Do you all want to know just how incredible Apple is? On my word and photos alone they ordered me a replacement machine right from the get-go. I got the call & email this afternoon...and the investigation has just begun! I feared at worst, due to my signature, I very well could have been hanging in the wind indefinitely before getting any kind of action or answers. Apple is taking care of me FIRST while moving ahead towards solving this fiasco w/ TNT. I guess I'm going to be left out of the picture but I sure would like to know how it turns out and who is responsible for this. Hell I'd like to get my mitts on the scumbag

Write Apple an actual letter and mail it to them, stating just how amazing they have been and make sure to praise whoever helped you on the phone.

Very true. We need to make sure those who excel at their jobs get some praise.

It reminds me of my days working retail. I had customers who had a really good time while I was checking them out to go to my manager and tell her I deserved a raise. I never got one, but it was fun!

Wow! I'm sorry this happened to you. Hope you can get everything worked out and get a replacement.

I'm glad to hear this all worked out in the end.

I'm hating on couriers lately - particularly AAE. I bought something online (not Apple related unfortunately) and paid a little extra for priority "guaranteed" next day delivery. It's been 3 days and I still haven't got it.

Wow. This is amazing. Good thing Apple didn't leave you in the cold and void of $2000. I never knew these things happened and at first I found your story a bit far-fetched, but thanks for the heads up. I'll be more careful in the future.

glad to hear that apple stepped up and took care of you.

it is really to apple's advantage that they make registering their products so much a part of getting the product working. also helps that you can just put in your apple account info and it will fill in all the blanks for you.

this helped me when i worked at Circuit ****** and we ad several ipod touches (sp?) (when they were new) come up missing. i was able to pull the serial #s off the box that they were shipped to us in and called apple. they gave me the names that the ipods were registered to and all but 1 were employees.

i bet this is one of the steps that they will be taking to resolve the case of your missing laptop.

Glad it all worked out Ok for you in the end, i expect someone else has mentioned it but couriers ( at least here in the UK ) have a "NOT CHECKED" box on the forms they give you to sign, OP i know you probably excited and all that but it would have saved allot of worry. Anyway like i said I'm glad it turned out all good & Apple seems to have pulled through on this occasion

Man I don't care how impatient the damn courier is...I'm checking my packages thoroughly from now on.

the problem is, they usually don't allow you to open the package without signing for it :-/

Some companies will put seals on the packages - and add a note that if the seal's broken, you shouldn't accept the package. Apple doesn't AFAIK.

I'm surprised that no one has stated the obvious, the courier will not hand you the package until you have signed for it.

Was the box resealed? I imagine your first thought was, "wow, this computer is light". It sounds like Apple is considering you first and will investigate the path that the package took. As was stated previously, the serial number will pop up somewhere and may implicate someone involved in the shipping. We hear a lot about that during the holidays, don't we?

Thats actually really good news. This experience has been gut wrenching to say the least & I really hope they catch the scum who did this. These are dip***** not brain surgeons so I'm confident they'll screw up & get busted sooner or later.

Not sure if there was an option...lately I've been signing on digital tablets, do they have the "not checked" box on them?

Some people have said that once I signed for it I was legally responsible for the 'successfully delivered product' and both the courier & Apple were legally off the hook. Not that I take my legal advice from a rumors forum or anything; but that would be illegal of both those parties if what you say is true and the courier won't let you open it before signing. Thats blackmail in a way..."sorry, you can't inspect it w/o signing it...ooooohhh too bad, there's nothing there...oh well its *your* loss since y ou signed for it! hahahah"

Trust me, it was far-fetched for ME too
Here's some photos of what broke my heart into a hundreds of millions of pixelated pieces. The last one shows where they tore the tape off the sticker causing a bit of the bar code to come off before putting the replacement tape overtop. Other than the bar code coming off they did a decent job making the box look like nothing was tampered with.

Cant imagine myself in this situation!!!!

Trust me, neither did I. THIS is the reason I don't touch eBay, never thought it could happen through a company like Apple. :(

Get the police involved if you haven't already. Parcels that go over state lines are federal jurisdiction. Maybe something can come of it.

I think thats Apple's call at this point. They already told me not to contact the courier about the matter and that they'd deal with it. I never thought of involving the police but ya I'll contact Apple and ask them if they'd like me to do so. Apple's already taken care of my end so I might be out of the picture now. Definitely like to know how this story unfolds although I suspect I'm not going to get told anything from here on in.

Boy, I thought Apple's customer service was amazing before,* but this takes it to a whole new level! Really impressive on their part, not that many companies are so efficient.

*My dad and I made a mistake when ordering mine- he's a teacher and I'm a student, but we accidentally didn't order through the educational store. So he called them up, explained what happened, and they credited us the $200 we would have saved by ordering through the educational store. I was really impressed, and very relieved!

Wow, seeing those pictures makes the whole story all the more heart-breaking and unbelievable (as in 'How could anyone do this!?!?!'). I don't know what I would do in our situation. I would probably be speechless.

They should finger print the box ;)

hah yah huh? But I guess it probably passed through many hands.

Anyway I am glad our brother had his case taken care by Apple. But given myself in this... Boy!! Ya know one will definitely be so excited and anxious waiting for the gadget to arrive, and when it comes, the adrenaline pumped up!! But when ya open up the box and realised that its EMPTY!???

OMG... that feeling is like being sucked into a vortex filled with thousand knives!!!

I ordered the previous version MBP 2.5GHz, 512 MB & 4GB ram new on the clearance site from Apple.com for $1600. I ordered it last thursday at 3pm, and they shipped it THAT night from Sacramento. It was supposed to be at my place on Saturday between 11am-1130am. I was tracking it, and the fedex driver posted on the website (tracking) that "customer not home/business closed". My girlfriend was home all day and didnt hear anyone knock. There was no note left on the door stating i missed a package. SO i called fedex and let them know that i didnt get my packaged and that it said i wasnt home. Well an hour later i get a call from the local Fedex depot saying that the driver would swing back by, that he had the wrong package. Sure enough at 5pm, i get a knock on the door. I didnt check the package either, and signed for it and he was done.

It worked out for me, but i didnt check the box (which is not a smart idea) and it kinda is unsettling that fedex wasnt going to come back that day. If it says it was attempted delivery, there would be something sort of notification. I wonder if he got into trouble...

On a side note, i think for high end dollar stuff, they should check id. All the driver said was, "are you Dustin?". I signed. If he went to a neighbors or something, they'd have a free MBP.

glad everything worked out for you!
