There’s no way this is going to be true. That’s a laughable increase for an OLED display.

Then again I said the same about the Vision pro and it actually ended up being 500 more than the rumours so anything is possible with apple i guess.

I’ve never quite understood these pricing rumours. Why would ‘industry sources’ (probably a supplier) be privy to final retail pricing that has no reason to leave upper levels of marketing in HQ? Have they ever been accurate?
Possibly a controlled leak to soften the blow before they actually unveil these prices. I remember the Vision Pro had rumors of being around $3000 before it was actually revealed.

I still can't imagine Apple truly just asking people to pay nearly double for new display technology. There'd be no way to market it that doesn't sound unreasonable. The only thing I can imagine is that there is an aspect to these iPads that we haven't heard about yet, maybe on the software side.

Not really, Apple pricing rumors are usually way off the mark.
Which is why I expect the new iPad pros if they get a price increased to start at more like $999 and $1199.
They aren’t going to literally double the price for a slightly faster chip and a new screen

If they do this, I'll walk. simple as that and I know they don't care because some peer pressured teen will replace me as a customer.

Tim and his goons are milking every little thing, the iPad is not good enough to justify these prices.

They're media consumption devices with a few lunatics who pretend it's a MacBook with an overpriced keyboard.

iPadOS is just too basic for real productivity.

Ill go Galaxy Tab for OLED or Pixel Tablet for value.

Sadly, people will pay. Samsung will also raise its tablet prices.

Remember when Apple released the iphone X for 1k....
I remember. I also remember when Apple released a comparable but much improved phone 6 years later for the same price, although overall inflation was about 25% over those 6 years.

I'm never going to reach for a tablet to "do something". I have a pair of MacBook Pros for that. The tablet for me is to enjoy something. The brightness difference is only noticeable if you're looking for it. So while other can complain about "being professional" or not I'm going to continue to enjoy the bigness of the S9!
Absolutely valid and right, but my two points hold:
  • The OLED screen of the new iPP will probably keep the upsides of the miniLED one, like brightness.
  • Screen will be just part of the price increase.

Hey, you get what you pay for. Hard to see why people are complaining, unless it's part of talking themselves into believing they need an OLED iPad for *anything*. The truth is an OLED iPad is not going to make you work faster, better, smarter, any of that stuff. All that depends on whether or not there are good apps that let you accomplish it should you want to use the iPadOS platform.

If you have the money to purchase one, then it's your economic decision to do so. End of story. It has less to do with Apple's alleged ridiculous pricing structure and more with the mental gymnastics techie boys perform with something they want but act with disdain over the cost.

I'm an Apple fanboy but there is zero chance I buy this Ipad Pro at those prices. I would keep my current M1 Ipad Pro until it dies then switch to the Air down the road.
Same, iPad Pro 12.9 M1 over here not quite professional use (5% of the time) and more hobbyist/entertainment/companion use (the other 95%).

It is by far my favorite gadget but can’t justify that price increase, would rather they offer the option of a non-OLED one and save all that money. I find the miniLED displays already fantastic, so wouldn’t think I’m missing out.

An iPad Air M3 seems like it would be that non-OLED option, hope they don’t gimp it in many other places: same battery, same M3, RAM, Face ID, pencil hover features, etc

The iPad Pro is already a difficult value proposition for anyone who could use one. The biggest problem is that a laptop can do far more than an iPad and offers a ton more flexibility. Unless you need something specific, like an Apple Pencil, there’s little reason to buy an iPad Pro. To almost double the price of the 11 inch will probably kill the market for iPad Pros. I think most people buying them are hobbyists and not people who use them as “professional” devices. They;ll bulk at such a steep price for a fairly niche product.

But a weekend for ¢ 2 k is just gone and you have only two days of fun while the OLED iPad will probably last for a decade of fun - interesting thought to trade in two days agains probably 8 .. 10 years :)

Good to hear that a SmartPhone is good enough for you - for me with large videos and images while traveling the iPad is a wonderful fall back option or the only travel item in case I want to travel lean.

I'd order the maxed out iPad PRO 11.1 " immediately in case possible. For me it's a device that replaces my very much hated company PC LapTop.

I think I've used it for less than a weekend since I got it which is where the tradeoff is. I'm in Europe so a weekend away can be as far as Central Asia without too much hassle ;)

As for travelling, large videos and images stay on the SD cards in my mirrorless camera. No iPhone is good enough for my travel requirements in that department.

1 TB SSD and 16 or 24 GB RAM, 13 inch OLED for about $2000 - OK, no worries as corresponding MiniLED goes for $1800.

These are the iPad Pro that should be compared to Mac Pro/Mac Studio. Niche use cases for the very few. The Air 12.9 will be for the masses wanting bigger displays.

PS. Too many here should never consider buying iPad Pro as they seem to be keyboard and pointer centric rather than touch centric. DS.
I don't know, I went from a Pro back to an Air back to a Pro again. There doesn't appear to be any obvious useability factor there, just power and components...but most importantly, the larger option.

So it’ll go from $599 for an air to $1499 for a pro. I call BS. Apple is a master at pricing tiers so what’s the in-between here?!

Plus a new keyboard and pencil will put all of it at $2000+…… in this economy. No just stop

$1500-$2000 for an iPad anything is ****ing outrageous! The problem, in the US anyway, is that idiots out there will actually pay these prices, which is why prices keep going up all the time now. There has never been a time in the 43 years I've been on this earth when prices have risen as much as they have over the past three years. I've asked people 20-30 years older than me and they've never seen this kind of price gouging before either. But yeah, keep charging your way through life. The chickens are going to come home to roost sooner than later.
That is not price gouging if the profit ratio is the same, and it likely is.

Except an OLED iPad isn't worth $1500 because the software is fisher price and everyone knows it.

Samsung have fantastic OLED tablets for 1K and bigger as well, Android v iOS means nothing on a tablet when it's just Netflix, Disney or prime being used 90% of the time.

You all make it sound like tablets and laptops are mutually exclusive. Sure, maybe I could buy another laptop for the (rumoured) price of the next iPad Pro, but what use would that do when I already have a laptop that's working great for me? Nothing wrong with paying top dollar for both a great laptop and a great tablet and if the latter proves to be overkill, a refreshed iPad Air with the M2 chip can easily go a long way as well.

There will be a 12" iPad Air that will probably start at $800-900 as well don't forget.

For this kind of price I would not be updating my iPad Pro 11". I might go to the Air next then, or just wait for the updated iPad Mini. I don't use the iPad enough for this asking price.

Also with handheld Windows PCs being the next big thing right now... who needs a tablet?
