Lion is the first piece of software that i actually bought legally, i mean seriously a whole operating system for 30$? why torrent it? you're probably going to run into trouble updating it anyway

I find it amazing that some people feel justified in stealing software. I write software for a living. Do you think that people write software for charity? I guess you feel that the hard work and creative energy that people put into designing and writing software should not get paid. People like yourself need to spend some time in jail so that maybe you would have a clearer understanding of what it means to steal.

I really wish Apple would require people to supply a valid serial number before anyone could buy an Apple OS upgrade. How would these same people, that steal software, feel if their bank account was hacked and money was stolen from them.

The fact that you admitted that you steal software tells me that you think stealing is okay and you condoned it. There is nothing cool or justified about depriving people of their livelihood.

Great performance

I am one of the 1 million that bought and downloaded. It was blazingly fast to download even in Australia. Haven't installed yet as I want to double-check my backups first.

Will give it a go tonight. My primary target is my Mac Mini. I primarily use iTunes , VLC and the DVD player at the moment for media, but occasionally used Front Row mainly since it launches with the remote. Anyone got any suggestions for what to install in place of Front Row?

I agree call the FBI - everyone who just admitted to it is totally trackable and Macrumors HAS to turn over the info!!!

Let's see. News is that Apple sold over a million copies of Lion in 24 hours. Your first post is to recommend downloading illegal copies. Your second post compares Lion to the biggest flop in operating system history and insults Apple's engineers and implicitly anyone buying it.

So answer me this: Are you trolling because you are just a nasty person, or is it some weird insecurity that makes you behave this way?

Lol It's just my point of view, about torrents... some people have problems with mac app store so they downloaded it on this way.
If i don't like lion i'm a troll or insecure person???
Man, you need some help.

The real value of Snow Leopard, and now of Lion, is deep hidden inside. There was lots of stuff in Snow Leopard that makes life easier for software developers; there is more of that in Lion, and in addition Lion has very important security features. Developers can use these features when users have the operating system installed. With the price of $29 both for Snow Leopard and for Lion, I assume that adoption will be quick, and that anyone not paying for the new OS will not be paying for new software, so software developers need not care about these people. In about November the Mac Apple Store will only accept new software that supports the Lion security features. So if you don't upgrade, you will be left behind quite soon.
Now that is scary.

A whole new OS? your kidding right?
It's a slower Snow Leopard with "NEW" WALLPAPER and "NEW" HORRIBLE Exposè.
Come on guys this is Apple Vista, it must be free.

TIGER 10.4.11 is the best OS Apple Computer ever made

If you try to run Lion on non-supported hardware then it can run horribly slow. This is why Apple has minimum hardware requirements. By the way, I have used Jaguar, Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard and I can tell you from experience that Tiger was good but it is not the best OS that Apple ever made.

Do you even own a Mac computer or are you running Tiger on a hackintosh? Try reading some of the reviews that have been posted on the internet. For example in this review Dino Dai Zovi calls Lion the "king of security" by using full ASLR. Dino Dai Zovi makes a living by trying to hack into OS. 10.7 is more then just a OS update it is a complete overhaul. You sound like you have not used Lion on official Mac hardware.

Every report that I have read have indicated that Lion is a streamlined speedy OS. So who should I believe you or people that have actually used Lion.

I agree with you he does need some help, this anal retentiveness is to say the least boring, so I m with you here. :)

yeah that's what you got win 7... it's progress, it's the future, it's finally pc industry coming of age.
Would you please elaborate? I have only read up on the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit. Actual usage on the other hand is something else entirely.

+3 MILLION on torrent (the faster way to download it)

Why would you even promote the stealing of software. Please don't deny that you just promoted the stealing of software like it is a better way to distrubute and download software or as you just put it "the faster way to download it".

Apple's Data Center

For those saying North Carolina or Apple's Data Center are getting a workout, several reports out today saying Akamai actually handled all the licensing and downloading for Apple. So maybe those servers are still sitting, waiting on the iCloud.

You're kidding right. If you are looking for some sort of "hey your right" about MS Windows then this is not the website for you. Maybe a nice Windows-centric website would work better for you to help you feel better about using Windows.

For all you Anti-Apple people, coming here to just stir up trouble is pretty childish. By the way, marking me down because your an Anti-Apple hater is also pretty childish.

I call shenanigans on the Vista comparison. Apple supposedly already had their Vista - I believe that was the accusation leveled at Leopard.

You only get one Vista. You're not allowed two.

You're right, it's no Vista. Vista has twice the market share.

Agreed that people are over looking or don't even know about the kernel or deep down changes that came with Lion. Lion was more than just a pretty face makeover.

Sales numbers like this, prove that American's are impulse buyers when the price is so low.

It proves the Genius of Apples marketing expertise.

At a measly $30 per copy, and just one easy click away, Lion will sell on those two points alone.

Hardly anything else matters, certainly not to Apple.

1) They get the Money
2) They get the Bragging Rights

They get those two things which they value more than anything in this world.

It's win/win, and Apple gets both of those wins :)

Thank you, Aiden. I did kind of think that was probably true, but since it was just an analogy I thought I could probably get away with it :D Anyways, I do still think that it would probably be wise to wait a little before installing it. But if someone has more than one computer that is compatible with 10.7 then it might actually be fun to see what all the fuss is actually about.

Some questions...

Does anyone know...

a) When you have Auto-Save switched on and you open, say, a Textedit document and that document appears as "Untitled" when you next open Textedit (as you never manually saved it), where is that "Untitled" document actually saved on the hard drive?

b) When you have versions activated in, say, Numbers... how do you access Versions whilst remaining in Full Screen Mode? The title of the document (from where you access versions) disappears in Full Screen mode.

c) When accessing Versions in, say, Numbers, of a Password Protected document, is there any way you can stop the bloody thing asking you for the password every time you take a step backward in the row of documents. Eg. to step back five versions, I have to type the password in five bloody times...?

Any help greatly appreciated.

are you kidding me? you didn't mention one new system change that runs under the hood. and i haven't noticed any reduction in speed. ars technica has a good article on what really changed. you should go read it.

Man, you need some help.

You can have your view and your opinion.

Unless it's informed, however, it's just an anecdote - possibly interesting, but mostly worthless. The problem is that you think yours is universal sentiment. But it has no basis in reality, unless we count the one you made up for yourself.

In light of the events of the past few days - most of them quite astounding when relating to Apple - here's what you wrote:

Read it again to yourself.

I know. Pretty messed up, right? And it went around the world.

Honest question here. I am 100% happy with my 2011 macbook pro and with Snow Leopard. I do every day browsing mainly, and then Aperture 3 and Apple Logic on occasion. Is there any reason whatsoever to go through the headache of upgrading? Is this simply just a facelift that looks more like iOS, or are there legitimate reasons I should be upgrading when I'm already happy?

Thanks

I took the negative mark off your post. Ridiculous that you can't ask a simple question without some idiot marking it negative.

To answer your question, i think its a great user experience update for any system that uses a track pad. your going to get that tactile connection with the content which makes computing enjoyable. also, there are tons of nice little features like sorting a folder by "Date Added". Very useful. The download manager in safari is great and you can drag and drop files from the download manager to the desktop which is useful. spotlight has been graphically enhanced. if you use apple mail you'll see a huge improvement. this alone is worth thirty bucks and it isn't a hassle. at least for me it hasn't been.

theres also under the hood changes. file vault actually encrypts on a layer above 3rd party apps and is more robust and modern than before. versioning is great once you let go of the nerd aspect. if your like me you don't want to give that control up but then soon realize its ok. you can go read the ars technica article which talks about the under the hood changes. the finder is cocoa and uses new APIs which is great. even in column view when sorting by date added, you get headers (today, yesterday, etc.) and the content of the column is organized under those headers in column view. these headers show up in date modified too, so if you have a big client folder for example, you can sort it in date modified (even in column view) and all your current projects jump to the top of the column. Now i don't have to scan the whole folder for my current projects. the way its implemented in Lion gives you more feedback and is a great use of information design.

I think for a trackpad or laptop owner, this update is even more appealing due to enhanced user experience.
