3.13 is ancient, 2 generations old now, and honestly I think it's well within the realm of acceptibility for Apple to disable new downloads. I mean, the vast majority of new apps require at least iOS4 anyway. If this needs to happen to make the appstore more efficient for everyone and enable new features, this is fine. Sure, some people will be pissed, but I think it's a very small minority of ACTIVE iPhone users who are still stuck on iOS3. Also, whats with that screenshot? I've never seen that textured look before.

I'm pretty sure the "vast majority" of apps are designed to run on all versions of iOS, unless they're graphically intensive. That way developers are sure they're offering their apps to as many users as possible.

Thanks for posting a problem that I have been having for months now. I contact Apple but they just tell me to restore my iPhone 4 that fixes it but a few days later problem is back

This is for pre iOS 4 devices. If your iphone 4 does that through restores, you need to have it replaced.

I think I want to go kill myself now.

BTW, first-gen iPhone in my hand, unlocked/jailbroken on T-Mobile with 3.1.3 and I just downloaded Jetpack Joyride with no problem. I can not, however, update apps it seems.

Same. iTunes "updates" gives an alert "Unable to Connect to iTunes".

Clicking on an App to buy gives me a bunch of html code gibberish. Then none of my apps work - have to restart the phone....

:(

What's the point of buying apps on-device with an old iPhone/iPod Touch anyway? Mine 2nd gen iPod Touch so damn slow it's nearly impossible to scroll through a list, and typing in a super-secure password with lowercase & uppercase letters and numbers is a pain. I buy everything through iTunes since it's so annoying to browse for apps on the device itself.

The black texture in the screen shot is the result of a theme, not a change on Apple's part. That's likely a jailbroken iPhone 2G that's been unlocked for USA T-Mobile.

I dont know.
I'm on a 1st Gen ipod touch 32gb. I still use it and it works PERFECLTY. Bought it at launch. To be fair to apple, the only device i've ever owned that has been rock solid perfect since the day i brought it out of the box (If i just jinxed it, i'm going to cry)

This scares me, as I have no upgrade option to 4 without buying a new device.

I have encountered a lot more recently when trying to get some free apps, errors telling me that i need iOS4 or higher to run. simple app's that i never imagined would be that dependant on the OS, like a remote mouse controller for OSx, or the latest Angry birds update.

Looks like a winter board theme to me. Notice the "T-Mobile"? They're jailbroken.

Winterboard theme.

My bad I wasn't thinking internationally. Still think it's a winterboard theme though. And wouldn't the tabs be auf Deutsch if it was in Germany?

I have an original iPhone, and for the past 4 months I've been unable to update any of my apps on my phone. The only thing that works is that if you hit "Update All" and do them all together. Any help for me?

I can confirm hat this the app store is broken on my iPod touch 1st generation. And to the people that say I should upgrade, I ask you, why? Before the app store broke I had a perfectly capable device that could run most non graphics intensive apps. Almoast everything I needed was available for 3.1.3 and ran fine for my needs. I don't understand why I should pay to upgrade something that already does what I want fine. It is a waste of money.

Users are reportedly having difficulty convincing Apple support staff that the issue on Apple's end, with support staff so far only suggesting a range of potential solutions that could help address device issues but which have proven unsuccessful for affected users.

This is classic Apple support staff arrogance. They are very reluctant to ever acknowledge the problem is at the iTunes store.

The vast majority of new and recently updated apps are only designated to run on older OS versions with which the developer has actually tested on a device that runs that OS. This includes even simple, non-graphical, apps, as they might use a few of the newer APIs not available in iOS 3.x.

Many smaller developers do not have an old enough device, or no longer take the time to drag out and test on their old iOS 3.x device. Or many just want to use one of the newer OS features.

Thus the increasing number of apps that require at least 4.1, or even 5.0 or later.

Look at the screen shot. And then look at the app store on your phone. They don't look the same. The tab controller at the bottom is textured differently. So is the navigation controller.

Tab bar controller is an iOS object. Highly doubt an appstore UI change (which is basically a web page within an app) would effect the tab bar controller)

Yep, It appears to be working properly… I was even able to install Sonic CD… Last week, the "Buy" button wouldn't change…

That is a winter board theme… i just downloaded Ninja Fishing and I saw none of that…
