I test 911 phone calls for Voice Over IP phones, and I have a lot of downtime, so I do browse MR on the clock.

Is this a work from home job?

I am a student and I study International business and management in the Netherlands.

I am currently on my internship (as a marketing manager) in London.

I have a degree in zoology and work as a research assistant at Oregon State University. I work with a professor putting satellite tags on large whales so we can track them for months or years. In the field I am the photographer/video guy and in the lab I organize the photo library, edit videos, construct tags, work on our research boats, and other odd jobs.

It is a great job that involves travel all over the world (we were hunkered down on the French Riviera last fall waiting for weather to clear to tag fin whales in the Med.), but the pay sucks and living in a small town on the Oregon coast can get a bit boring.

My wife also says I am spoiled because they buy me all the toys I couldn't afford for myself. My big accomplishment last year was getting them to buy me a Powerbook and 23 inch Cinema display for photo work.

I am researcher. My field is game theory. Basically, I model behavior mathematically in an evolutionary setting and see what comes out of it.
Ooooh! Ooooh! (Oops, sorry, I was drooling on the floor, lemme get a towel and clean that up.)

What an interesting job, Dr.Gargoyle. Tell us more. Are you at a university? What models are you applying game theory to at the moment?

I took a class in game theory and it was a really fun class. It was surprising to see how closely related math-based puzzles based on "expected value" were related to real-world issues such as worldwide military conflicts. I also learned that some people gain the most satisfaction from winning, some from not losing, and some from having the least regret, and that those personalitiy differences affect how people play games and deal with tradeoffs.

you might regret that...lol
But ok, I will try to keep it very short.
Game Theory is just a way to model interactions between players, where the players doesn't necassarily have to be humans. These models has proven to be very useful in many diciplines: biology, law, computer science, dynamic control, sociology, economics, art of war... So after a while you get to some basic knowledge about all these diciplines.

I myself work at a university and spend my slightly too long days working on how conventions emerge through evolutionary games.

The fundamental idea behind evolutionary games is pretty simple: you have a population where all "agents" in the population in each period play a game. The agents are free to act as they please. You apply a "Darwinian dynamic", meaning that the agents with a more successful strategy are better represented in the population the next period. Now you just have to calculate what comes out of it, as time goes to infinity. It sounds pretty simple, but trust me, it can be a bit tricky. ;)

I publish a magazine for ex-pats who live in Spain. I work from home... sorry play from home! ;) so I can work the hours that I want and watch sport when I want and no one can tell me off! :D

i have a summer job at the IT department at a local chemical/silican waffer company. I wish it was longer than just a summer job, because i love it. but im not loving that i have to go to college after it.

I'm a photographer at a portrait studio. That is, until I find an art university that I want to go to, at which time I will continue my education to hopefully become a... photographer again (in a nicer place), or a graphic designer.

Ooh. Is that just in the Balearics or on the Peninsula too?

Well my title is Engineering Aide though mostly what I do is archive of drawings from the mechanical engineering group here from the late 80s to the late 90s before they had a digital archive set up. So scan, crop, deskew, verify, shred has been my life for the past two years as I also make my way through college.

Still an architectural drafter.... :(

Anyone out there in the southeastern US looking to hire any business majors. Graduated from Georgia Tech in May '05... Pretty Please.

IT consultant to creative-driven companies. IOW, I get to work with lots of Macs and creative people on more or less my own schedule. I had been a graphic designer, production artist, and art director for 10+ years, but also did a fair amount of software development and network design to support my art/design habits. None of my design skills go down the drain as I have to still train a lot of designers and build systems and networks around their workflows, so my dual background really helps out.

Still enjoying it quite a bit, but pondering how to best grow my practice, whether I should take on a lot more work and start hiring people, &c. I would miss the hands-on and face-to-face aspects of my work I went that way, however.

Project manager for a large health insurance comany. Hours are semi-flexible, though I end up working too much anyway. I get to travel and meet with customers every now and then which is fun.

I do visit MR as a stress releiver from time to time during the day, but probably should not. But similar to a few others in this thread, I have one of the larger caseloads of my team and always get my work done, so no one really bothers me...
