So....
* Ships later than the 22nd
* No Touch ID
* Weird looking notch thing
* $1,000 price tag
* Wireless charger won't be fast charging
* Charger in box is apparently just a standard speed charger
All of the above are obviously rumors, but if they become true then it's really discouraging and make the Note 8 look very appealing.
Don't forget the UGLY camera bump! Frankly, no matter what gimmicks Apple offers such as "digital-lifestyle apps" like iMovie, Clips, GarageBand and their pathetic first-party productivity apps Pages, Keynote, and Numbers I wouldn't be caught dead using this phone. Notes, Reminders, News, FaceTime. User interface rules. Security. Apple Pay. 3D Touch. Just gimmicks.
I don't know anyone who thinks of their phone as a tool-based device. Everyone uses third-party apps and services. This Swiss Army-knife approach to building iOS has been disastrous. Most people game or use social media on their phones. No one is using a phone to do any kind of productivity or lifestyle management. The folks at Apple might use Calendar, Reminders, and Notes for their schedules and the folks at Apple might be the only ones crafting home movies and slide shows with Clips and Photos or laying down rough demos using Music Memos, but frankly, no one else does. A phone is a not a tool, so please, Apple, stop this tool-based approach to your products.
Apple makes something like 50 productivity and creativity apps. Insane waste of time. They could have spent that time on putting Touch ID into the next phone. They could have spent that time on TRUE wireless charging. They could have spent that time making a TRUE bezel-less display. But instead we have that weird-looking notch thing. And a camera bump. Yup, Apple has created a $1,000 phone with a notch and a camera bump. Ugliest phone ever designed.
Oh, what's that? It's how you USE the phone that counts? Please. It's all about how it LOOKS. 3D Touch is a gimmick. The trackpad mode to easily adjust the insertion point in text is a gimmick. What problem is this solving? How does this improve human interface design? Previewing links with a hard press? Quick Actions to app functions? What? Who asked for such a gimmick? In my opinion, even though the new sexy Samsung Galaxy S8 does not have this so-called innovation, it's a more useful device because it has a beautiful display. It doesn't need first-party apps like iMovie or Pages or iBooks or News or Reminders or stupid tech like pressure sensitivity.
But Apple is asking for $1,000 for a phone because of what it can do. Ha. Well. I hope the people who buy it enjoy "doing" stuff with it, but I'll be laughing at it because of the notch and camera bump.
