I have been waiting for an OLED iPad, but there is no way I'm paying $1,500+ for an iPad that cannot run MacOS.

If this pans out, then I'm 100% buying a Galaxy Tab S9+ tablet instead.

The iPad - especially the Pro - is a solution looking for a problem, a shiny toy among otherwise useful products.

Of course, the real problem is not the iPad itself, but the iPadOS it runs.

Unless Apple meaningfully change that - say, by allowing us to also run MacOS on iPad Pros - I don't see how having better screens will move the needle in terms of sales one bit, certainly not if the price increases are drastic.

Even without a more expensive screen, the iPadPro feels like a terribly overpriced toy for what it does (I've got a 2022 12.9" iPadPro sitting around at home)

At that point, I might as well just get a higher tier MacBook Pro lmao. Who tf is paying $1.5-2k for an OLED iPad when iPadOS is still horrible. If it could run MacOS, that would be one thing. An M3 Pro MacBook Pro 14" costs $2k...even the Vision Pro is a better use of money than a $2k iPad. And I say that as someone who uses their 12.9" iPad Pro every single day as my sole entertainment device

Here here! Preach, brother

It's gonna be expensive because of few technology:

1. OLED itself is expensive. Simple.

2. LPTO cost more than regular models.

3. Two stack tandem is a new technology which is way more expensive than any other OLED. LG already used this for cars but iPad Pro will be the first product to use.

4. 11/13 inch size is another reason why it's gonna be expensive as it's difficult to manufacture a larger screen with dented pixel.

Combining all of those, it will be so expensive for sure.

I hope base storage is 512gb

Lmao no thanks.

8GB RAM 256GB
😄👍
Actually... let's stick with what works. 128GB/8GB base. Even for the cellular version of course ;)

Also... did you know, that Apple's innovative 128GB will be actually more than poor man's 256GB? True story! Just like with 8GB v 16GB RAM /s

If true, this pricing is ridiculous. They should be OLED by now already tbh and this should just be move to QD-OLED/Two-stack from [W]OLED.*

*Although sympathy to those who report suffering from displays' PWM

Just as OLED panels start to become more affordable and even devices sold at a loss like the Steam Deck can afford to ship with them

I’m sure these screens will be immaculate but I know I’m having a hard time justifying the iPad Pro’s prices as they are right now

Maybe they’ll trickle down to the entry level devices in two years or so 🤷‍♂️

I believe you will see a $200 price increase on both models for OLED. No more than that.

$999 for base model 11" iPad Pro.
$1,299 for base model 13" iPad Pro.
I woud say $999 and $1199 (since the 12.9 is already miniled)

We’re approaching MBA and MBP territory with these supposed prices. Apple is going to price me out of the Pro models if this is the case (though still hoping this rumor is wrong).

Apple's upcoming OLED iPad Pro will start at $1,500, rising to between $1,800 and $2,000 depending on size and configuration, representing a major increase in prices compared to Apple's current equivalents. That's according to a new report on the news aggregator account "yeux1122" on the Naver blog.

iPad-Pro-OLED-Feature-2.jpg

This is the second time a Korean source has claimed that Apple's new iPad Pros will be vastly more expensive that the company's existing models. Last March, a report by The Elec estimated prices starting at $1,500 and $1,800 for the 11-inch and 13-inch models, respectively.

The $2,000 figure for the 13-inch model in the latest report could refer to a new, higher storage capacity offered by Apple, although that would actually present a slightly lower top-end price – the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro maxed out at 2TB starts from $2,100, depending on Wi-Fi or cellular configuration.

If accurate, these price hikes would make the new 11-inch device over 80% more expensive than the existing 11-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ with LED Liquid Retina display, which starts at $799. As for the 13-inch model, assuming a base configuration costing $1,800, it would be around 60% more expensive than the current 12.9-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ with mini-LED Liquid Retina XDR display, which starts at $1,099.

For further reference, the OLED iPad Pro price estimates far exceed the starting price of some MacBook configurations that Apple currently sells, with the 13.6-inch MacBook Air with M2 chip starting at $1,199. The main reason for the price hikes is believed to be the large proportion of material costs taken up by Apple's OLED panel procurement from the likes of LG and Samsung.

Today's report suggests that Apple will justify the higher prices by increasing storage and emphasizing the benefits in quality of OLED over existing iPad screens, particularly the higher contrast and brightness offered at an equivalent or lower level of power consumption. The report also implies that Apple will promote the new devices' thinness and lightness compared to rival tablets and/or previous-generation iPads.

MagSafe charging is a possibility for the upcoming iPad Pro models, and the devices will also be accompanied by a refreshed version of the Magic Keyboard that includes a larger trackpad to make the iPad Pro look more like a laptop than the current model, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

New ‌iPad Air‌ and ‌iPad Pro‌ models and accompanying accessories are expected to launch around the end of March, which is also when Apple plans to release iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4. Apple is likely to hold a spring event to introduce the new devices, according to Gurman.

I paid $2,500+ for my last iPad anyway. Not a surprise to me.

Especially when Samsung added OLED to the base 11" Tab S9, which has a similar price to the 11" Pro

If this happens, I'll just pickup the M2 instead. I would've been tempted anyway, but this would make the decision a lot easier
We should be clear that Apple isn’t doing off the shelf OLED here.

Apple will try to justify the price rises, but if the estimates are true I really cant see these being big sellers unless they were to be true laptop replacements and run MacOS
Even if they were true laptop replacements running MacOS, they would still be a horrible deal compared to actual laptops running MacOS.

The worry I have is that Apple's base models tend to have really poor specs with eye watering upgrade costs. That means you might easily be looking at $2k to get a model with specs balanced to its market.

The only way that is happening is if the new (with two size options) Air fills the gap and the new Pro base has the size storage (if not RAM) as the current Pro that sits at that price point. Then Apple can sell the whole thing as an “upgrade”. They aren’t stupid.

Still pretty skeptical about all this.
Face ID and ProMotion: if the Air gets those I’ll be fine with that, and all the different iPad tiers will finally make sense.

The $2,000 figure for the 13-inch model in the latest report could refer to a new, higher storage capacity offered by Apple...
Could help but chuckle while reading the rest of the article, adding to the surprised, not surprised rumoured high price of the new OLED ipad.
Don't expect Apple to be generous in offering higher storage capacity ever without higher prices.
Considering that SSD prices have fallen in the past few years, it is a rip off to continually pay high prices for many Apple products with lower storage capacity.
But lots of Apple lovers won't care as they'll gladly pay for it.

With Apple Silicon Macs, I moved away from the iPad Pro. It was the best mobile computer before that. But with iPad OS, there is very little reason for a lot of folks to choose it over a MacBook, especially at that price. Unless Apple gives the iPad Pro the OS capabilities of a MacBook, it is dead in the water.

Look, I like OLED and all and I don't think this rumor would even be real because of how absurd it is, but if it actually turned out to be true, then I'm just going to get the M2 again.
I returned the M2 iPad in hopes of getting the OLED and M3 upgrade for this year's lineup. But with that price? BIG pass and I think Apple is hella delusional.

Only way they can justify that price is by putting Mac OS on the Pro... and I will buy it day one. Otherwise, nobody is interested in such an overpriced toy limited by ToyOS.

I bet this is the iPad Ultra. No way would Apple bump the only offering that much.

I may bite, but tell you what - that's a 4 or 5 year device then. No upgrading every 2-3 years.

Downpayment on a new car, or another iPad. Hmm. Feels like something the Onion would have published ten years ago.

Well, either I’ll get an older one or go droid (they’re going to have to open their ecosystem with the outcry of governments) No way is anyone paying that much for an iPad. They’re gonna have to sell a strip down version.
