Especially when Samsung added OLED to the base 11" Tab S9, which has a similar price to the 11" Pro

If this happens, I'll just pickup the M2 instead. I would've been tempted anyway, but this would make the decision a lot easier
That OLED that Samsung is using is not the same as the dual-layer OLED that Apple is supposed to be using. Still, a $500+ premium is just way more than worthwhile. I’ll just stay with my 2018 iPP if that is the price.

I've asked people 20-30 years older than me and they've never seen this kind of price gouging before either.
Let me introduce you to the 1970's...

Inflation in total is not that high right now, in the US anyway, despite some talking heads trying to whip up fears of inflation in time for the US election.

However, we are seeing price increases that will only manifest more and more.

Problem is this: we are running out of slaves in the world.

People in China want decent pay. People in India want decent pay. Same for Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, etc.

I suppose we can still have our clothes made in Bangladesh or Pakistan, but even that is going to run out (due to other issues.)

By offshoring labor to countries with extremely relatively-poor people, residents of the US (and Canada and western Europe and...) have enjoyed several decades now of luxuries.

Guess what - that can't continue forever.

No it's totally different and LG is making OLED panels for this iPad Pro as they are the only one making two stack tandem OLED. Beside, it's not just OLED, it's LPTO + Two stack Tandem + large OLED panel which makes it much expensive.

I think there is a difference between price gouging, which to me is something that is done to those who *need* a product like food, toilet paper, or a basic computer. Versus the high end market where purchases aren't necessities but luxuries.
Agree. People miss this point. Much of what is argued over on MR is about luxuries, not necessities.

Yes, people working in manufacturing in China, India, and elsewhere deserve decent pay. But a way to partially fund that is not by increasing prices, but rather by cutting corporate executives' compensation drastically to at least pre-1980s levels in terms of how many times more CEOs were being paid in comparison to their average employees. The pseudo-humanitarian Tim Cook would definitely not approve of that though.

Interesting that the current rumors are focusing on the price, but -OLED aside- not on the device itself. My manipulation radar is pinging…

Where’s my tinfoil hat?

So try to charge similar to a full-on macbook pro yet run it with watered-down software? That sounds about right...

I really hope my M2 iPad Pro to last me many, many years. I’m not getting one of the new iPad Pros at this price and with an OLED screen (I’m more comfortable with IPS LCD).

Sounds like iPad Pro is intended only for the very "pro" of consumers. They aren't targeting mainstream customers who just want the best. The best is now too expensive. And for that kind of money, ipadOS doesn't cut it. Need a pro os if you are charging high-end pro prices.

Even for professional uses, OLED is not even considered or extremely rare. Smartphone and TV OLED's logic does NOT work with big screen + dense pixels. This is why tablet and computer monitors are still rare with OLED panels.

Most of professional monitors are still LCD based and mini-LED are still rare. Yes, there are a few OLED based professional monitors but most of them have peak brightness limitation around 100~300 nits which is far from mini-LED and reference monitors. Beside, burn-in is still a biggest issue to deal with which eventually kill its color accuracy and uniformity. Eizo can provide up to 5 years of warranty and they last more than 10 years and I doubt that OLED monitors can do that.

Expecting a price hike but don't think it will start at $1500 for 11". Maybe $999 for 11"(WiFi only) and $1299 for 12.9" WiFi only. Add another $200 for cellular variants. Also possible that the base storage increases to 256GB

That price is possible only if it's a small OLED panel. Guess what? Not gonna work. A large OLED panel with LPTO, two stack tandem, and professional quality will dramatically increase the price. Two stack tandem is already expensive and like I said before, 11~32 inch display with high pixel density is a niche market.

Because having money means you're fine with wasting it?
I've bought several Apple products and often the higher end ones and not once have I thought in hindsight that it was a waste of money. Never once a buyers remorse though I have felt it on other brands. My 2017 10.5 inch iPad Pro is going strong and will do so for a couple of more years at least. At that time it was a higher end iPad. For these 6 years I've enjoyed the bigger display, higher refresh rate, thinner design, pencil support and better speakers I paid extra for.

They can call it iPad SuperUltraProMax or whatever they want, it’s still iPad that running limited iOS. Even if the base model will come with 512GB storage and 16GB RAM, these prices are still ridiculous for iPads.

People that will buy these iPads think it will replace their computer needs, will find out its to complicated/on the border of not possible, aka useless, to use iPad for a serious work like they used to do laptop/desktop and end up using them for basic daily usage and media consumption, something they can also do with basic iPad…

Bologna! I have been using my M1 iPad Pro to take care of all things concerning my real estate and property management businesses since Nov 2021. In fact, I liked the work flow, mobility, and simplicity so much better than my 2019 16" i9 MBP that I sold the MBP and never looked back. I can do things with ease on my iPP for my businesses that I could never even think of doing with my MBP. IMHO, the iPad is the most innovative, convenient and easy to use, flexible device that Apple has made to date.

I never mentioned inflation once. But, I get what you are saying regarding cheap labor.
