Didnt apple already do this before or am i thinkin of another tech company? wasnt some music video obviously copied by someone/some company in an ad? I vaguely remember death cab for cutie?

Perspective visualization of text goes all the way back to the early Dali and Esher days. Also, there have been many 80's videos that have done this. For them getting "ripped off", I bet the band got too full of themselves, came in way too high during negotiations and Apple decided to do the style without the band while still affording U2 for the day.

Shouldn't OK Go sue the production company, or maybe they didn't have an agreement in place where they couldn't accept another client with the same idea. I fail to see how Apple is at fault here.

What you are describing is a non-competitive agreement. If the job was done in California, that is unenforceable out here.

Ah, I forgot that they invented the whole "words being put into perspective" thing.
Attention seekers.

But, see, here's the problem: OK Go asked to collaborate, gave them the idea, Apple declined; OK Go makes their own video, and Apple then after seeing it hires the same staff and releases their own version of the video.

OK Go has no claim, of course, but it goes to show you how innovative of a commercial it was. If Samsung did it, who here would be salivating, too?

OK Who?

I noticed the similarity too. OK Go has clever videos. But - I never would have noticed or even heard of them at all unless Apple had used their music to promote an iPod and probably paid them some money for that. And helped them sell a lot of their music because of it.

U2 are washed up compared to most lesser known, talented bands and artists.

if Ok Go will sue Apple, then Apple should just remove them on their iTunes store. I bet without Apple adding them into iTunes they would not have made many hits or money... such a crybaby.

Ok Go needs to get over themselves...

Perspective Art has been around far before anyone heard of Apple much less Ok Go (who I still didn't know who they were until I saw their video).

Talk to any graphic designer, or better yet an Art Historian, and you'll quickly learn that even the Ancient Greeks and Egyptians used certain amounts of perspective artistry to create illusions and dimensions shown in both their videos.

I can see where Ok Go is a little irked, but art concept isn't something you can steal when its something that's existed the modern area.

oh no you did ant

This band nor did apple invent these kinds of optical illusions both made videos that are too long and get boring after after the 60 second point.

Should this guy sue both? ;)

WTF happened to music???

It diversified, mixed and melded into each other, opinions, new generations and all that. Power pop has been around for at least a couple generations; just wait until you run into the more recent "damn kids these days" styles like screamo and dubstep.

There is no way, in either a TBWA Media Arts Lab Pitch to apple, or the internal creative team they're building, someone didn't show the OK GO video early in the stages of making this, point to the screen and say "Let's make that".

I'd bet the farm on it.

Whoa, you guys are ridiculous.

So when somebody copies apple " Sue the **** out of them" and when apple steals an idea "good riddance" ?

To me there's a difference if the copying is in the same industry, same line of work, hurting profits. But this? If Apple were a music band, then I could see the complaint. But c'mon, if anything this is going to bring more business to OK GO.

I think they are just looking for a quick buck.

I enjoyed them both.

I enjoyed them both. Each has it's own take on the perspective manipulation. There is a similarity, but a different feel and what is being emphasized. The band will get some additional exposure from it. Good for them. I probably wouldn't have heard their song otherwise.

Apple copied something? I ain't even surprised anymore, it's all they ever seem to do nowadays.
