I'm struggling to figure out what the purpose of the :apple:watch is. I've gone from super excited thinking it was going to be a great fitness band and keep track of steps, heart rate, activities and maybe more, to coming to the conclusion that it is little more then a novelty with poor battery life.

I think the fitbit is going to give me everything I'm looking for in a activity band and do it for several hundred dollars less. I don't want games, I don't want to opt out of advertisements, I don't want people sending me doodles on my wrist.

I like the Apple pay part. I wonder if Apple will licence Apple Pay for other devices to use? Not likely given Apples history.

My wallet is ready, but my head and heart are starting to question the purpose of it.

Apple is officially a one trick pony now. The iPhone 6/6+...the novelty has worn off now, applepay: That novelty has worn off and nobody cares about it anymore. NFC: Nobody cares. Fluffy new ios 8 features: nobody cares anymore. Time for apple to come out with a new one trick pony device to get everyone hyped up so they can just forget about it in a couple months once the novelty wears off.

Buying an apple product is like buying an expensive pair of shoes, it may look nice and make you feel good for about a month or two after, but after that, it's just another pair of shoes, just another computer, just an iphone, etc etc.

One trick pony.

This apple watch....forget it. It's already a pony.

I used to play with these Casio models when I was a kid

iWatch is such an awful idea. Every new thing I read about it makes it look dorkier and dorkier.

It sure is. I also find it comical that people are actually going to try to play games on a freeging watch. Really? Talk about desperation. What's next? They are going to watch Lord of the Rings on the iWatch too?

Get. A. Life.

"As we've learned from the WatchKit API, the first apps coming out for the Apple Watch will be entirely reliant on the iPhone, powered by the phone itself and projected to the Apple Watch to conserve battery."

Apps reliant on the iPhone? This makes no sense for an app to be tethered to your phone unless its to use the gps or cell data. Why would I want my app projected on my watch from my phone? There will be a noticeable lag even its a 1 second lag! How accurate is this info? Because I don't believe it, doesn't sound like apple standards.

The Apple Watch is indeed very reliant on the iPhone, and this bit of information is true. From Apple's Apple Watch developer site (https://developer.apple.com/watchkit/):

WatchKit apps have two parts: A WatchKit extension that runs on iPhone and a set of user interface resources that are installed on Apple Watch. When your app is launched on Apple Watch, the WatchKit extension on iPhone runs in the background to update the user interface and respond to user interactions. WatchKit provides three opportunities to extend your iPhone app to Apple Watch: WatchKit apps, Glances, and actionable notifications.

All you lot will be eating your hats when this thing comes out and you see people gaming on it! I seriously don't get the negativity on this story it's gonna be a major part of the watch puzzle.

I see tamagotchi style games you can play with the vibration and a few taps every now and then to be massive on this platform. There is still loads of other uses for quick tapping something that isn't quick enough for some on a phone with taking it out of your pocket and unlocking finding the app etc.

Honestly there are plenty of people racing to be totally plugged into tech and games. I'm not one and won't even be getting an apple watch but to say games are silly is narrow minded beyond belief.

The apple watch is such a ridiculous product. Anyone playing a "game" on their watch really needs to examine their life.

What's next? The apple boot? A regular boot with a touch screen on the toe? Guess it can be used when you don't feel like glancing at your apple phone, your apple watch, or your apple scarf.

Why?

I know this question might sound a bit... thick. But seriously, why on earth, would one ever want an iWatch?

Phones, computers, tablets.... they're all electronics. But a watch is an article of clothing, a fashion statement, something one brings along all the time. Why would I want a watch from a technology company? It looks pitifully dorky.

Actually, games like the ones that come with the Blackberry phones (the slider /ball game) can be easily played on a watch. If you're at home just sitting around for something, I can see someone jumping into a quick distraction on the watch. You don't really need to care about battery life if you're at home.

I'm sorry, but that sounds COMPLETELY ridiculous.

Of all the things you can do at home, you're going to be sitting around playing games on your watch? I mean, come on.

I can't wait for the day when they can get the battery life life up to a few weeks and then we can get final cut pro x on that little sucker.

We're probably 7 years away from that being reality. And that might be too conservative an estimate. Check out the latest intel usb drive computer. At that point, these smart watches will be amazing.

Running OS X on a smart watch would have value. The apple watch of today is nonsense.

The iwatch is ridiculous, but a watch has always been a piece of technology.

Much rather use the space for storing music so this thing can replace my iPod for workouts and such.

But you know, this'll be nice for all those people who want games on their watch. I'm sure they're out there.

Can't tell if serious or not, and I'll be honest, it's breaking my brain a bit.

You're allowed to not like the concept of a smart watch, that's fine. What boggles my mind is that you think putting a desktop OS on a watch would be better.

I don't think the OS is the limiting factor on functionality. I think it's the screen size.

Ha, tamagotchi! Didn't even think of that.

I'll admit it, that is a style of game that would work on a watch. I'm not sure how I feel about this word tile one, but I could totally see that.

I got to tell you I could barely see the iPhone three screen so what in the hell am I going to do with an iwatch screen? It will be interesting to see how many of theses they sell. Probably a lot due to the fanboys

Looks really exciting...not. Seriously, there's a thousand dull puzzle apps like this in the App Store already. Guess they get points for bring the first to the watch though, right?

Aren't fitness games all the rage now? Can you imagine a game that tracks your heartbeat and put it into in game scenarios? I think the input of the watch sensors open up a world of gaming possibilities. It's not just about interacting with the watch screen, but having the watch interact with bigger screens around us.

since the Iphone has to be paired with the watch, why wouldnt i just use my phone to play the game? Would probably be a better experience as well

To you. I'm sorry that other people live their lives differently. Some people may be too lazy to walk up to their bedroom to get their phone. Some people just wanted to try a quick game for 2 to 3 minutes while Katy Perry is performing during half time of the Superbowl. Whatever the use case is, it's more ridiculous for someone to reject the idea of a game on a smart device.

I don't care either way, as I don't game on my smartphone anyway, let alone a watch. The difference is that I don't see a problem with it if you choose to do so.
