I got the Defender for my children's nanny. She is on our family plan, and having the iphone helps her keep in touch with us and navigate around town. She also considers it a nice fringe benefit. The battery on her 4s was cooked, so she got an upgrade along with the rest of the family. With the Defender, I don't think twice about my kids bouncing that phone out of a stroller. Her 4s looks brand new after always being in a Defender. That case is bullet proof.

Personally, I am liking my Spigen Neo Hybrid Metal (space grey). It fits and looks great on the 6.

This phone is great. I picked up my 5 to wipe it before selling, and couldn't ever imagine going back to that screen!

Lovely aren't they? :D

Clearly you're not the target audience for the case but the case does indeed sell to people who need it. People in construction or any other field where they need a phone but they're moving around a lot and just risking smashing their phone often use these cases. I've seen it multiple times. They're bulky because they have to provide all around protection. Just because you think they're ugly (as I do too) doesn't mean they're terrible for everyone. They serve a purpose and serve it well.

I would love not to use an Otterbox, but I actually like the extra bulk as the iPhone is just way too thin to use comfortably. What I would like though is a case that meets the following requirements:

1. Doesn't cover too much of the front bezels (makes swiping gestures easier)
2. Doesn't have flappy port covers (this wouldn't bother me if the iPhone supported wireless charging)
3. Has a fully rubber back like the Otterbox Defender
4. Slightly less bulky than the Otterbox Defender

I don't like the other Otterbox models as the hard plastic casing is too slippery. The Speck Candyshell Grip comes close to meeting these requirements, but damn is that ugly.

Have you looked at Spigen Slim Armor or Tough Armor? They still seem protective but a lot less bulky than the OB Defender, I think they look nice, and it has a lip but nowhere near the size of the Defender making it much easier to swipe. No port covers (which could be good or bad). I don't think any of them have a fully rubber back though, most of the ones I've seen have a hard plastic plate covering the middle 80% of the back of the phone.

I picked up the Tough Armor for my 6+ (that I still don't have) and I think I'm going to be pretty happy with it.

You might also want to look at the High Rise (might be Hi Rise) dock. It works with just about any case. I've never had one before but I have one coming from Amazon.

I bought the commuter case today in black on black. It adds just enough bulk to the 6. Frankly, the phone is too thin to begin with, so I'm pleased with this case. I don't think it's ugly. I wish Otterbox made a simple silicone skin like the one on the 4. I loved that case!!

Can you post a pic? I'm waiting for the Commuter Wallet. I have NEVER used a case on my iPhone before, but want to try it out for the convenience.

There are other slimmer cases you can choose from like Specks, Spigen Slim case, Case-Mate slim case. For otterbox, the best one for me is the Commuter series

I think otterbox dropped the ball on the 6/+ case. They CAN make it thinner but won't. The htc one m8 is not too much smaller than 6\+ yet their defender case is super thin yet fully protective. iphone cases are just blocky

The Symmetry looks decent. I'd rather have decent protection than keep it naked since I spent over $400 on the phone. I'm done with Spigen. I ordered the case through Amazon two weeks ago and the delivery estimate had the 23rd as the latest for delivery and still haven't received it, no tracking number from Spigen or anything.

I can agree with you and I'm ready to return my defender 4.7" but with bend-gate a possibility the defender will surely prevent any bending. I am having a hard time pulling the trigger on the Pelican voyager because of the gap by the volume buttons. Love the port protectors on that case but the Protector looks good too...... decisions, decisions...

I've heard that the Otterboxes dont even fit that well. I'm just gonna be sticking with my OctoArmor case. It fits pretty well, and I have no complaints about it. I am just loving this new phone...

Spend half my time at construction sites otterbox is the way to go. Hoping the defender and screen saver is available when my 6+ arrives.

/\ This.

I manage cell phones for our construction company. I only use Otterbox Defenders. It's the only case that saves the phone. No, no one likes the bulk or look, but our owner also like not having to replace broken or destroyed phones.

It won't prevent it 100% if you sit on it, but it will help. the case is still somewhat flexible.

I've got an Apple leather case on my 6 now...and I just got an Otterbox Commuter dropped on my desk by FedEx that I had ordered from Amazon, but forgot about it (duh...). I'll put it on tonight and see which I like better. No secret the Otterbox is better protection, but the Apple case looks more pro.

Ok be honest..who going to use those fugly Otterbox cases on their iPhone 6 a...

Well I kept my 5 in a defender case and it took falls like a bouncing champ. The moment I switched to a thin fit case and dropped it, the screen shattered...

I'm going to shop around for some kind of middle ground. Otter boxes are so effective and are just as ugly

I love iPhones, but some of these apple fan's are waaaayyy too much into their image instead of functionality.

I've only had the 4s with the Otterbox. I am getting it for my new 6, but I can't find a Sprint store that has the black external piece in stock. I am a hippie at heart and don't really care what anything looks like as long as it is functions well in the ways I want. After 2 years of rugged use, the 4s I turned in this morning looked brand new. I guess the main reason I am getting another one is for the ease of mind. I've seen too many phones break in ****** cases from falls. I don't want mine to break while I am mountain biking, snowboarding, running around with a headful, or tossing it around. I don't really like to think too much about how I handle my phone or where I place it, so the Otterbox is good for me! Who cares what it looks like, its a god damn phone, not a painting on your wall!

I agree that Otterbox cases are painfully ugly but at least they serve a purpose in that they offer top-notch drop protection. They're so thick and obtrusive that their target demographic is obviously defined...it's for people who know their iPhone stands no chance unless they stick it in bullet-proof armour.

IMO, Spigen cases are almost just as ugly, doesn't offer as much protection, and seem to be even more hyped-up than Otterbox. I'm quite surprised at the amount of love Spigen receives on this board, their cases are extremely tacky.

I'd rather make sure my phone works than looks nice to other people.

Not sure if I'm going to go with a Defender this time, but definitely looking at it.

Already had and returned the defender for my IP6. The biggest issue is the buttons, especially the sleep/wake, are VERY, VERY hard to press. Someone else mentioned the film over the touch ID area left a residue on his home button - I didn't experience that.

I agree that Otterboxes are large and bulky; however, some people need large and bulky because they are protective. I had a Defender on my 4 and a Commuter on my 5 but probably won't be putting one on my 6 Plus. Not because I don't still like the case and see its usefulness but because it isn't out yet and I already bought another case.
