Barry not participating in the HR Derby in is home town is stupid. This is what the people of SF live for, and he lets down the fans AGAIN.

I'm not sure when people started being disappointed that Barry Bonds doesn't care about people other than himself. Not that he's the only athlete who's like that, but it's a little late to start expecting him to throw a bone to his own fans.

On the other hand, lots of sluggers have opted out of the home run derby for pretty good reasons: risk of injury, need for rest, lack of interest, worry that it will screw up their mechanics. Would it be nice for the Giants fans if he did it? Yes. Is he doing anything differently than dozens of All-Star players before him? No.

This is true, but I just know most of SF would like to see him do it. I understand he might hurt himself, but he could just get himself out if it didn't work out.

I think the fact that the All Star games decides home field advantage is cool. Gives it just a little bit more meaning.

I'm fine with it deciding homefield advantage, but if thats gonna be the case, then don't require one player from every team to fill the roster. Then you have players who are just there because of the rule.

If you're gonna require a player from every team than the game should remain exhibition only. I'd rather see Home field advantage decided by record, as it was before, or by which league has the better record in inter league play.

Ok, does the coverage ESPN is putting up seem really crude and crappy to anyone else?

It's like "Hey, lets go out and wing it"

Really annoying.

espn needs to stop yapping so much, or extend it's timeslot to 3 hours, since it's been running over for the past how many years...

Might have to be 4 hours. We gotta interview everybody and their mother you know.

Vlad Guerrero's 503-foot homer that was headed straight for the huge glove was also way tooooooooo long. ;)

That's not the only thing.... errr sorry wrong thread :p

I was bored with home run derby this year. The first round sucked, I don't like the "new rules" they started a few years ago either. I think I fell asleep during the second round.:p I usually like to watch the celebrity softball challenge but that was on so late that I slept through it.

As a "person of SF", I'd be more upset if Barry messed up his swing or tired himself out or injured himself in a meaningless HR exhibition. It's not like he's 25 anymore, and it's not like the Giants have any other legitimate power threats in their lineup.

Besides, I like seeing the younger guys that I don't get as much of a chance to watch. Alex Rios was pretty impressive.

Good All Star game so far, but I do hate national broadcasters, Joe Buck is a tool, but not as bad as espn games.

Joe Buck being a tool is the understatement of the century.

typical. why not just scrap this one counts and just say "al gets home field all the time". that way we know the nl is the inferior league.

We know they are. I'll be saying that about the AL when we go on a 10 game ASG losing streak.

Not that it matter anyway, an NL team one the WS last season.... not sure how still.

i personally think it's a yankees-red sox conspiracy. make the northeast teams better advantaged and ratings pour in.

Yanks/Red Sox get a lot of exposure due to their histories and rather extensive fan base. Of course MLB is going to want to showcase this to bring in more money. Money talk and Bull S*** walks. MLB is a business nothing more.

EDIT: Look at your Braves for example. 14 Straight Division Championship, multiple WS appearances and 1 ring. Yet, you can't even sell out a playoff game! What is wrong with this picture?

yeah, but they make it seem like if you don't care about those two, you hate baseball and your baseball loyalty comes down to those two.

You're not a fan of those teams! Blasphemy!

I see what you're saying, I'm not that blinded by MLB's tactics. As I said though, it's a business. I'm sure MLB would love to put say like Marlins and Pirates on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball, but it wouldn't make them any money. Sure, it would be fun to watch all the young talent but it wouldn't be of any interest. They wanna showcase the best (I'm not saying NYY/BOS is the best teams, I'm saying they are money makers).

Leyland should have left Papelbon in :p

Bases now loaded.

BRING IN OKI

edit:.... and the game is over. AL wins 5-4.

i know, but over saturation of 1-2 teams is bad for everyone, as everyone only gets to see those two teams and nothing else.

and congrats to the chokers of the nl and bud, denying home field since 1999.
