as long as we're making comments unrelated to the topic (;))... does anyone else find it confusing that the second generation iphone is called the iphone 3G, but with ipods, "3g" means 3rd generation? I mean, what are we going to call the third generation iphone?

A banana-saurus. Duh.

...The next day, my hip still ached - outside of hip a couple of inches below the joint itself...

I think you need to have your hip replaced. :)

Seriously, there are things even the most perfect running shoe wont be able to fix. How old are you, btw? Where I work almost all of my collegues at 30 or above now have serious pain problems when running. Including me. Annoying to say the least.

This time it really was the shoe screwing with my mechanics somehow since I'd never had hip pain that early into a run before.

I am over 30 but it's only usually only when I take the mileage up a notch that my hip aches until it gets used to the extra distance. I can usually go up to 2 hours without it aching. And even when it does, an extra few rounds of hip flexor stretches etc generally clears it up.

Course, after this weekend, I never plan on running for more than 2 hours again so it's probably a moot point! :p

There could be marathons in your future!

I doubt it! :D

I ran my race today in about 2:11 or thereabouts. Forgot to click the iPod off until I'd stupidly walked for a while and got my chip removed at which point it was at 2:14. We'll see what that chip said.

Was a tough race since it was glorious sunshine and the ambient temperature was 24C so god knows what it was in the sun. Still, it's done. I have two blisters, that toenail finally fell off and my hips are going to kill me tomorrow... but hey, I have a medal! :D

Just curious what type of shoes everyone has in here? I need a new pair but have no clue what kind to get. Obviously I'm looking at Nike+ shoes for the Nike+ (which I don't currently have). I do sprints (intervals) 3 times a week and distance running twice a week. The distance running is anywhere from 2-5 miles (or more, depending on how motivated I am). I have normal feet and no injuries or anything that requires a special or particular type of shoe. Any recommendations (sorry if this is a derail, wasn't sure where to ask)?

Congratulations. It's a wonderful feeling to accomplish something like that, so enjoy it. You deserve it.

Many people will tell you to go to a running specialty store and let them outfit you with something appropriate. I've gone that route in the past, but recently had a podiatrist/sports medicine doc/former elite runner tell me that it really doesn't matter what type of shoes you wear as long as they fit properly and feel good.

If there's a running store in your town, it's not going to do any harm to go there and get their advice. I was amazed initially at the difference in different shoes and how right/wrong they felt when running when they were OK standing still. Now, I've got a better idea when standing still if they're going to work moving.

My current shoes are Adidas with a pouch for the Nike+ on the laces - doesn't seem to make it any less accurate (or more for that matter)

Hey guys I know this thread is considerable old, well 2 days I see >_>, anyways I am going to pick up a Nike+ and strap it to my shoes somehow this weekend.

Anyways i got a 3rd generation Nano from my brother, traded for the touch, and I was wondering if I have to look for a certain Nike+ model? I was looking on amazon, and I got a couple of different compatibilities.

Thanks. :p

I recommend using waterproof / medical tape strapping to a couple of rows of laces.

Nike+ is all the same. You're looking for the kit just under $30.

Yeah, you could go the medical tape route, but I'd pick up one of those marware velcro cases for like $6. That's what I have. It allows the nike+ to be used with any pair of sneakers, it's easy to take off or swap between pairs, and you can always put it in the same spot.
