you are not telling me that people out there are still twittering ?

I thought that had come and gone just like a fad.

Please stop using Flash on the Homepage of this website.

It really isn't that hard.

It has.

The only people who continue to use it are the type who's personality it was designed for:

Lonely, boring, irritating people.

not hipsters like you!

You seem like a with-it guy. Do you have a newsletter or something I could subscribe to?

I took a look at twitter a few months ago. I decided not to use it.

All this social networking stuff leaves little time for work and real play.

I set up facebook but I prefer to think of it as a place to check out from time to time rather than a daily ritual.

I think the twitter would be good for traveling. People at home could check out what you are up to. Also if you are working in a dangerous place, people can check in on you to make sure you are Ok. But otherwise I don't care if people are just discovering their melons aren't ripe when they pinch them or that they stepped in a puddle and got their socks wet.

I am happy because the Twitter iPad App is free. I mean to say everyone like to get free apps and a free app like this is nice. I will surely download it later.

Agree on work and real play. "Real life" really is what we are talking about. People who twit leave in an illusion. The very concept of following is of immense stupidity. Follow me that I follow you ahahah. They need to get real.

Face book, same thing really.

guys, it's reaching levels of retardation that are worrysome for real. Good news is, it really looks like it's a dying fad :)

Explain to me how this is different than any of the other multiple window or desktop environments that were shot down? Oh, it only opens browser windows? Ok then, why is it's browser functionally superior to the built in safari tabbing?

Ugh, I STILL don't want to use Twitter.

I love how every Twitter article brings out the "Twitter Sucks" crowd. What makes me laugh is that they always say some variation of "I don't care what you had for breakfast."

Yeah, I don't either. I've used Twitter to get freelance work multiple times. I just did as photo shoot of a charity fashion show last week that I found on Twitter. It has even given me the opportunity to give a presentation on my work to other media professionals at a small networking conference downtown. (Another time I was offered free tickets to a concert because someone couldn't use them at the last minute!)

So I'm finding cool opportunities out in the real world all the time using Twitter. Meanwhile, you all are complaining on a computer-enthusiast message board about how other people have no life.

Keep telling yourself that...

I agree 100%. I don't use it to post where I am or what I'm doing specifically and I don't follow people that tweet about their lunch. What I do use it for is networking with fellow photographers, building connections that can only help down the road. Twitter is a great tool if you use it as such, rather than following 13 year olds and how they hate math class. It's easy to bash something if you are ignorant about it.

New version CRASHES on iPod touch whenever a tweet is selected. Hoping I can revert back before any more damage is done. Apparently, this app is NOT universal, as advertised.

Same here on iPhone, they need to test these apps better. How can we report this to the developers?

With facebook I can see just having a page for people to find you if they lose contact. And once in a while you might want to look at pictures posted by people you haven't seen in a while. But this daily yapping away on the keyboard over farmville or some other game is pointless. I guess if you had access to the game data it would be more interesting to develop psychological profiles of people. But sadly that isn't an option.

The other silly use of twitter is for people who want to follow the posts of someone hired to tweet for a famous person. There are many people wanting to be the first to wish Britney Spears well when she stubs her toe. Now if she would just tweet/twit (??) that she can't really sing without digital aids...

I wouldn't say it sucks. It has its uses. But I haven't needed twitter myself. I do think it is a waste of time to be on such sites for hours a day reading each others trivial comments.

Now as to your last paragraph, that is an easy rebuttal you make. Too easy. Some of us mocking the 3 hour a day twitter crowd are actually having real dialog; something you do not find typically on twitter. And for myself, I do not plan to spend that much time here. So I would say it is a weak argument to suggest anyone with a bad word about twitter on this board is being hypocritical.

OK, so based on the glowing review, I downloaded it and tried it out.

I am so confused.

It will take me a while to learn the interface (as compared to Twitteriffic, which is what I was using before) -- despite their remarkable initial similarity, it's taking me a while to figure out where to swipe to do what.

Someone already asked how to close a window. I had the same question.

I tapped on some profile images and got the profile info page with a button to Unfollow. Good. Then I tapped on another profile image -- of a user I actually wanted to Unfollow because they were being particularly spammy that day -- and instead it brought up a browser pane to open the link contained in the tweet. That's not what I wanted...

Is it intentional that the little "light bulb" indicating you have new directed tweets and PM's is half cut off?

I only had a short time to get first impressions but in that time I managed to get lost and frustrated. I'll have another look later...

The UI is really beautiful no doubt but I am not convinced that it really improves over a more conventional setup like Twitterific's on the iPad. Some of it can be confusing until you learn the setup.

I still can't figure out how to delete things such as lists etc. which usually are a swipe in any other app but that doesn't work here. How do you delete lists, saved searches etc.? Anyone...

Strangely enough. I delete twitter and re-added this new version on my iPhone 4. I was prompted to allow push notifications. So far I don't see anything push though. Is it coming?

Checked out the updated app. but didn't really care for it. When I flick a tweet that I've clicked on back to the right, sometimes it doesn't completely disappear...half of it remains on the screen, overlaying my timeline. Also the blue light on Timeline indicating new tweets are available appears to me to be cut off a bit. Both may be user error that could be resolved by playing with it more, but I'll stick with Osfoora HD.

So I would say it is a weak argument to suggest anyone with a bad word about twitter on this board is being hypocritical.

I don't think it's weak. I never said anything about time. I don't care how much time people spend anywhere. I'm talking about the location.

What's the difference between saying "I don't like iTunes 10" on Twitter and saying "I don't like iTunes 10" on Macrumors?

I don't see much difference. It's just a different audience, that's all. I express a lot of thoughts on Macrumors. I also express thoughts on Twitter. I think it's funny that people think those same thoughts have value here but are a waste of time when they're on a different URL. It's a silly way of looking at it.

Do you want him to post links to the newsletter on twitter?

Links? It's a fanzine, on paper. Need to send him a SASE.

Twitter made me realize no one in the world cares what I have to say, and that I should probably pay more attention to my family.

I wanted an iPad before watching that video…and now I'm going to sell things tomorrow to get an iPad…because for that app alone and iOS4 on the iPad…it's worth it.

…until they do an iPad refresh on the hardware, grr, keep waiting

Yeah I'm holding off, just seems like the next ipad is going to be a pretty drastic update. At the very least they'll probably have 32gb for the same price of current 16gb. Also maybe by the time the next one comes out more of the apps I have on iphone will have ipad optimized versions (OMG ANGRY BIRDS HD!! although I've heard current version looks fine for the most part)

Yep. Someone in a thread about Facebook said that the experience is entirely related to who your friends are -- "if you have a crappy Facebook experience, it's because you've got crappy friends"!

Same thing applies here. People who constantly tweet their current location or, worse, play that stupid FourSquare game, are at risk of being unfollowed by me (and I have indeed unfollowed a few people who insist on doing that).

Bad Tweet: "I'm shopping at the mall!"

Better Tweet: "I'm at the mall - Apple store is giving away free T-shirts between 3-5pm!"
