Ok well on monday i ran garrett mtn and pr ed by 1 minute 35 and i got 23:24 , so for the first 1.5 miles i paced myself with another runner that I never met so I didnt know if he could beat me or not (he did but thats not hte point) but the the last 1/2 to 3/4 of the race was all uphill and it was terrible but I ran hard and I felt good.

alright! glad to hear you ran your best! just continue to train hard, and you will continue to improve! :)

A PR by a minute 35, wow! Great job. Keep training hard and you'll see those times continue to drop. ;)

Im sorta really mad right now, I just ran 5.15 miles (really six though) and even though I hit end workout it still got deleted! On my main Nike+ screen there is the grey bar showing 5 mi distance workout but it doesnt show up on my history. Is it going to get fixed next time i run or something because it better or i will be really mad.

did it get sent to nike+ though?

its nowhere! hopefully when i do another run tomorrow it gets put in.

oh, that sucks. hopefully it'll get uploaded somehow. i've been thru that though, a hundred times. i hate it when that happens.

btw, i got in over 40 miles today (or yesterday really). took me over 8 hours, but i made it somehow. (probably from watching the georgia game tonight  )

Back no longer aching and with just two weeks left to go, I went out for a long run today at the time I'll be doing the half; I'm not a morning runner so usually my runs are in the afternoon/evening.

With the route that I took, I ended up doing somewhere between 12.8 and 13.4 miles (Nike+ started off wildly generous at the start and became v stingy at the end - and it gave me 13.4). Google Maps gave the road part of it 6.8 miles but I also ran around the local park 6 times which adds somewhere between 6 and 6.6 miles since no-one seems to agree on the distance of the park carriageway.

Anyhow - got home 2hrs and 14 minutes later pushing myself up the final hill with gritted teeth. Tried munching jellybeans en route and think they did help a bit - my feet were more painful than my legs. I tried out some new insoles and while they helped cushion the balls of my feet, they ended up rubbing at my arch. I don't have a blister but it's not far off one. Wondering whether to chop the insoles in half and just use the front half? Any thoughts?

wow you guys are too inspirations, 13 miles i barely did 6 I think im gonna go run today and hopefully nike will pick up my miles and not lose it.

Well I ran another 5 miles today but it doesnt show up in my history or personal best but it does show up in my workout totals so when I sync it, it shows up on iTunes but it doesnt go to Nike+, it still says I have 19 workouts when I really have 20. anyway to fix it?

you could manually create the run and upload it to your ipod. You didn't hear that from me, though.

Went out to do 12 or so yesterday and ended up running 18, my longest run since Boston in April. It took me a long time to be able to do 18 mile runs comfortably when I was training for Boston, but it actually felt surprisingly easy yesterday (despite not having done more than 12 in months!). :)

But how does it feel today? ;)

I don't usually end up with muscle soreness but can feel the leg fatigue and a little stiffness today with the extra couple of miles added in. But now I know I can do it so on the day itself I should be fine.

It can be pretty inspiring to look back at how far you've come - figuratively rather than literally. A little like how tough you found it to get to 18 miles originally, I was thinking while out yesterday about how much easier some stuff feels. The first time I ran around one of the parks I went to yesterday, it was as part of a 4 mile run and OMG, it was tough. I think I stopped partway up one of the later gradients and walked for a bit since I couldn't have run for toffee. Now 4 miles seems like a walk in the park :p

I've got to the point where 10-11 miles isn't too much of an ask. It's just that final 2-3 that I need to crack - although since I don't plan on running more than about 10k again in future, perhaps not! :p

nice! good job man. glad you're feeling better, and are running like you used to (or at least getting closer). hope you continue to feel well

haha, whatever works for ya. ;)

I am struggling to increase my 5k and 10k times. I seem to be stuck right around 24 min and 53 min respectively. Any ideas? I know its a vague question, should I try running shorter routes a lot harder? My typical run distance is 6-8 miles.

you could try running shorter distances faster. there's no doubt that you'll need to train faster to race faster, but don't kill yourself.

you also may want to do some interval workouts

thanks, i'm getting there. but since i'm done with school, and still haven't found a job yet (it's tough these days), i've had more time to run and stuff

Running well is a lot tougher after college, at least in my experience. I can't motivate myself to train like I used to unless I have a goal. And now I have very little time to train, with my new job. Basically I'm down to runs of no more than about 45 minutes during the week plus whatever I feel like on the weekends.

Not that I'm complaing - as you say, this is a tough time to find a job at all, so best of luck!

as twood said, try to work in some speed work. You can start with things like fartleks (bursts of speed for anything from 30 sec to several minutes, mixed in to your regular runs) and tempo runs (15 minutes or more of sustained, faster running - should feel like an effort, but not as much as a race). From there you can work in some hill repeats and even timed intervals on the track (but in my experience, those can be really hard to do alone).

yes, running after college is tough. i don't 'have to' run if i don't feel like it.

thanks, times are tough with the job search.

Hey GimmeSlack,

This question is totally unrelated to this topic, but i saw your post about the ipod classic connectivity with your 5900ib and i was wondering, does the classic charge while it's connected the to the head unit? I have the 5900ib and am thinking about adding that classic. Thanks in advance.

Yes the iPod charges when connected to the 5900ib. I've tried a 2g nano, a 1G iTouch, a 3G iPhone and my 80gb Classic and all have worked identically with the head unit and iPod connector. Though I must say that the 3 line screen makes searching through your music a lesson in patience (get used to spinning that knob a lot). But ultimately its better than dealing with CD's or the radio. I say go for it.

as long as we're making comments unrelated to the topic (;))... does anyone else find it confusing that the second generation iphone is called the iphone 3G, but with ipods, "3g" means 3rd generation? I mean, what are we going to call the third generation iphone?
