FaceID is impressive technology, but isn't particularly well suited for many situations I find myself in, where I need to subtly and quickly unlock my phone (without holding it up to my face). The inclusion of TouchID would make me significantly more likely to upgrade. Otherwise, I'll cling to my 8 Plus as long as possible.

I’m lost. So you are changing to the next song or you are changing to a completely different app or something? So from an arms length away, you unlock without looking at it, then you select another app without looking at it, then you scroll down to another band or something without looking at it, and then select the song or album you want without looking at it. All because we can’t pick up the phone. Seems a bit weird/impossible to me.

I look at it... just glance over, but my face is out of range of FaceID. I don't see why this is so hard to grasp. Typically I am changing to a different album or a different podcast.

I’ve enjoyed my time with the iPhone and as an owner since the original I’ll miss it when I move on. That’ll be next year when my X starts exhibiting signs of battery fatigue. I’ll stick with them if they return to some kind of fingerprint sensor, otherwise I’m out. FaceID is just too inconvenient.
Well Newsflash.. all the other major manufacturers are going to a face biometric as well

So just pull the phone closer to you? I don't think it's as big of a deal as people make it out to be, but whatever you prefer.

“You’re using it wrong.”

FaceId doesn’t work naturally in the way you are using it. Your face generally has to be parallel to the screen and directly in front.

Maybe it's hard to believe but I sure hope to heck that it's true. Face ID just sucks. It fails frequently requiring typing in the code often.

It increases the number of steps taken to do Apple Pay. You often in practice actually have to look at the phone, tap then look at the phone again, then double tap the side button and some times even have to repeat looking at the phone, when before it was an easy single step, with one hand, you tapped the screen with your thumb on the button and go.

The idea that Face ID is more secure than Touch ID is just pure B.S. nonsense. There is no good evidence for that being true.

Almost everyday, I find myself typing in the code rather than put up with the flakiness of Face ID.

Apple, I miss Touch ID. It doesn't even have to be under the screen, just admit that Face ID is a failure and but the Touch ID on the back of the phone like some Android phones have done.
Face ID works perfectly for me. Even with sunglasses, darkness, or even looking st the device from an off angle.

Face ID is more secure. Touch ID has a 1 in 30,000 chance of being spoofed where Face ID is about 1 in a million if I remember correctly.

I would hardly call Face ID a failure. It’s more advanced than Touch ID. Even more advanced than gimmicky in screen FPS.

There are also accessibility settings that you can change so that you can activate Face ID without requiring attention.

Not accurate, as least with the XS.
I agree. I can unlock looking at my phone from an off angle.
