Uh, thanks for needlessly scaring folks and showing that you have no idea how the power support screen protectors work.

As others have said, they use static cling, not adhesives, to stick to the screens.

sheesh.

I had anti-glare on my original iPhone and a Zagg screen on the 3G I just sold. I'm not thinking of going sans screen since the new one feels right. And it doesn't seem to smudge much either.

Since I am never going without a screen protector on my screen I don't have to worry about the oleophobic protection on it.

Cheers!

And to the guy that wont touch his phone because he is unsure of what to do....get a life dude, the thing cleans up.

i didnt want risk ruining the screen from the sticky part of the screen protector. I read in certain forums that some screen protectors ruin the oleophobic screen. Got that, loser?

 Harsh. Just go without the protector, as some people have said, the screen won't scratch. I've used the power support anti-glare protectors since I've had my 3G and even after a while they start to hold fingerprints and other oils... there really is no way around it.

I have the Powe Support Crystal Film on my 3GS. I did this before I ever touched the screen, just as I did with my other iPhones. As has been mentioned before, they don't use adhesives so no worries there. It applied perfectly with no bubbles or edge separation.

When people say they haven't used a protector in the past and don't have any scratches, it almost strikes me as not getting car insurance because you haven't had any wrecks.

The protector is only $7.50 (2 pack is $15). I've used theold ones for a year each (replaced phone and protector still looked fine). I consider this cheap insurance.

I put the anti-glare film and it looks okay. I made a mistake and reset it and there was no "coat removal" or anything...since the film is static cling.

If you use the phone outside or just anywhere a lot and don't want dust collecting and smudging period, this is a great thing to use. Worth the 15 bucks you spend (and comes with an extra to sell or use later on....they last a long time though.)

Yeah, I just ordered the anti-glare from Power Support. I used it on my 2G and liked that it prevented smudges or fingerprints. Some don't like the way the screen looks after it's applied, but it doesn't bother me enough to not use one at all and go naked. I want the screen protected on my baby!

how does the new coating hold up too screen cleaners? I like to clean my phone screens with rubbing alcohol, and I'm wondering how the coating will hold up to it.

My screen got all smudged up with finger prints. I just bought the anti-glair protector. oily skin ftl

This is from the Power Support site - I spoke with them yesterday and it appears they have addressed the 3G S

PRODUCT OVERVIEW
With the amazing capabilities of the iPhone 3G in the palm of your hand, why let the negative impacts of glare and finger-prints get in the way? Power Support’s Anti-Glare film, is a custom-fit film that will reduce the visual impacts of glare and finger printing while providing scratch protection. Equipped with an advanced static-cling adhesive, installation is easier than ever and will not leave a residue when removed.

A "static cling adhesive" - interesting choice or words.....

I just finished installing the PS anti-glare film on my new 3GS - looks flawless.

I had the PS crystal film on my 3G for over a year now and it has never shown any wear or scratches.... even with the daily wipe-the-grease-off-with-your-jeans treatment.

Thumbs up for PS products.

how does the new coating hold up too screen cleaners? I like to clean my phone screens with rubbing alcohol, and I'm wondering how the coating will hold up to it.

Because of the coating, I WOULD NOT ADVISE cleaning with rubbing alcohol. That is a pretty harsh chemical.

If you really have to do that-- put a screen protector on it, and clean all you like

From the moment I peeled off the 3GS sticky out the box I applied my PS Crystal and I've been on my 3GS all day and the crystal is perfect.
I've had the crystal on my 3G for the previous 9 months with not a single problem either.
Both my kids Touches have crystal on them too so I now have 4 iDevices using PS crystal protection. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

i was at the apple store today on 5th avenue and the reps there were advising everyone who was looking at screen protectors not to buy them for the 3gs. They said that they were given information buy corporate HQ that indeed some screen protectors could possibly damage the oleographic screen while trying to remove. I am now using my phone with a case and no screen protector.

Keep in mind that damage to glass coatings takes months if not more to show up.

I'm in the same boat. The coating on the new screen is a FEATURE and I'm going to take advantage of it. And I'll be DAMNED it actually works. I barely have ANY marks on my phone after texting or opening my phone with the slider. Way to go Apple! :) I guess they realized we're all kinda anal about our phones and wanted to give us some help. Now I'm just rocking the matte black Incase slider case and naked screen! :)

I've had my 3G for a year with no screen protector, and there's not a single scratch on the screen. Granted I'm careful not to put anything in the same pocket as the phone, and I've never dropped it face-down. But I sure am happy to be able to use my phone without a screen protector, because the screen just looks and feels much nicer in its natural state.

I had a series of plastic-screened phones before this, and put protectors on all of them of course. But I always hated the slight distortion to the screen image, the bubbles, and the wear and tear. I don't miss any of those things.

I've used my 1st gen iPhone without a screen protector for two years, from launch day until getting my 3G S today, and have never had a problem with scratches of any kind. I keep it in my pants pocket and just make sure that nothing else goes in that pocket. It's been pretty easy to keep it scratch free. I love the coating on the 3G S and wouldn't want to cover it.

My wife has had the same experience with her 1st gen iPhone without a screen protector and she throws that thing in her damn purse.

It isn't. I have it and the Power Support. Not sure where the other guy got his info.

I just looked at the screen protectors that came with the SwitchEasy Colors. And the words "Adhesive side" is right on the screen protector as a little tab sticker. So now I am not sure whether to use that screen protector or not.

Ugh. Maybe I just don't use a screen protector at all.

"Will the adhesive properties of the Power Support (or whatever brand you use) protector harm the oleophobic coating? That is the question - think of the HORROR of peeling off the protector after 6 - 9 months to replace it ONLY to find damage / blemishes / peeling of the coating."

Quoted from your post. Cleaning film != protector. Nowhere did you state concern for the cleaning of the screen.

stop making people as equally paranoid as you appear to be

YOU DO NOT have to use the adhesive cleaning film. As long as your screen is perfectly clean you can apply the protectors ( i work in the bathroom when I install any shield/screen protectors)

I put on my PS anti-glare today, and it's well worth it. The oleophobic screen wasn't enough for fingerprints and build-up. That + Incase slider = complete protection. Oh, and I didn't even use that adhesive sticker to take the dust off before applying the protector, I just wiped it down. I HIGHLY doubt this protector is going to take off the coating on the screen.

I've been using the 3GS in the Contour Showcase and *no* screen protector this time around. Thus far, I'm very impressed with the 3GS screen. My microfiber cloth cleans up the screen quickly and easily. Apple did a great job with the oleophobic coating. I have no plans to put a protector on the 3GS screen. The feel to the touch is superb. I wouldn't want to ruin it with a protector.
