$1500-$2000 for an iPad anything is ****ing outrageous! The problem, in the US anyway, is that idiots out there will actually pay these prices, which is why prices keep going up all the time now. There has never been a time in the 43 years I've been on this earth when prices have risen as much as they have over the past three years. I've asked people 20-30 years older than me and they've never seen this kind of price gouging before either. But yeah, keep charging your way through life. The chickens are going to come home to roost sooner than later.

Samsung tablet got OLED years ago and cost much less than $1000.

and is thinner than iPad Pro.

even the 14-inch starts at $1199 (an can regularly be bought for less)

Apple has to stick to the current (already very high prices): $799 for the 11-inch and $1099 for the 12.9. And if they want to launch a bigger one they can price it at $1299 but not more.

Just because you release something new it doesn’t have to carry a higher price.
Not everything is screen, but when it comes to it: among other specs, the S9 Ultra screen has almost half the sustained XDR brightness levels of the iPad Pro. OLED of course brings some benefits (mainly contrast), but it’s not a magic bullet.

Any good Android tablets? I guess I won't be getting another iPad.
I bought the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra and I love it. Got a 12GB/256GB 5G model for under 950€. Moved my SIM card and 512GB SD card into it and I'm all good. Totally love it! It's way better for me as its got a much wider aspect ratio at 16:10 vs the 4:3 of the iPads.

That said, no matter how good it is it'll suck for most Apple ecosystem people because of iCloud. Anything Android is painful while the core of your online/cloud services are in iCloud.

I’ve never quite understood these pricing rumours. Why would ‘industry sources’ (probably a supplier) be privy to final retail pricing that has no reason to leave upper levels of marketing in HQ? Have they ever been accurate?

What are the chances of me also needing to buy a new Magic Keyboard and new Apple Pencil to go with it too? Probably won’t be backwards compatible with the old models.

Maybe they’ll come with a polishing cloth to justify the prices? Not holding my breath though.
Sure, the iCloth Pro will start for as low as $199. Or as Bob Dylan put it:
Bury the rag deep in your face, for now is the time for your tears

Money is not really an issue for me. Value is and I'd get more value from a weekend away.

I bought the pro for two reasons: for note taking, writing up coursework and for digital art. Thanks to the futzing around that goodnotes is currently doing, the fact it's vastly inferior to a bit of A4 paper and a gel pen and the lack of any other half decent software out there, that case was nullified quickly and I went back to paper and writing it up in LaTeX instead. The second part, digital art, is just inferior to actually getting your hands dirty. Rather have some copic markers!

As for travel, which I do a lot of, I haven't needed anything more than my iPhone. In fact anything else is probably too much.
But a weekend for ¢ 2 k is just gone and you have only two days of fun while the OLED iPad will probably last for a decade of fun - interesting thought to trade in two days agains probably 8 .. 10 years :)

Good to hear that a SmartPhone is good enough for you - for me with large videos and images while traveling the iPad is a wonderful fall back option or the only travel item in case I want to travel lean.

I'd order the maxed out iPad PRO 11.1 " immediately in case possible. For me it's a device that replaces my very much hated company PC LapTop.

You've never put an iPP next to an S8/S9 Ultra for yourself and done a normal thing like watched Netflix have you?

Guess the guy who buys the vision pro won’t have a problem with the price…

What are the chances of the new M3 Pro models running the full MacOS?
Of running it? 100% as internally it's already running MacOS...

Chances of shipping that capability? My SWAG is not gonna happen in the next 2 years... but if they need a unit booster after that they have it in their back pocket

Holy crap I hope this iPad Pro I was given never breaks. No way I could ever justify that expense. I like it, I don’t $1500 like it.

Just give me a good 11” iPad with promotion for less than $1000 new. Preferably way less.

I’d bet good money this is what happened to 90% of people who bought an iPad Pro in the past, intending to finally use it for "real work":
  • You send a few emails but you need a keyboard, so you shell out for one. Then you realise the iPad becomes about as thick and heavy as an MBA.
  • You think you’ll finally unleash your creativity or improve your note-taking so you also buy an Apple Pencil. You draw some stick figures, houses and trees in Notes app, then lose the pencil or stick it on the fridge door so that you don't lose it again
  • You take the camera for a test drive, take some pics and realise they're worse than any flagship phone's. Plus you can't carry around an iPad to take pictures.
  • You realise there is nothing on the iPad that can’t be done 100x easier and better on a Mac.
  • You end up using it to watch Netflix and YouTube in bed.
Now all of the above can be done for $2,000.

No, but it’s an objective fact that the iPP will get brighter. However, I do agree that the S9 Ultra will be better for Netflix (also considering i.e. aspect ratio). But I’ve heard many people complaining that the iPad is not “professional”, and when it comes to that it seems like the iPP screen is better.

I see less and less point for an ipad. Def wouldn’t pay over 700. The new exciting tech they can charge money for is the Vision Pro . iPads are kinda boring now unless they combine with MacBooks

I just can't find any use for one. I've bought and gave away several at this point.

Last one ended up as a family iPad. It has all the streaming apps and gets passed around, but I never use it.

95%. The Pencil 2 might still work, but probably won’t fit for the magnetic attachment and charging.

I'm never going to reach for a tablet to "do something". I have a pair of MacBook Pros for that. The tablet for me is to enjoy something. The brightness difference is only noticeable if you're looking for it. So while other can complain about "being professional" or not I'm going to continue to enjoy the bigness of the S9!

I'm an Apple fanboy but there is zero chance I buy this Ipad Pro at those prices. I would keep my current M1 Ipad Pro until it dies then switch to the Air down the road.

I don't know if this is the same source/rumor that was floating around before, but I just don't find it credible either way.
