Definitely going to stop reading if you guys keep ripping off news like this without linking to the source

Seriously? I don't know too many blogs that actually post the source of the information, since the information can come from multiple sources.. You may think Wall Street Journal, but they could have just as easily got it from some buddy's Wordpress blog..

Historically, the American experiment was to have as little as possible mandated by the government. It was/is thought that industry was best left to figure out what they thought was best and have the market place decide what is best for how people live their life. Of course there are safety standards etc. so that there is a flow to society but we Mac/iPhone users wouldn't be happy if majority ruled and we lived by how Android decided the connectivity standards along with MS running on all PCs. The best usually wins in the long run but government mandates slow the progress toward that end. While at times it can be inconvenient, I perfer our traditional role of less government mandates.
What about outlawing the use of certain toxic chemicals? Where do you side on this issue?

If the (Mac)rumors are all in a tizzy about a port, then there isn't really much differentiation between phone models, is there?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that explicitly violates the USB–C spec for power delivery. Creating fire hazards in the name of standards. Sheesh...

If Apple were listening, they would have introduced USB-C instead of the Lightning port in the first place!
Wow, that's some serious revisionist history. You do know that Lightning preceded USB–C? And that USB–C got a reversible plug/socket explicitly because Lightning had it and people preferred that?

Very weirdly/vaguely phrased. Is it going to be USB-C on both ends (i.e, replacing both lightning and USB-A ends), or just lightning to USB-C? To be clear, I'm all for it, but it seems rather unlikely considering the peripherals (e.g. Airpods and recent Beats wireless headphones) were released with lightning chargers.

We will get an adapter and EU law demands one. Other than that lightning remains, it's a $ spinner for apple.

Did you read my entire reply post? I clearly addressed that issue.

I prefer more government intervention, as businesses never have the environment or helping their customers best interests as a priority
Of course you can have your preferences but I would argue that Apple is very environmentally conscious. As far as businesses not having their customers best interests in mind then they won't have customers and they won't have a business much longer. Alienating your customers is a sure way of going out of business.

Apple already complies with European legislation so that's a load of crap!

The Wall Street Journal today reported that at least one upcoming iPhone model will include a USB-C port instead of a Lightning connector.

If the report is accurate, a single USB-C cable could be used to charge the so-called iPhone 8, 12-inch MacBook, or the latest MacBook Pro models. That's not a rumor we've heard previously, but The Wall Street Journal is a reputable source that often accurately predicts Apple's plans.

Nevertheless, the move towards USB-C has yet to be substantiated by other credible sources, and Apple changing the charging port on iPhones for the second time in five years, after switching from the 30-pin Dock Connector to Lightning connector in 2012, would certainly be a controversial decision.

At least one analyst is not convinced that Apple will ditch Lightning on its next iPhones, but he does believe USB-C will be in the mix.

Barclays managing director Blayne Curtis told MacRumors that he expects the iPhone 8 to keep its Lightning connector, while he believes that Apple will sell a Lightning to USB-C adapter in European countries to adhere to the European Commission's "one mobile phone charger for all" campaign.

This adapter could be similar to Apple's female-to-male Lightning to Micro-USB adapter, which allows an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with a Lightning connector to charge and sync with a Micro-USB cable. Apple sold a similar 30-pin Dock Connector to Micro-USB adapter in Europe to adhere to EU policy.

Why don't we have campaigns like this here in the US?:(

It would be nice just having 1 cable that does it all. I'm sure someone in here will prove me wrong though. . . .o_O

Because government never knows best but freedom and markets always do.

They wouldn't be Apple if they did.
And that's why I hate them more and more every day.

Lightning connector? Fine. 30 pin sucked anyway.

Crappy battery life? Eh... it's ok. And look how thin it is!

Same, boring, bloated iOS? ... yes... but... it's easy to use?

Camera bumps? Ok that's just plain ugly. But at least it isn't as ugly as the battery case.

Removal of headphone jack? Really. Removal of headphone jack. And you dare say it's courageous.

2016 MacBook Pro? <emoji doesn't work here. But it was brilliant)

Give me one reason to stay here, Apple. Just one. And no. Overpriced AirPods or some incremental iPad isn't going to cut it.:/

If you can't find a reason for yourself, nobody else is going to persuade you to stay. Apple can't serve anyone. If you think their products no longer meet your needs, then like you said, maybe it's time you started looking at other alternatives.

I am seeing a marked degree of 'WTF' from Apple.

Slide to unlock. Gone. Yet they are continuing to sue other vendors with that feature.
Lightning connector. Awesome answer to the midnight 'WTF moment' of trying to plug in your device to charge it. I did manage to get something with a USB-C port to plug in upside down once. Bad design in their part, and cheap connector, but...

And I'm sure there are other incidents, but these stand out to me right now.

What is going on in Cupertino? It seems that Apple has lost their rudder. They seem to be drifting in many directions, with the only discernible path being against everything that was awesome. Magsafe - gone. Lightning - gone. Slide to unlock - gone. Why?

Apple abandoned CD, HDMI, Ethernet, USB-A, SD card ports, headphone jacks, firewire, and thunderbolt...
what makes you think they will not abandon lightening?

Tim Cook said USB C is the future and pushed it so hard that its the only port on MBP 2016. I totally see them abandoning lightening

Companies aren't very good at regulating themselves.. if it costs money they'll ignore the issues, or not implement proper solutions.

Historically, the American experiment was to have as little as possible mandated by the government. It was/is thought that industry was best left to figure out what they thought was best and have the market place decide what is best for how people live their life. Additionally, be careful of what you wish for… one ring to rule them all wasn't so good for Middle Earth.

Middle Earth was fiction.

People keep saying this, and I'm confused. You folks do realize that TB 3 is on the new MBPs, right? It just happens to share a form factor with USB type C, like TB 1 and 2 shared a form factor with mini displayport. Right? We understand that Apple hasn't abandoned thunderbolt like, at all?

They could have done something to change that.

No, it would ruin the whole experience if you had to worry about your microusb cable snapping off at the connector, which I have seen way more times that I can to admit to.

They didn't abandon Thunderbolt.. Are you on drugs? They upgraded to the latest Thunderbolt 3, that as a standard used the USB C port.. As for the rest of it, who cares, that's why god created the desktop dock..
