they were.

not pinnacles of an art form but real music nonetheless (and more real than most of the crap popular today)

oh yes everyones own music taste is REAL music ;)

Music is music, I like a bit of everything and there is definitely worse music and better music but the generational era of eagles and zepplin had pretty bad music/artists just like modern day has good/bad music.

Music is really opinion simple as that.

I actually think they do have a valid case, especially since they approached apple with this idea prior and apple rejected it, only to use it themselves later.

Should they sue Honda as Well?

Maybe they should sue Honda as well since they ALSO did a forced perspective video that uses a lot of the same tricks as in the Apple spot and the OK Go music video. Oh, wait. Honda did this one over a year ago. Oh well, maybe Honda should sue OK Go instead??

Pffft. Get over your bad 80's jingle self.

It diversified, mixed and melded into each other, opinions, new generations and all that. Power pop has been around for at least a couple generations; just wait until you run into the more recent "damn kids these days" styles like screamo and dubstep.

music today sucks kid. So does this current generation.

I noticed the similarity too. OK Go has clever videos. But - I never would have noticed or even heard of them at all unless Apple had used their music to promote an iPod and probably paid them some money for that. And helped them sell a lot of their music because of it.

Huh? OK Go was in an iPod ad? I'm pretty sure everyone knows who they are from the treadmill video, which wasn't Apple related.

Like if OK GO had invented the concept... there are so many artists, designers and brands using this kind of tricks in there work.

apple of course has done this before

Look at you OK Go, so ****ing creative. You didn't invent ****.

its quite confusing. sometimes its about being first then sometimes its about being the influencer and the ones the other copy

In this context, "alternative" just means "not particularly popular". :D

only uneducated ignorant tasteless idiots think popularity is correlative to quality art. From what ive gleaned only NERDS seem to make the types of comments as the quote above on tech-oriented boards.

for more than a decade people were makin some of the best "alternative" music that remained obscure yet immensely relevant, up until artists like nirvana and NWA finally popularized the very idea of "alternative".

Steve Jobs would be disgusted at some of the attitude on here as he WASNT a nerd, thought their disregard for the humanities uncouth, and was a total hippie abstract creative type.

This particularly sucks because OK Go is trying to prevent 1stAveMachine from having a style of production. Video directors and photographers generally do have one or a few styles that they are good at and if you want that style you hire them. OK Go is trying to say Apple can’t hire 1stAveMachine which is a sucky thing to say to 1stAveMachine.

In any case it’s not about OK Go having an idea. It’s about 1stAveMachine having a style and using that style more than once.

NWA, Alternative. . .

Didnt apple already do this before or am i thinkin of another tech company? wasnt some music video obviously copied by someone/some company in an ad? I vaguely remember death cab for cutie?

Looks like I was right, Apple has done somethin like what is accused in the article before:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQ_sf9WuOxQ

It was a music video from The Postal Service, which Benjamin Gibbard (of death cab for cutie) was in.

of course this is 8 years ago, so about 90% of the commenters in this thread probably wont remember or recall. But interesting to see the same thing come up, and i have to say many of u are ridiculous for knee-jerk reactions that it cant possibly be copied (probably solely because of the type of field/medium), given just even a lil recent history.

In any case it’s not about OK Go having an idea. It’s about 1stAveMachine having a style and using that style more than once.

having a style? so you are saying 1stevemachine are the ones behind the concept and they contacted ok go to make the video?

Well.. as the article indicates, the idea is not original nor unique....

The only problem is that Apple was given the idea and rejected it... only to turn around and use it...

I dont think the band is going to file any law suit against Apple... but the folks at Apple that decided to use this implementation of video editing should have something to think about...

Even if nobody cares, I think Mr. Cook would. It damages Apple's image as an American corporatation... and he would look into why this happened.

lol. OK Go did not invent that, and they have ABSOLUTELY NO valid legal claim here under copyright law. If their lawyer is telling them otherwise, they need to fire him because he is just trying to bill out.

All OKGo did was make themselves sound like idiots in this process. And if anyone knows them, send them this message.
