I find the mechanical aspect of lightning superior to USB-C. The latter is not as reliable.
I don't think an adapter satisfies the EU requirement.
Consumers: Oh no, I have to upgrade to another standard?
Apple: Don't worry guys, we've got you covered. It's all about that "Dongle Life"!
Apple should use ONLY standards like USB and Thunderbolt.
You are correct comrade.Companies aren't very good at regulating themselves.. if it costs money they'll ignore the issues, or not implement proper solutions.
Middle Earth was fiction.
I find the mechanical aspect of lightning superior to USB-C. The latter is not as reliable.
Didn't they say that Lightning was going to be their connection for the next ten years when they introduced it?
People keep saying this, and I'm confused. You folks do realize that TB 3 is on the new MBPs, right? It just happens to share a form factor with USB type C, like TB 1 and 2 shared a form factor with mini displayport. Right? We understand that Apple hasn't abandoned thunderbolt like, at all?
Um... yeah. That's true. It's also unrelated to my point, which is that Apple has not in any way "abandoned" thunderbolt just because someone else decided to change the form factor of the port.If you have thunderbolt 1 or 2 wire, you try to stick it in new MBP '16 , it doesn't go in. You need to buy adapter.
If you you have USB-A like the puck mouse on the original iMac form 1998, you still can stick it in and use it on all USB-A (Even 3.) ports.
Seriously? I don't know too many blogs that actually post the source of the information, since the information can come from multiple sources.. You may think Wall Street Journal, but they could have just as easily got it from some buddy's Wordpress blog..
That's even worse if they're just sourcing random Wordpress blogs...
Also, here's a great example form Engadget for how to cite multiple sources. It's not rocket science.

EU says it must be USB-C to USB-C. But national lays have to implement the directive. That is before july 2020. The most country's can do that this year. The first year that it is a mandate is 2019 in some country's. The last is 2021. Apple can not sell after that date a USB-C to lightning dongle. It must be in the box if they use lightning. The reason is that you buy 1 loader and 1 cable for a phone, tablet, pc/mac etc and it is not in the box anymore.
Edit:
There is 1 non EU country (Swiss) but who use the EU rules were USB-C is a mandate in 2018.
