I'd like to think of myself as a person who can wait until all of this settles down and the demand loosens up, but I don't want an iPad 2. But I also realize that I'm teeming with anticipation for the release of Sucker Punch, of which I will watch day 1 at midnight, and I realize that when a human really wants something, like really really wants something, they'll do all they can to get their hands on it asap.

Five to 7 business day

Has anybody, who ordered online and got the 5 to 7 business day estimate, receive shipping notification?

Bunch of retards, no other words.
I did plan on buying one ipad2, wouldn't lose sleep to get up early, or stand in line. Ordered few days after launch after playing with it at the store, will come in a few weeks, if it takes longer, fine with me... no rush.

That is horrible, to bad they are in such short supply. I usually go to Vegas to visit family during Easter, that looks like the venitan hotel I won't go there if it is packed. Well alls well that ends well I got mine last Friday lol

It is the Forum Shops at Caesars.

Wow! that is crazy.....though my wife and I did get up at 3-4am to get a Nintendo Wii......that was about 2 years after it launched. all stores around us would sell out within 10 minutes of opening or dropping them on the floor.

It happens to popular products. people want them and will wait in line...though also means some people buy the max they can to sell to others who are waiting which sucks but is the "greedy" capitalistic way of making money for your work...and by work i mean standing in line waiting.

you do/can meet nice people in line and have good conversations of what else you'd be doing that time. For us the power was out the night before and came back on 5 minutes before we left so it wasn't like we were warm at home anyway.

Simple explanation

What we're seeing is a snowball effect.

Demand was already expected to be very high with constricted supplies at best. The supply situation is even worse than anticipated, which is causing several things to come together:

  • People who want to get it right away are lining up earlier.
People are forgoing the online ordering option at this point and are gambling on buying at a store now.
Gray marketers are sending more plants out in recognition of demand
"Legit" international buyers are queuing with the knowledge that rollouts in their countries may be impacted.
Some are hearing about component shortages or tsunami impacts and are choosing to act now instead of wait out a significant delay, even though the impacts may not be felt for several months.
Apple is keeping customers in the dark about availability, forcing them to overprepare/overreact.
The 18 SKU production dilemma is clearly evident, as people who get iPads are often not getting the color/version they want.
It's a sort of supply-demand perfect storm and it's worse than it has been for the iPhone or the original iPad, especially because of that last issue.

One way Apple Retail can handle this better is to designate specific days or timeframes for certain products. Then customers can line up for the products they want, or if they don't care what type they get they'll have flexibility. One thing's for certain: if Apple doesn't handle the communications aspect of this with more deft it's going to turn into a big PR problem.

This is where I again smugly point out I got mine at Walmart on launch day after a 45 minute wait. There is no benefit to getting it at the Apple store beyond the lame story to tell and heat stroke/flu (depending on your locale).

Looks like my 13 hour wait on Launch Day wasn't that bad after all.

LOL...funny how some people don't value the time they have left on this planet. Pissing away 13 hours sitting in a line of all things. No electronic device is worth that kind of price.

Actually I think you understood his point perfectly. Your just trolling for an argument!

No, he's pointing out the flaw in the statement...in general, I hate the "There is XXX going on in the world, so why should everyone else be doing YYY?" argument. Yes, there are people standing in line in the world for more desperate measures and that is a royal shame, but should everyone not be allowed to live their lives and live their lives however they choose leisurely because of that? During any major US event/tragedy, many others outside the US (and inside) continued their normal daily routine, but that didn't mean they were ignorant - or any less compassionate for the situation - for doing so. The times when we can do that are certainly preferred over the alternative.

For every other iPhone release, I arranged home delivery on launch day but for the iPhone 4, I decided to "experience" the launch at Apple store, took my hubby & SIL's also, got there around 6.30am & already there were 2 huge queues, 1 for reserved(me thank god!!)but still had to wait several hours despite having reserved it....it was an experience, yes but next time its back to home delivery!!!

The argument seems to be that Apple is to blame for the unruly behaviour of customers when standing in line. How?

Surely it is the customers' fault for being unable to line in a sensible manner.

As for it being "pathetic" to line up to purchase a product, I really don't understand it. The online orders are at 4-5 weeks. I'm no genius, but if people stand in a line for four hours, with presumably that amount of free time, and finally get to the front, then that is most definitely quicker than waiting 4-5 weeks for the delivery of one.

It is simple. Some people favour convenience (in which case, they'd order through the online store) and some people favour instant (relative to ordering online) gratification.

actually that is the forums shop which is in Caesars Palace there is no Apple Store in the Venitan there are only 3 locations in vegas

* Town Square Mall
* The Forum Shops (Caesars Palace)
* Fashion Show Mall

guess my 24 hours wait night before launch day was not a waste... now guess I can laugh at the people who drove buy saying "You know you can order that **** online" ya sure you can and wait 2 months to get it :)

In the rest of the world people make lines to get some food and this bunch of loosers do it for a leasure device. What a shame.
SHUT UP. Go to another forum, if you don't like this type of news.

And it's spelled "losers", Einstein.

I really want one before a certain event where I could really use one... so, how low will I stoop? Will I give in and wait in line? :) (I won’t stoop to paying extra, for sure.)

My local Apple Store (not NYC!) said the line only formed at 6:30am by the end of the week, and half those people actually got an iPad. (The one they most wanted? Who knows.)

I’m already waitlisted at two chain stores. Maybe one will call...

I will say that spending time “just for fun” is an acceptable part of human existence. Whether the fun is the iPad, or the novelty of the community experience. (Or time reading tech forums!) Waiting in line at the Apple Store rates somewhere above watching reality TV, as a use of one’s time :p Probably about even with taking a nap...

It is still hard for me to understand why those people will wait more than 10 hours to get ipad2? I got a white one from Walmart.com on launch day and a black one from apple store last Saturday after about 1 hour wait. If you really want to get one and you do not want to wait. All you need do is pay $100 to $150 to get from craigslist.

LOL! I love the people posting artificial shortage conspiracy theories! Love it. What a croc of junk! LOL! Yeah... let's not sell them too fast and spend tons on extra daily shipments to just keep the lines long! LOL! Good ones!

Hey... guess what.. Apple's done such a good job of denying sales that I can't find one anywhere in my town. But I did get a Best Buy geek try to point me to the fully stocked shelfs of Xooms! They really need to dust at Best Buy. How did those boxes get so dusty in only a couple weeks? :p

I don't understand why people are so impatient and need trivial things so much. The Futurama episode "Attack of the Killer App" was understated apparently.

Paying more than list price for these things is just poor judgement, but to stand in line for hours to get a CHANCE to get one is just as bad. It's saddening, sickening, and a little embarrassing about the American consumer all at the same time.
