IMO- this is just the latest in a bunch of dumb moves Apple has made lately. Making almost all the laptops out of aluminum and glass isn't practical for a lot of people either. Excluding firewire is another one that just doesn't compute at the moment. I'm beginning to wonder what people are smoking in Cupertino.

You KNOW what they're smokin'! :D

Seriously though, Apple has made some great decisions and some bad ones (iPod HiFi, G4 Cube, iWeb) but some of their best decisions that WE think are dumb end up becoming the trend for every other manufacturer. They all end up following Apple. Why? Because it WAS a good decision. This forum alone doesn't tell the story of how people feel about Apple's decisions.

Tosser. You really need to get a job, hobby or both. Look at the history of my posts....never have I done anything as ridiculous as I just did (By quoting your remarks, again, as you so eloquently do....EVERY Time someone writes something).

"As it stands, you're saying that USB NOW is superior to FW, and that with some promised future technology we won't have any problems whatsoever. You have to be freaking pulling my leg!"

Come on Tosser, I never said that, not ONE time. Nothing like that, ever! Seriously! Why do you make up so much drivel. Every single comment or argument given has nothing to do with what I have said.

USB is NOT superior to FW. Never said it was. I said it was being passed by, by manufactures, including it's inventor. USB IS, However, MUCH more commonly used on almost EVERY computing platform in the world right now, currently, RIGHT NOW, USB 2.0. My point to 3.0 is that is is being developed and talked about in the press....and I only bring it up because they are continuing the support for it. Now how in the hell does that make me such a Fan Boy of USB?

I am not a Fan Boy of any connection system in the world. I have mentioned several times, for those that don't care to read everything written , that I do prefer FW in many cases.

Also, and Lastly as I will not respond to any more out of work, unemployed wanna be Creative Guys.

I own 3 businesses. I have had a video production company for almost 21 years now. We were the first in town to shoot, produce and place on Network television....local High Def spots. In fact, one of my employees worked on the (not so great) Discovery Channel show, "Tougher in Alaska" this past summer!

Secondly, a sound production business that's been doing shows (concerts, comedians, and other big events) for 16 years.

Third, I run a Mobile Entertainment company with 5 different rigs, including the ability to integrate video and laser/scanner effects to our shows.

I've been an amateur photographer and PS user for 15 years. I will never shoot professionally, as it's always been a hobby.

Don't try to shoot my living or profession down with your insecurities. It's not necessary. I am pretty proud to own my own company, make my own mortgage payment and pay employee's wages. I have 5 full time employees and 9 part timers. That is a lot of families that depend on me. I've been feeding my family, on my own for 19 years now....you?

Now that I have taken this thread FAR from its original intent, I will bow out. As far as you Mr. Tosser....I haven't met anyone on this forum as ignorant and life-less as you. I will no longer answer or respond to your drivel. Hopefully, others understand what a spin artist (or wanna be) you are. I hope they learn as quickly as I, how shallow you REALLY are, LOL:)

Seriously, I am out!

I cannot believe I have to explain such basic things:

A claim about a technology being obsolete, backed up by using such parallels like the floppy discs ...

A claim that FW is obsolete (by way of the above) followed up by such nonsense that we should move "forwards" technology-wise and go to USB (which by any standards are USB 2.0 as we speak [well, type]) ...

... is a claim that the FW is "old, and obsolete technology" and that "USB is superior".

Further, you claim now that you have NEVER said to be a fan of Firewire, yet in you opening posts in our little debate, this is exactly what you say, before you go on to praise USB and the lowest common denominator.

I really don't want to continue down this path, where you claim one thing, and the next moment claim you never said any such thing. And I certainly don't want to continue a discussion where the opponent invents the meaning of words as he goes along an don't have a basic understanding of the tech, nor of the words he use. I can't believe I'm saying this, but it should have been the other way around: I'm the bloody dane, living in a country where we don't speak english natively – I should be the one having difficulties in that regard.

This, however, warrants somewhat of a reply:

Also, and Lastly as I will not respond to any more out of work, unemployed wanna be Creative Guys.

This is how it always goes: Someone makes an ad hominem when they run out of arguments. And if they still have nothing to bring to the table, they will pretend in one ther consecutive posts that whatever they said was true and repeat the exact same statement for want of intellectual integrity. My take on that is that they'r unable to withtract such statements, but "perhaps if I repeat it, it might become true". Yes, people like that does come out looking quite dimwitted.

It's quite the paradoxical statement, though: You're the one who doesn't know what "obsolete" means – even after you looked it up and quoted the dictionary to me. You have no clue what you're saying and whether what you say is a logical fallacy and is showing ignorance of the audio industry (and other industries) as a whole – yet, you're the one, claiming that I'm the wannabe, not to mention once again trying out an ad hominem to see if it fits your style – I'm sorry to say that it fits your style like a glove:
Dimwitted speculation based on something as tangible as pure fantasy.

P.S. As you can see, I haven't responded to most of your post, as I really find most of it to be an ad hominem and the stories about your life mixed with a slew of thinly veiled ad hominems, is - as usual - utterly irrelevant to your knowledge of, say, the audio industry.

However, it IS quite telling that one thing is your hobby, and the other thing you do (no matter how many employees you have – you could have thousands and it wouldn't make your arguments any better): having a party-company where you DJ and put up lighting, just shows that you need to widen your horizon and stop thinking like dj'ing is representative of the audio industry as a whole. If you had had thousands of employees, the ignorance would be even worse, though. I'll give you that.

...and being a photographer I find myself on location, as I ALWAYS am!!! The battery dies, as I ALWAYS does, 'cuz I shoot tethered and it takes a lotta juice to power a 33mp Leaf back!!! NOW WHAT DO I DO?!! Don't these Apple design geniuses EVER ask people like me how we use their products? If I'm out in East Jesus with no power, a laptop that doesn't have a spare battery is nothing more than a paper weight! And no...I don't wanna unscrew the case, remove the battery, pop in a replacement battery (and probably void my warranty, right), and take about ten stinking minutes to do so!!!

The 17" laptops have become the de-facto standard for location guys like me and now Apple goes and makes another boneheaded move by taking away interchangeable batteries?!! Jesus-H-Christ.........the stupidity is getting too much to take!

While I can't directly relate because I honestly never swap batteries, I definitely can see your point, and sympathize.

Just because one person doesn't do what the OP does, doesn't mean it requires the obligatory "if you don't like it, buy the 15" or "too bad for you".

Hopefully a cottage industry will pop up with a high capacity external battery with a mag safe connector. Honestly I'm surprised no one's done it yet. Something like the external iPod batteries, but for the laptop.

You shouldn't be running a leaf blower off a MacBook Pro anyway! I didn't know those ran off USB. I use a 2 cycles for blowing leaves. <grin>

Seriously, why don't you run it off an external battery? Then pick a size that will last for as long as you need it.
