Well, either I’ll get an older one or go droid (they’re going to have to open their ecosystem with the outcry of governments) No way is anyone paying that much for an iPad. They’re gonna have to sell a strip down version.
Yeah it’s called an air

If that ends up being right then what the hell is wrong with Apple and their ridicolous prices, it's getting beyond insane between this, the insanely overpriced headset and charging stupid prices for extra Mac RAM. Is Apple trying to destroy itself, if so they are heading in the right direction.

We keep hearing these crazy rumors, and yet it doesn't make sense. I think we're missing a piece of the puzzle, and that piece is that Apple is going to completely redesign the iPad Pro to be a hybrid Mac/iPad device. I wouldn't be surprised if they put the M Pro chip in it as well, more memory, a bump to the base storage, and allow it to run a sandboxed version of macOS when using a mouse and keyboard and when using an external display.

The alternative is that Apple creates a foldable iPad Pro and that's why?

Either way, Apple would move the iPad Air up closer to the previous iPad Pro slot. Maybe give it ProMotion, a current generation base M chip, FaceID, and maybe price it $100 less than the previous iPad Pro prices since it would probably use a more standard LCD. I think there was a rumor about a larger iPad Air coming out at one point? Apple loves to walk people up that product line price ladder. Maybe the new iPad Pro would be a bit larger, with smaller bezels. The iPad Air would retain bezels and be a little smaller for both sizes. Then you have the cheapo iPad below that, a little smaller yet.

It just seems like with no releases last year, Apple is poised to shake up the iPad lineup across the board.

I don’t believe that the rumor is true. How would a hardware manufacturer know what Apple marketing is going to charge?

But if true, then I am expecting something shockingly innovative and must have for that money, not just OLED and slightly faster chip.

But if only OLED for $2K, it’s a hard pass from me. I can easily afford it, but can’t see the value. I got rid of my Air 3 due to faulty screen responsiveness, and bought an iPad 10 to tide me over until I could buy the new 11” iPP this year. But at these prices, no way.

Meanwhile the iPad 10 I’m using just to control my Mac Mini music server.

For real work I’m super happy with my new M2 15” MBA 16/1.

For couch and bed casual use as well as on the move, my iPhone is enough.

I can easily live without a 2K iPP. Apple have lost their minds (and my sale)… if the rumors are true…

As said, amazingly many who should never consider the iPad Pro. There are good Macs, stick to those. If your usage pattern is consumption, chose and Air and base iPads. Many seem to be hurt by not needing or being able afford the "pro" league device. Buy the device that first your usage pattern and forget Apple embarrassing "Pro" label that is so last millennium in terms of marketing.

I hate to say it, but if the design and features are good enough… I will be buying.

I’ve had my 12.9” Pro since late 2018 and 6 years later I am beyond ready for an upgrade.

I remember. I also remember when Apple released a comparable but much improved phone 6 years later for the same price, although overall inflation was about 25% over those 6 years.
Sure, things have a price ceiling (for a while). The tablet market hasn't hit its yet as the transition from laptops and desktops to just living the tablet life has been a little slower. I believe it's peaking now as older and younger generations can use tablets and phones exclusively and live in the cloud for storage + apps. The number of people who won't buy a traditional computer is growing. iPad also has less real competition compared to the iPhone.

I think Apple will gladly price up the Pro iPads and watch as the competition follows.

The unfortunate angle to this is that the people who’ll benefit most from the OLED screen - ie professionals - would turn to a Mac for most of their work.
While I agree with your comment, that just wouldn‘t work for me. Until the Mac/Macbook has built in cellular data and rear camera, it will never be able to replace the things I use my iPad for. While I’m probably in the minority, the iPad fits my workflow better than anything I’ve ever used. I’ve been able to stay connected while in “the field” via cellular when typhoons/earthquakes knocked out wifi. Being able to go live and direct relief aid from my iPad while showing pictures from the rear camera has been awesome. These are things I was never able to do with my Macbook. Hopefully the prices won’t be as high as this article, but if so, I’ll buy it…. Just less often.

Oh come on, people! Why are so many of you taking these rumors as gospel? Did this information come from anyone working at Apple? NO!

Remember the rumors about the original iPad? Everyone was saying it was going to be priced at $999. Then we were all shocked when Steve Jobs announced it would be selling for $499!

Same with 15 inch MacBook Air: the “experts” predicted $1599. The reality? $1299.

Better to chill until the new iPads are actually announced (i.e., stop stressing over unsubstantiated Apple pricing rumors).

And btw, when it comes to comparing iPad to Mac prices, some people argue against it saying that you can get a MBA for the same price. But many of us see it the other way around: I want an iPad, not a Mac, I would pay more for an iPad than an equivalent (storage, screen, etc.) Mac. I want iPadOS in the best iPad hardware, not another Mac.
I get what you're saying but for your sake (and others in your situation), I hope Apple significantly improves iPadOS to justify these increased prices (assuming if true).

Samsung tablet got OLED years ago and cost much less than $1000.
The OLED in that Samsung tablet (and even their newest tablets) are nothing like the OLED panels going into the new iPad Pro. The latter will use significantly more advanced panels.

It's gonna be expensive because of few technology:

1. OLED itself is expensive. Simple.

2. LPTO cost more than regular models.

3. Two stack tandem is a new technology which is way more expensive than any other OLED. LG already used this for cars but iPad Pro will be the first product to use.

4. 11/13 inch size is another reason why it's gonna be expensive as it's difficult to manufacture a larger screen with dented pixel.

Combining all of those, it will be so expensive for sure.
At these prices, it's going to be an extremely niche product.

For that price, it better come with the latest and greatest! At least 1TB of storage, multi-directional Face ID with minimal bezels, state of the art cameras, Apple Pencil included by default, made with a titanium housing…. Ah who am I kidding, April fools is a few months away

Starting at 2000 €, at this point is just nonsense selling this devices in the EU, we have families to feed and sons to educate.
