And I hate this argument. I don't keep track of what service every one of my friends uses. Who does that?

And if I'm in the middle of a text conversation with someone, having to switch to e-mail, and then tell them to check their e-mail (which they may or may not be able to do immediately) is far inferior to continuing the conversation in the original medium, which is SMS/MMS. What is so hard to understand about wanting to be able to send a simple picture or media file to someone--anyone--with a cell phone?

And there are plenty of people in my life who, while they have e-mail, only check it for work reasons or every few weeks. They're mainly the older people in my life who do have MMS-capable cell phones, and would appreciate a quick picture or video from me.

Regardless of whether you (general you) would use it, there are plenty of others who would. Obviously, it wasn't a deal-breaker for me, since I got the iPhone with no promise of MMS, but now that Apple got off its high horse and it's available everywhere but the US, it's a bit frustrating waiting for AT&T to get their act together.

That said, it's nowhere near "late summer," so...

Hey I'm not saying that is the most efficient or convenient way of doing it. But, if you must send a picture to someone that gives you an option. Also I only need to remember t-mo and att because that's what my friends use so not to difficult. I was just giving an helpful suggestion to OP to help ease his frustrations with waiting. We are all waiting and know its late summer so just deal with it for the time being and when we finally get the ability it will be easy, convenient, and hopefully error less. :)

AT&T is scared of the million+ iphone subscribers Bandwith usage. They are underpowered trying to provide the best "3g" experience. which is crap. AT&T sucks but atleast i got an iphone rather have no iphone and waiting on mms then no iphone and have mms.

Guess I missed it, my bad! I just can't stand people who use the "Well, why did you open up the thread?" line (especially when acting with a "better than you" mentality) when trying to talk to people. In case you haven't noticed, that line can be used in reply to 95% of the posts on here

But I'm done, everyone else have a good day!!

I just can't stand people who have to say "But I'm done". Can't you just leave a thread instead of seeking attention?

And now I have a "better than you" mentality????? Please clue me in to what I wrote that gave you that impression.

Funny, all I had to do to come to that conclusion is check your recent message history. Nothing in there but cuts on people and incorrect information, but thumbs up to you!

As for dgd, you're just as annoying. I'm just not going to get into it with you, too easy.

Terribly sorry to get back on topic, but I agree that it's about time we in the states got MMS. It would be nice to not have to rely on the email "app" to view pictures that people send us, but all we can do is wait, unfortunately :(

Well, again, not sure how you'd come to those conclusions either, but I took a gander at your latest threads, and all I see are rants (and your own cuts) and even an immature !!!!one111eleven!111. Clearly, you are a troll.

Edited: Went even further in your posts and I see all your rants about losing your Hottest Girls app capability. What are you 15?

You must be a network engineer or systems analysist for AT&T right? Because clearly you know what will and won't affect its network

MMS will come. You'll feverishly send everyone in your contacts a completely disjointed, meaningless picture. After that week is over you may be good for one picture per week. I think your contacts will survive til then?

I definitly look forward to MMS on the iPhone. But i am not loosing any sleep for when its coming. It will be a useful feature that my friends and i will get fairly regular use out of, but between facebook, twitter, and email i am not missing all that many pictures and video updates from my mates

now.. What I would like is the ability to search spotlight on iphone and from there start a google search. Dreaming.. only dreaming.

For those who argue that they don't know what service their friends are on - and those others who say that email isn't an answer because not everyone has email access on their phone and on a regular basis.

Let me pose this question. And I'm just posing the question.

Isn't it also presumptuous to think that everyone has a text plan and/or wants it to be used that way?

Meaning - I don't know if my friends have a texting plan or if they do - how many texts they get.

So if they don't have a plan or have a very limited plan - every time I text them they're getting charged. It's like calling collect, no? But without the ability for the other person (unless they know to and have it blocked) to reject the message and NOT be charged.

In other words - people might not have smart phones to get an emailed picture - but it's just as likely that they don't have a messaging plan either.

You can argue that at least people can still get it and/or you know everyone you text has a plan. But then I refer you to my post where I said I know my "audience" as well.

I know a LOT of older people who don't add message plans and barely know (other than hearing it in conversation) what texts even are. And again - I think it's slightly rude to send them anything that's going to cost them more money.

Just my thoughts

Soon. Very soon. :)
If by soon you mean mid September than yes it will be soon. As i said in 2 other threads there were reports that AT&T had pushed back the MMS launch to Mid to end of September but a rep denied that as well as the $50-$55 price tag for tether. But as many of you know in this industry denying it left and right like they did, is basically confirming it to be true. So in all honesty, don't expect it to be any time in July or August...

Mid-end of Sept is still late summer. Summer ends (technically) on the 21st..

No one's even talked about the other "rumor" going around (this site is for rumors, so I guess that means it's okay) that we're going to get MMS when they release OS 3.1. I don't buy into that rumor FYI. I think it has nothing to do with AT&T, but maybe I'm wrong and Apple and AT&T are actually working together this time. To me, I don't think so.

I'm prepared to get flamed for this by other users but...You know that, I know that, but a hell of a lot of people where don't seem to realize that. They're ready grab the torches and pitchforks and bang on AT&Ts door b/c "ZOMG ITS MID-SUMMER AND THEY DIDN'T GIVE US MMS YET" . If any attention was paid at all, it was said later this summer or late summer so by my count...they still have 2 months to deliver on that. They will deliver on it when its ready. So calm down and be patient.

heres a link to the story if anyone is interested, this has been covered by wired as well.

OP is right. ATT dropped the ball on this and so did Apple. MMS is a feature every smartphone made in the last few years has yet iPhone users are locked out of it n(among other things). No excuse.

I'll bite.

There are people that I know don't text, or don't have a text plan, and so I don't text them. There are people who I know have a limited text plan, so I only text them in response to one of theirs. That's a different animal than knowing what service they use, which can change at any time. *shrug* My friends tell me those things, and if I'm becoming friends with someone, I'll ask if they text. Or, if I send a text, they'll tell me they'd rather chat or e-mail. Since I chat very rarely, we'll go with e-mail. Neither one of us is offended. And since I keep text convos in my phone, it's easy to job my memory as to who does and doesn't. If I go to text someone who doesn't text, I won't see their name on the list of threads.

And as for e-mail vs. texting, I've found no correlation. That's my personal experience. I have a couple of friends my age and younger who e-mail constantly but don't text, and I have a 70+ year old relative who texts but doesn't e-mail, and there are numerous in between.

All that is easier for me to keep track of then what company they're with.

I just wonder why anyone would want to MMS over just sending a picture email

Because you can reply directly to the phone.

For people who text frequently, it's much easier to send your friends a MMS message than an email to their phone. Most people don't understand why it isn't coming from your phone number.

Essentially, because phones text and computers email. There's no need to email a photo from a phone to a phone when MMS is there for exactly that purpose.

Well, since you don't care, why did you even open the thread? And then you spent a few minutes typing up your rant to tell us how much you don't care? Pretty weird, if you ask me. When I don't care about something, I ignore it, but that's just me.

Thanks for your opinion. It means a lot to me. Next time I don't Care about something I'll think back to this thread and how you enlightened me. Youre a true American hero.

Well, thanks for thinking of me as a true American hero, but I don't think I can be thought of that way for anything I've done here on MR. Perhaps you are thinking of my veteran status or what I do to protect the public health and safety as a civil servant?

Anyway, I'm pretty sure you were being sarcastic with your remarks, which makes me think I must have upset you in some way. If so, please accept my sincerest apology. FYI, I wouldn't have even posted a response to your earlier missive, had you just been like most and just wrote something short and simple like "you people are nuts, you'll get MMS when you get it!" I totally agree with that kind of thinking. However, we were discussing (which is what you do here...discuss) why we think MMS is important, which had digressed from the OP somewhat. Anyway, you decided to write this long paragraph, and I just thought that was kind of ridiculous, seeing as you "don't care!" That's all.

So you'd rather have this rushed out and done wrong, and complain about having no bandwidth for it or a stable network to do it on just so you can have a 'feature' that everyone else has. Without the network to support it, your 'feature' is crippled anyway. So why not let ATT get it done right so you can have your 'feature' working without any problems?

Please re-read my post in this thread (#2) and you will see how asinine you sound.

BL.

Yup, have them RUSH out the technology that's been around for 10 years. the technology that's been on every one of their phones forever, and whose network is handling MILLIONS of RIGHT NOW.

Sure, the BANDWIDTH of tiny photos will surely swamp their network.

talk about asinine.

I want MMS so I CAN SEE THE MMS SENT TO ME. it's that simple.

the MMS solution currently is like a fat kick in the nuts. if they don't want us to use MMS, they didn't need to slap us around with that current ******** system.

there are currently MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY times more "regular" phones than "email phones."

and i just want to see the goddam pics my girlfriend sends me. is that so wrong?

They're more likely they have text/picture messaging and use it than having and then actually using email. My mom finally caught up with text messaging. I couldn't imagine her getting a grip on email, assuming her phone even supports email. I don't believe it does being a relatively old, relatively cheap phone. I don't think it's rude to send an initial message and if they don't reply or reply with "I don't have a messaging plan", THEN it's rude to continue. But you know the message got through. This being opposed to email which is certainly no easier to use and almost always requires some form of setup for the carrier. If they don't have a messaging plan and it costs them ten or fifteen cents for that message, it's a safe bet they don't have data, either, and get nothing at all. If my mom is looking for something that I happen to stumble across at the store, I can take a picture and send it via MMS with a caption "Is this what you wanted?" and be relatively sure that she'll get it. She might call me back instead of texting me back, but she'll get it. If I sent it via email? She might get it in a few days when she checks her email again from her home computer. With most of the rest of my friends and family, I'd at least have the option to choose which is more than I have now.
