Do you honestly think Apple would say "Well this person on a forums site wants old legacy ports back, lets add them back then!"?

See this is the problem I am talking about.. Not a single person has said anything like this yet the thread gets twisted into making others think this was even suggested.....

AND THIS IS WHY I DON'T BELIEVE THREADS LIKE THIS.

In the recent thread, "New Keyboard, Love it or Hate it?" owners overwhelmingly voted YES to the new keyboard. And at least some of the few who voted NO were NOT OWNERS . So why lie and claim it was evenly split, when the new keyboard is clearly a hit?

So when people tell a lie, which can easily be checked, what credibility remains? Zero. More importantly, saying something that is blatantly untrue begs the question: WHY?

Robert

I guess you didn't replace the Caps Lock key for the Escape button on your Touch Bar.

Um, if I recall correctly, the 2015 rMBP have more issues thermal throttling than the 2016 systems. This is why benchmarks are again, useless.
[doublepost=1484588660][/doublepost]

I didn't need dongles with my 2010 Macbook Pro. But I did with my 2013 rMBP. I even needed to get an external Superdrive too *SHOCK*. I didn't go around and whine about it all day long.

Benchmarks are not useless. You realize the thermal envelope for the 2016 MBP is smaller then the previous model because of the decrease in thickness?

The Geekbench score is a general indication of performance. Not only does the 2016 have less performance then the 2015 model but it is quite a ways off from the claim of being near the speed of a maxed iMac.

If you don't care about the loss in performance that is one thing but your claim is made from utter fantasy.

That would be incorrect!

Why do I claim that ? Because that was the reaction at the time. I don't know how it is today, but at the time that was split. Asking my ex-colleague (absolute fanboy but still rational compared to some raging haters here), he said the same thing "some hate it, some love it".

So what's your big theory then since you do not "believe those threads" ? I'm in fact shilling for Razer, Dell, Lenovo and HP ? Please

I didn't create a thread to complain, much less rant, about the lack of an SD card slot.
You're still complaining. And your complain is neither more or less valid that others'. I happen to have more complains than you do.
I decided to vent about it, the fact you can't stand that people don't like your toy is weird to me, but sounds a lot like your problem, not mine.

I actually don't mind the dongles at all. USB-C is the future, it is really nice to be able to connect something without being worried if it's the right side or not. My problem is that this laptop could be really good without the touchbar and the gigantic trackpad.
[doublepost=1484610266][/doublepost]
You're overall happy with a laptop that isn't good?

Yes, as I mentioned there's no one better. Imagine you're in an island with 5 girls all are ugly. Even though they are ugly you will probably be happy with one of them. That's kinda the same analogy

You claimed that the forums were split. They're not. The new keyboard is HEAVILY favored. And guess what? The new machines are heavily favored.

By making up stories to support your inability to research a tool for you specific needs, you are just losing credibility. You're not getting any support because this is all on you, not Apple. And that's assuming it's true.

Seems that close to 30% would disagree, not indicative by any means. 2016 is highly polarising product so such numbers don't entirely surprise. Ultimately time will tell on the merits of the 2016 MBP.

My sons girlfriend works at an Apple Store in the LA area and she said the 2016 returns were significantly higher than the 2015's were when they were 1st released...

I assume the increase in returns are due to some not liking the KB or the trackpad.. Another chunk might be from people who thought they wanted the TB then saw it as a gimmick and exchanged it..

I didn't get into details with her but her statement is contrary to the claim another poster made a while back in a different thread... The person in that other thread was claiming his Apple Store employee friend told him that returns were non existent.... LOL

Apple 1st Gen`s are always flaky, needing some time for the kinks to be worked out at the production phase & software level. Think the 2016 is more so as it`s one of the most significant updates to the MPB, and lets be straight nor is the Mac Apples priority these days.

"If" I go for one it will be 2nd or 3rd revision. As for sales & returns no real ideal, I may speak to friend as it`s his field, his last comment was the 2016 is for the fans. Can certainly state I have yet to see one in use by an actual owner in my travels. My own consideration is that Apple is looking at smaller volumes & higher margin, with pricing rather reflecting the same.

For me it`s more related to value than absolute cost, at just $61 more Surface Book offers significantly more over the new MBP. Luckily I am not locked into a specific OS, which I find of recent advantageous.

Q-6

What configurations are you comparing?

i7, 256, 8Gb & dGPU SB = $2056
i7, 256, 8Gb nTB 13" MBP = $1995

Unless your locked into OS X the Surface Book clearly represents much better value; 2 in 1 form factor, Pen & Touch input and dGPU, equally if you have no need irrelevant. Surface Book easily matches Apple`s build quality, well mine at least...

When they start making a 15" things will get even more interesting for Apple.

Would be interesting to see Microsoft`s "take" on a 15" class portable, equally Microsoft will need to think hard as I don't see a larger version of the current Surface Book working, then again never say never. If Surface Book 2 removes the hinge gap and Microsoft can adequately differentiate a larger notebook, I can certainly see there being a market for one.

This is sort of like Trump-speak.

Just say ANYTHING and keep saying it and some will believe it.

There are still people here who are lying about owning the machines. And the fellow who made up the story (quite obviously I might add) about his girlfriend's mother's cousin at an Apple Store has been attacking the machine he owns for weeks. Make sense?

Who's running this asylum? Not me. I've moved out.

Dead weight finds its own level.

Touché on the performance I stand corrected. However you do realize you posted benchmark videos.

That said the loss of mag safe, at least a transitional keep a few USB 3.1 ports along with the thunderbolt, soldered on SD Drive, loss of a SD card slot. The price is very high for a lesser system. I would rather buy a Razer Blade pro.

The thing about Windows is, I do not want hiDPI screens. NEVER. I used my Surface Pro 3 for months and months. I HATED it. Either classic desktop apps were extremely blurry due to the scaling, or just WAY WAY WAY too small due to native resolution. I am not interested in any of the metro/modern/UWP/whatever they are calling it these days. Classic desktop programs is where I do my work.

I ended up giving away my SP3. We have a few of them at work, they are not that good either. They feel like desktop i3's with very weak performance. And they get LOUD too doing anything on them!

A 5 minute render job is different than a 10-30 second benchmark test where it is under the thermal throttle time for the older systems.

What good are benchmarks when it has clearly been shown that FCPX performs 50% or more on some video editing tasks?

And I find MS getting worse. I found the RTM build of Windows 10 FAR more stable than the latest 1607 release. Back when Windows 10 first came out I was talking about it with EVERYONE. Convincing them to upgrade, saying how much better it was. Then 1511 hit and the issues just kept coming after that.

Because it's not always about video encoding.

Benchmarks are useful for a baseline in performance. In this case geekbench is useful for more day to day things like compressing, video decoding, desktop animation handling and other less stranious tasks that on a slow computer can drive people up the wall. I only have a base 13" 2015 model so I only use it for light tasks and didn't realize the 15" had issues. Like the late 2015 iMac the 2016 MBP is running cooler primarily because of the work Intel did and not Apple, although it is worth noting that Apple adjusted the fan programming in the firmware on the iMac.

It was interesting in the second video to find out that there are replacement USB cables that will work without adapters or replacing drives so the ports are not as big an issue as I thought.

My last remaining gripes are the function bar screen thing which is more of a reservation of it is actually useful or not, the loss of the mag safe and the sad being soldered into the machine.

I'm still of the opinion that as it stands right now the Macs in my signature are probably my last Mac computers if Apple continues down the path they are going. I never thought the day would come but Apple is utterly greedy soldering everything to their machines.

Don't get me wrong I don't think the SP-3 was great device, nor tragic, with SP4 being a significant advancement, equally not for me with the Surface Book being far more suitable for my needs. My Windows systems are on the latest commercial build of W10 1607 so far the OS has been super stable for my usage, more so than OS X. Truthfully there are so many variables between one PC and another is difficult in the extreme to compare outside of controlled conditions.

I am aware that my professional workflow is breaking OS X as typical home/recreational use the OS remains to be stable across 3 Mac`s. On a project in the field the paradigm shifts, with application crashes up to and including the OS full on locking up, of which I was treated to yesterday. Ultimately I am moving off OS X for stability & commercial reasons and frankly Apple`s direction with the Mac is disappointing to me.

I try to look at it that you use the OS that serves you best at the give time. Considering spinning up a Linux system, equally potentially very challenging on the professional side as it needs to be a notebook, with battery runtime being a significant factor.

I don't understand why the OP is broadcasting that he can't manage to keep a desk neat enough to not literally stack his computer on top of peripherals and cables strewn about everything else.

I really don't get a point of such pointless threads. Just return it/sell it if you are not happy.

I am not sharing your point of view and 'problems'. Especially battery and exaggerated USB-C 'problem' - ("same song" of most first reviewers).

*I drink best coffee at home, hate Starbucks. No apple fanboy just happy and satisfied user.

You may not be, but many people are, and posting multiple viewpoints makes it easier for other readers to figure out whether they'd like it.

I returned mine and the only regret I still have about moving is that I haven't found replacement paint programs that I like.
