That sucks man. I'm sorry. I hope it all gets sorted.
I don't agree with you in tha you are going to wait for Apple to sort it all. Call the shipping company and let them know what happen. Make them look into it. If anything this should make things get solved much faster.
Anyway, that's just my opinion.

Man, this sucks :-(

Unfortunately, the only way you'll be able to get your money back (or a new MBP, for that matter) is to file a police report and have your insurance company pay for it. If you don't have one, you're out of luck.

The second you signed for the package, the package was yours and neither TNT nor Apple are legally obliged to care. If you're lucky, Apple will send you another one because they're being nice - but they sure don't have to.

i sure hope you filed a police report and contacted the shipping company and apple as soon as it happen. the longer you wait to report it, the less believable it will be. i hope it works out for ya.

those sons of bitches, i would cut their hands for you and slap their faces with them!!!! i hate people like that! listen! i am really sorry about what happened and hope everything goes well with apple! let us know what happens!! good luck, my friend, i feel for you!!!!!

This sucks. I would die if this happened to me. Sorry mate.

Has anyone ever read the note you sign on delivery. I've actually never sat down and read the intire thing...
Anyone here know what you are signing for? Is it the condition of the package, the condition of the product, the quantity of products/packages, or even all the above?

EDIT: I'm sure you'll get a new computer though. Apple usually provides great customer service, and it would not be the first time that they have resolved customer-issues that they were not legally responsible for.

Uh, I just wanted to write this too.

Do yourself a favor, and contact TNT as soon as possible. Packages and/or products disappearing while in the hand of a carrier, is one of the thing that can most severely damage the carriers reputation. While your case alone is not enough to damage the reputation of the intire TNT concern, I'm sure they will take it very seriously, and possible provide you with some form of compensation.

Also note, that if they have a thief somewhere in your local TNT department, it might not be the first time something like this have happened. If you call them, it might help their internal investigation, and possible prevent things like this from happening for someone else.

Update

Really appreciate everyone's kind words. There is a major lesson in this. As far as I'm concerned signing for a package just means you've received it...as in the box. As if any courier is going to want to wait around while you unpack it and inspect the product. However, if signing actually means you now accept responsibility for whatever is (or ISN'T) in the package then perhaps we all should open it right in front of the driver BEFORE signing squat.

Do you all want to know just how incredible Apple is? On my word and photos alone they ordered me a replacement machine right from the get-go. I got the call & email this afternoon...and the investigation has just begun! I feared at worst, due to my signature, I very well could have been hanging in the wind indefinitely before getting any kind of action or answers. Apple is taking care of me FIRST while moving ahead towards solving this fiasco w/ TNT. I guess I'm going to be left out of the picture but I sure would like to know how it turns out and who is responsible for this. Hell I'd like to get my mitts on the scumbag!

This is a major life lesson and I hope others out there can benefit from it and not let this happen to you. Odds are probably 1 in 10,000 that it will but why take the chance. Surely there must be a way for Apple to seal the box in a way that if tampered with is undeliverable by the courier company? Obviously a generic brown cardboard box done up in packing tape isn't enough to slip by the unscrupulous out there.

This just adds to the incredible way Apple has treated me through this whole ordeal...If I wasn't living this I don't even know if I'd believe it. With all the problems from the get-go its been jinxed. Murphy's Law definitely applies. If this was any typical corporation I'm sure it would be an all out nightmare for me but Apple has done everything in their power to smooth it over and mission accomplished. I don't have a single bad thing to say about Apple in this whole screwed up mess. On top of ordering me a new machine mere hours after the Cardboard Pro arrived, the person helping me through this is going to personally monitor it all the way here to Sydney and call me when it arrives. Beautiful!

Wow. That's so amazing. This is how Apple treats their customers. Congratulations. Are they going to use the same shipping company this time or go with another one, if it's even an option?

Hehehe... Cardboard Pro... Apples new lighter than "Air" laptop :D

I'm sorry you had to go through that, but glad it worked out!

On the side, does anyone know the 'official' rules about the signature? I always thought I received the package... not that the package was acceptable. I've never known anyone to open a package in front of the carrier. I'd be interested in what it really is.

Glad to hear things are working out for you.

Kudos to Apple on that too!

Actually I have no idea to be honest. This all happened so fast, what a whirlwind day. I received an email & phone call just before the person's shift was over...she wanted to touch bases w/ me before going home...and wow do I ever appreciate that! I don't think I would have slept a wink tonight otherwise.
I don't even have an order number to track it so for all I know they're air-lifting the thing here w/ Navy Seals. She said it might take a couple of days since its BTO but I'd receive a call as soon as it arrived in Sydney.

Great that things worked out! I'm glad they trusted you rather than doubt you. Even though you had picture 'proof' they could have easily said you removed it and then took photos.

My dad owns a chain of photographic stores up here in Canada and is also an Apple reseller. I have worked in the warehouse, and received Apple products... Apple do have such a method, it's their own tape that is marked with some phrase suggesting that if the tape has been cut, the product has been tampered with. The problem is that often a courier will find it more cost-efficient to simply load/unload boxes as necessary, and not spend time inspecting every box. Even if they have to deal with issues like this in the end, they have saved money due to the time it would take to thoroughly inspect tops and bottoms of every box. As a reseller, it's difficult, as we have to talk to the courier drivers and ask them if they would mind sticking around while we inspect the boxes, as likely their companies have been negligent in this manner.

The driver put it on the ground? Dollars to donuts he's the one who stole it.

Yea those guys will toss, kick and step on your package when your not looking. But they tend to be more careful when their at your front door with you standing right their.

Apple is truly great, if they resolved this for you within 24 hours. That is so cool of them.

Any suspicion and I would have not signed of it. I live my Fed Ex guy. He used to play football (soccer) in the Ukraine and would run down the street with my Mc Pro screaming "What the hell is this thing, it's heavy". He would always double check before he left that everything was good. UPS I have less luck.

Scary... Sorry to hear that. On the other hand, I am so impressed by apple customer service. Never heard anything like this happened. But I will for sure take extra caution next time I receive a expensive package.

dude that is great news! apple pisses me off sometimes, but so far i am 2 for 2 on replacements by them(MM and battery.) their customer service is first rate, sometimes you have to go that extra mile to convince them, but they are great.

Well looking back it was suspicious. If the computer was in the box I doubt I would have given it a second thought. Trust me, I've waited sooo long for this (due to a complicated move & other factors) I couldn't wait to sign and get that baby open. Caught up in the moment he could have been wearing a Bozo the Clown costume & it would have been weird but I'd have been ok with it. Looking back it would definitely seem suspicious.
