I just wonder why anyone would want to MMS over just sending a picture email

You're out somewhere and you want to show something to someone. They aren't at home and don't have an email capable phone. I can't understand why anybody wouldn't want the OPTION. Happens hundreds of thousands of times a day. Obviously people want it.

"Smartphone users need to get over their "my level or nothing" complex."

It's not so much that (for me). I just know my usage and my friends capabilities. There's nothing I would need to send via MMS that I couldn't send via email. They either have a phone which gets email, are at their desk when I send it OR... (and I know this is shear crazy talk) it can WAIT until they get home. Nothing is so urgent photo/video wise that it MUST get to them immediately.

Ugh. This response is slightly frustrating to me. I wish it wasn't used.

Why? Because this is the point of this technology. It's the point of MMS. That's why it was implemented in the first place. People want it for that exact reason.

You can wait. We get it. Others like you are the same. On the other hand, there's millions of people with older, outdated phones that don't have to wait and we want to have the same privilage with our revolutionary iPhones.

That is you. There are obviously plenty of people that feel differently. If the option is there you don't have to use it. If its not there then nobody gets to use it. Some people don't text at all. They don't complain that they have the option to if they want.

Are we somehow missing the fact that I very distinctly indicated I was speaking for me and me only? LOL

I understand what YOU are saying. I am saying that (again) for me - it's no big deal.

And I agree - older phones have this technology and it should be supported. But MMS on an evolutionary scale of technology is about 2001-2002. Which in technology terms is ANCIENT lol. Still relevant obviously - but I wonder how long it will be before the widespread adoption of phones (smart or otherwise) that just have unlimited data/email in a push environment where txt and mms are completely, for a lack of better term, useless.

Then again - it's only recent that cable killed broadcast television (not programming - I'm referring to digital replacing over-the-air signals)

MMS feature just escapes me. I realize that there is a convience factor. But I send pictures via email to my cell all the time. So you can do MMS now somewhat. There is no hacking involved. This is my 2 cents.

Push email is too "heavy-duty" for the types of conversations that take place over txt/mms, and the current email UI is a bit cumbersome (for txt/mms-style chat). The future's a bit cloudy :D , but my guess is that IM or something like twitter -- and not email -- will eventually replace txt/mms on smartphones.

I'm kind of tired of the excuses. Who cares if email makes more sense? There are a lot of people who use MMS. Not email. MMS. Further, it's ancient technology. That it wasn't included in the 2G shows that Apple was only interested in Apple's agenda, not those of it's users and the cellphone world in general. Finally, look at all the lame reasons why there was no cut/copy/paste until the 3.0 system. Apple now runs a TV commercial that specifically points out cut/copy/paste as a selling feature. The apologists were wrong, Apple was simply late to the game. And so it goes with MMS. Technically AT&T can be blamed but we all know if Apple had done MMS with the 2G and applied pressure, we'd have been bored with it a year ago.

Your first post says different:
and I'll add that I STILL don't see what all the hoopla is about MMS anyway. If I want to send a picture - I attach it to email. Nothing is that important (photo or video wise) that necessitates me having to get it to a person immediately (and in low quality) vs them getting it when they a) are at their home computer or b) get it on their smart phone
But then again - perhaps I'm not the demographic for MMS. I have a 200 text plan a month and I really only text maybe 5-6 people and not that often- again because most people I know have quick access to email

Basically your making a blanket statement that every one should be like you and have a smartphone. I had mms on my razor but not on my iPhone..... Something is wrong with that. Of course If someone should send me an mms I of course have to go to the stupid web page that takes forever to load if it does at all.

No.. I'm not

I think you'll find I was very specific to MY situation - and not making a blanket statement about anyone else.

El oh el

Another mms thread. I love these threads because it's not lie bitching to us is going to get mms here any faster. If your that downtrodden about not having your precious mms, start a blog and people who actually care can read all about your miserable life without mms. It will be here when it's here, other than that complain to AT&T not a bunch of people on the Internet who can't control the situation.

Well, since you don't care, why did you even open the thread? And then you spent a few minutes typing up your rant to tell us how much you don't care? Pretty weird, if you ask me. When I don't care about something, I ignore it, but that's just me.

Get off your pedestal, you aren't the MR God, you realize that, right?

I have no idea what pedestal you are talking about. If anything, the poster seemed to be on a pedestal. And why you made the reference to being the MR God is beyond me. I've seen the MR Gods on here, and I'm definitely not worthy to be in the same room with them. ;)

Let me clue you in OP, go into mail and attach a picture. Send it to (cell phone number)@mms.att.net There you go sent the person a picture through mms so it doesnt charge them data or anything. Then they can send you one back with the address you sent it through. MMS issue solved. Ive been using this method since I got my iphone and with push my mms comes very fast because i have push.

where is tethering?
where is the idisk app?

and when do i get my keychain items on my iphone? i have 200 passwords in there by now and i need access to them once in a while.

anyway, most of these should be there by end of summer/early fall.:)

Actually he is. He was voted in last night. Didn't you get the memo?

Guess I missed it, my bad! I just can't stand people who use the "Well, why did you open up the thread?" line (especially when acting with a "better than you" mentality) when trying to talk to people. In case you haven't noticed, that line can be used in reply to 95% of the posts on here

But I'm done, everyone else have a good day!!

Why the hell doesn't my iPhone make coffee yet. I can't believe !@#$% Apple and their lame-brain developers. How f'n difficult would it be to add this function?!

And I hate this argument. I don't keep track of what service every one of my friends uses. Who does that?

And if I'm in the middle of a text conversation with someone, having to switch to e-mail, and then tell them to check their e-mail (which they may or may not be able to do immediately) is far inferior to continuing the conversation in the original medium, which is SMS/MMS. What is so hard to understand about wanting to be able to send a simple picture or media file to someone--anyone--with a cell phone?

And there are plenty of people in my life who, while they have e-mail, only check it for work reasons or every few weeks. They're mainly the older people in my life who do have MMS-capable cell phones, and would appreciate a quick picture or video from me.

Regardless of whether you (general you) would use it, there are plenty of others who would. Obviously, it wasn't a deal-breaker for me, since I got the iPhone with no promise of MMS, but now that Apple got off its high horse and it's available everywhere but the US, it's a bit frustrating waiting for AT&T to get their act together.

That said, it's nowhere near "late summer," so...
