. If it is anything like the Braves games then it won't be all that great. Hopefully they will hire some real announcers.

Did La Russa get the worst manager award yet or are they waiting for the season to end first.

The Yankees have decided to negotiate a contract extension with A-Rod.

I have a new respect for the Phillies after seeing that footage with the tarp in Denver. I think its cool that a visiting team will pitch in to help the grounds crew.

We should get A-Rod to come to Boston to play shortstop instead of Julio "I couldn't hit the ball if it was on a ****ing tee" Lugo.
