I'm in the camp of putting on a screen protector. I went naked with my 3G and was very careful with it, but even after the first week I already had 2 scratches in it. Never knew where it came from but accidents will happen and any extra layer of protection is good. I put a crystal screen protector on my 3GS and feel more secure using it and pulling it from my pocket, etc.

not read the whole thread but i would be worried if I applied something "sticky" to the screen take it off and half the olesophic or whatever coating comes off!

be careful guys

I would never use the Invisible Shield or similar protector on the 3Gs screen. I know people that damaged their camera using these protectors on the rear LCD. Big expense. The anti reflective coating came off with the protector.

I put the power support anti glare on my 3Gs and it seems perfect. Very simple to put on (as opposed to the IS type). Here is the secret for those using a case such as the Incase slider: Leave the case on when you apply the protector!! Goes on in a snap and you will never have an edge lifting. Seems like the best solution to me.

Well since Apple sells them on Apple.com and they claim: "This accessory is compatible with iPhone 3G and 3G S" (note: phone are images)

It is now just a personal choice rather than a "ooh, it might not be compatible with new iPhone 3G S Oleophobic Screen coating to prevent fingerpints and hand oil from sticking on the screen.

I would always recommend a screen protect and the PCS is a very good one...remember this...it's always better to be save than sorry...

Well my 2G iphone was great and resisted scratches.

I got the new 3GS this weekend and by accident I placed it in my pocket with a lighter and the screen scratches, trust me! They are not bad scratches but you can see and feel them all over the front of my new 3GS.

I wonder since most people say their screen never scratch if they would exchange this one for a new one?

too nice....

Used the film overlay for both the 2g and 3g from Casemate's hard leather case.

Just can't do it with this one. The film cover that is, as the Casemate hard leather case for AT&T is still in such great shape from the time with the 3g it's still going strong.

The screen feels so nice with this one. I don't know what it is but the response feels a bit smoother, especially on the iPod control for volume and just overall. Somehow the texture of the glass itself even feels velvety and smooth.

Don't know how but it is and we are going 3GS naked.

It's strange - the Apple site has the Power Support Crystal listed as compatible with the 3G and the 3G S, but the Anti-Glare says it's only compatible with the 3G.

I put a Switcheasy screen protector that came with my awesome Capsule Rebel case on my new 3GS and it worked just fine. I even peeled it off a couple times to set it correctly. I rocked it a couple of days and then removed it because I let too much dust underneath it when I readjusted the protector. My now naked screen is absolutely fine, no damage to the coating.. the oleophobic screen is doing its job great keeping fingerprints/smudges to a minimum with a few quick wipes with my trusty microfiber.

I ordered some PS Crystal Films with some new cases and accessories I bought off the apple store and I'm gonna slap on a crystal film as soon as it gets to me. I've seen my friends' iPhones get hairline scratches all over their screens that they don't mind but personally drive me crazy. I plan on keeping my 32gb 3G S well protected and in great condition so I can sell it later on down the line. The thought of dropping my phone on the hard ground or having it rub against keys or whatever in my pocket that I forgot to take out makes me uneasy.

Rock the screen naked if you like it because the oleophobic screen does do an awesome job with keeping fingerprints away and easy to clean. I'll miss that a bit but the peace of mind I get just having a little extra layer of protection far outweighs the benefits of the oil resistant screen.

Anyways, good luck with your new phones guys. I'm really loving mine so far :D

i used to use the antiglare film set from powersupport, only to cut down on glare and fingerprints.

I forgot just how much more vibrant the screen is without the film.

I'm going to go naked on the screen for the 3GS. Fingerprints wipe off cleanly and easily and the colors are so much nicer

The anti-glare screen isn't that great. Go for the Crystal film -- looks just like glass, and felt pretty much the same as the older 2G/3G iPhones did.

I'm still debating -- I used my iPhone 2G for over a year with no film, and by the end it only had one (slightly visible) scratch.

But I really love the new coating -- every time I rub it against my shirt it looks brand spanking new =\

I don't have a screen protector or case of any kind on my 3gs and i don't plan on getting one. I'm careful with my things and when the phone is in my pocket i have nothing else in there with it. Cases take away from the phones design and it seems the screen unprotected seems to stay pretty scratch resistant.

The new coating on the screen repels fingerprints really well, i rarely have finger smudges on my screen and a simple wipe from my shirt will take off whatever is there.

I used an Invisible Shield product on my 32gb iPod Touch from a recent trip to the states. Suffice to say, I hated it. Made the whole thing feel shrink wrapped, and has a horrible pvc feeling to it.

Will revert back to Power Support I think...

I recommend the bodyguardz for the front, it protects against scratches and falls + scratches repair themselves, and it has a lot less grip than the IS/BSE shields

the power support shields are good, but once you scratch them, the scratches do not repair themselves the way the Bodyguardz / invisible shield ones do.

The oleophobic does work but i just couldn't leave my screen bare like that. Must have a protector

So do we know for sure if we can put on a protector on the oleophobic screen? If so, which one's are okay and which are not okay? I bought the Steinheil Anti-Fingerprint protector but now I think I wasted my money because it uses an adhesive and is not static cling.

Static based protectors = good
Adhesive based protectors = bad
