I am going Samsung s10 tablet when it hits. the snapdragon cpu had caught up to apple silicon.
I owned the S8 Ultra. The speed wasn’t the issue, it was Android, the lack of apps and being outside the Apple ecosystem that ruined the experience for me. I remember edge detection was comically bad as well. I had to hold it with the palms of my hands to not accidentally press anything. Fantastic movie viewing though.

The conspiracy theories are funny. Pricing is based on a target GPM over COGS that Apple needs to hit.

That's all there is to it.

The rumors always seemed like trolling, but maybe a bit more questions should be asked before we just start citing everything somoeone says.
Well that wouldn't be any fun, now would it? Lol. What would all the negative people here have to complain about? I'd love it if we could just get the facts, but you know as well as I, even if we did everyone would still find something to complain about.

IMHO pricing for an ipad is ridiculous, especially if you add all the extra's you need to make such a device usable.

Personally I much prefer a decent laptop (although pricing of those is becoming blatantly high as well).

On the plus side, OLED technology not only improves display longevity and efficiency but also allows for higher brightness levels. Apple is sourcing these OLED panels from Samsung and LG Display, who are rumored to be developing these special two-stack tandem OLED panels specifically for Apple.

Did I miss something? How does OLED improve display longevity over current LCD-based MiniLED display?

Classic strategy. Float a false rumor of massive price hikes to make the actual price increase (which is still significant) more palatable.
This is exactly what I posted elsewhere on this site a few weeks ago. I’m sure the rumors of ultra high prices for the new iPad Pros came from Apple itself - just as with iPhone 15 Pro price rumors. When the actual device is revealed, it has a significant price increase - but nowhere near the level of the rumors. So, instead of grumbling, customers breathe a sigh of relief and line up with their credit cards in hand, ready to buy.

I did not know that OLED technology is supposed to improve longevity. I thought a big fear is these screens on monitors at least was burn in? Which would seem to be bad for longevity? Is that not so?

Typically, OLED doesn’t increase longevity. It’s an open secret that it degrades. All panels aren’t equal, of course, and uneven wear has improved over time, but I think it’s almost certainly false to claim that it has better longevity than LCD.
Came here to post that. Longevity is not one of OLED’s strong points.

Definitely not from Apple itself. The prices were too ridiculous to have come from even Apple.
From Apple or someone doing Apple’s bidding. I spent quite a bit of time in the financial news world. You might be surprised how many so-called analysts would do such a thing to ingratiate themselves with a company. And it doesn’t matter if the rumored price was ridiculous. It worked. Apple fanbois are breathing sighs of relief already.

I highly doubt it. OLED itself + large OLED + Two stack tandem + LTPO+ high specs = Totally expensive. Beside it's Digitimes source which is unreliable. The Korean source would be reliable.

They're already expensive enough. The only time they sell as it is is during Christmas when Best Buy, Amazon, etc., puts them on sale.

Samsung sells tablets with OLED displays for like $500. Why can't Apple?
Samsung tablets lack important features and made out of cheap OLED.

That’s just it. Anyone with any knowledge of Apple’s release practices, like real fanbois, knew those previously predicted price points were totally ridiculous. It was mainly the haters and the uninitiated who would have had any belief in those numbers. So, your reasoning doesn’t really make much sense

iPads do feel like they're about 100% overpriced currently. They're mainly used as toys for children, or a secondary consumption device that isn't essential as we all own a phone.
? iPads start at US$309 (edu). Are you suggesting they should start at $155?

BTW, ironically, for young kids, often times they have iPads first and only get phones years later.

For an altruistic company that supposedly cares about all walks of life, they sure do price out the middle to lower class income earners.
They’re a for-profit business, not a charity. Where did you get the impression they’re ‘altruistic’? Also, they have a wide iPad product line for ‘all walks of life’ such as the base iPad or Air.

Their “Pro” line (in any of their products) was never designed for the segment you suggest, nor do most of the population actually need it for most use cases (other lines will be more than sufficient).

I had the same issue with my S8 ultra (and every Android or Windows tablet), that is no edge detection with slim bezels. Found an app called Edge Touch which solved the problem. Now I use Android tablets (s8 ultra, s9 11") more than my iPads...(I am not in the Apple ecosystem so no issue there)
