I'm about to start a double degree in media and communications/commerce at uni (=turning into a bum), and I'm planning to continue working as a cashier at a large supermarket chain. Its not all that glamorous, but they pay ok and are really flexible with hours. :)

Hmm.

I'm a consultant I guess.

My main gig right now is handling the logistics, color correcting and cataloging of images for a worldwide aerial photography project a business partner is doing for a big electronic cartographer. So bascially I sit in front of a monitor and play in Photoshop all day, yell at photographers and tattle on them when they eff up.

Second gig is writing content for a marine industry Web site and handling the color correction and databasing of the images for the site.

Third, I'm a freelance photographer. I sell my pics in a local deli, some stuff online, some advertising stuff and some product photography. I also do photo-journalism stuff for my fourth gig.

Fourth, I do freelance writing for a local monthly called "PropTalk." This month I did an article on a Chesapeake Bay icebreaker.

Fifth, I am trying to get into the virtual tour business like Cooknn.

I'm a whore, basically - I'll do anything if someone wants to pay me.

:D

Web designer/developer (CMA) @ michigan.gov

(and since an equal portion of my time is related to school, I guess "student" would be my job too :))

I'm a Senior Art Director for a less-than-prestigious ad agency here in Chicago. I also design movie posters, programs and magazine ads on a freelance basis. I've never lost a client after 8 years in the biz. :)

I am a freelance cook - mostly for the Food Network, cooking magazines, and recipe developement/tester for cookbooks.

I also give local cooking classes.

Most of the time, I am where I want to be most - at home raising my two children (ages 1 and 2).

My wife wants your job sooo badly. She has the kids part but not the cooking part. How did you get started? Did you go to CIA (not that CIA)?

I'm still a consultant for a software development company (I think I answered one of these threads a while ago). I've been around the world on the job, travel a lot, the pay is good... sometimes it does get tired, but most of the time I enjoy it.

I used to be a professional Sudoku puzzle solver, but now I just sweep the floors here at the asylum.

But when nobody is looking, I get on the Internet and pretend to be a husband, father, programmer, forum administrator, school technology leader, statistician, Rose Parade float decorator, photographer for a non-profit foundation, and computer-problem-solver for relatives, friends, and neighbors.

Oh wait, those are only my hobby jobs. My paying job is as a software designer, programmer team manager, webmaster, mailmaster, researcher, tech support specialist, technical writer, marketing consultant, and once in a rare while I actually get to write code.

Those paying jobs are very nice, but I hope the other one you still have and which probably makes your heart beat faster is sweeping floors at the asylum. You would have to be nuts to walk away from that.

I hope that the editors of the various sites you've listed read your submissions carefully and catch it when you make errors such as "Next jobs I want too take up." !!

I'm a little late in getting to this thread but hopefully in the meanwhile you will have had a look at the one in the Digital Photography forum addressing issues regarding becoming a stock photographer. To be blunt, you are a long way off from that at this point -- for any number of reasons.

Not sure about this Harvey Norman -- is that a local store in your area which sells Macs? -- but, yeah, I think that all of us who venture into our local Apple/Mac-related stores come out of there not only with whatever merchandise in hand we'd gone in there needing, but also with the satisfaction of having maybe turned someone else on to the gloriousness of using a Mac. At least I have.... That said, I am under NO illusions that this would make me an automatic shoo-in for being hired on there!

Whatever. In reality, since you're still just a minor child by most legal standards, which, if any of the items you listed could truly be considered "a job?" Earning some money here-and-there does not make it a "job." the way it is usually considered by most adults for whom a "job" represents earning a living.

You're not in a position right now to be working full or even part-time (ie, 20 hours or more, certainly not a living) per week because you're still earning credits for completing a high school diploma. That's fine, but just don't misrepresent yourself on these or other forums. You are not working and earning money to keep food in your mouth and shelter over your head. Yes, you are earning money in order to buy the latest and best technology in order to advance yourself, which is nice, but that is still perceived as different by most adults who are out there whose earned income is used directly to support themselves and a family.

That said, it's nice to see someone your age who is ambitious and who is willing to work for what he wants. I hope I am around 20 years from now, when maybe you will have made a significant mark on the world....

I didn't go to the CIA, I went to ICE in NYC.

I did my externship with them and was hired when I got out of school. It's a great job... the commute from PA to new york would be brutal though!

Funny you mention it, I have been working on my correct usage of words today (such as to, too, and two...).

I also received confirmation of my first Macguide pay cheque today, its around the $700 mark, I'm very happy, I put a good 20 hours into that Issue.

That's what editors are for

Have you seen his work? A lot of ambition, talent and some well placed connections and you never know how soon this guy could become a pro.

It's funny you are picking on Glenn for this being that this sounds like a great job for a student, especially one that knows about computers, and already convinced a few people to buy, and because retail is notoriously low paying but great product discounts it sounds like it would be a great fit for him.

Well, I make money here and there also. I freelance for magazines and a TV station and I certainly couldn't support my family on that income. I do consider it a job though. I put in the hours, I get the satisfaction of knowing I worked hard and earned my money and I would be insulted if someone told me I couldn't post my "job" because I don't earn a living.

Other students/teens have posted their "jobs" here and no one took issue with that.

Many people might find it interesting what Glenn does to earn spare money for technology. I didn't think this was a thread for only those that support their family. I wouldn't have posted and neither would a lot of others here.

By the tone of the rest of your response, this seems a little condescending. I could be wrong though.

I wouldn't pay you $700.00 for this sentence (from one of your pieces):

Imagine all the disappointed and angry people who are told new iPods are out, only days after they got there “brand new” ones for Christmas.

You're a nice guy, but you need to tune your ego down a few notches. People get tired of having your "I'm a writer" schtick thrown in the faces.

Just be cool and have fun. ;) We're all whores taking money for whatever we can. :D
