I'm waiting on the Verizon 4G Mifi coming at the end of the month to go with my ATT iPhone 4, iPad 2 wifi and MBP. It will scream past anything 3G and give me VoIP on Verizon :D

Too bad the rest of the world can't learn from the lesson we taught them: respect people's rights and work hard; the result is overwhelming prosperity; then they'd all be overweight and buying iPads too.

errr isn't the US the world's biggest debtor? Yes it is. Better hope the dollar stays being the reserve currency then, cos otherwise it's going to be a bumpy ride, and people's rights and working hard will quickly turn into a savage free-for-all.
BUT...
until that time, enjoy your iPads ....

I spent five hours in line at the local Apple Store today.
I was the first person in line behind the last lucky ticket holder when they finally figured out that they had only received 16 iPads of various types.

I did get one. :D
A 64gb Verizon White model. It was what was left. And I just wasn't going to try that again.

The lady in front of me didn't want to spend that much  and gave me her ticket. I wish her luck when she tries again.

that sucks, i know for sure..

That sucks that some people cant get it! I am sure that here at the mall they have plenty. North County Wesfield mall. in escondido california. :apple:

I waited in line at the Salt Lake Apple store Tuesday, got there around 7am, and there was a small line of maybe 20 people. They came out and announced they didn't get any.
Came back Wed after reading the "Hold till next morning" rumors, and figured if they didn't get any on Mon or Tue, Wed had to be the day. I arrived at 6am, and was 2nd in line (People got there at 4am for 1 & 2). They announced they got some around 8am, but not too many. At 8:30 they came out and told most of the 75 people in line that there weren't enough for them. At the same time a woman went down the line and told the first 20 people or so what the stock was. (No AT&T, limited verizon/wifi) The guy at #2 didn't hear the unit he wanted and left. So I became #2. I wanted a AT&T... Any size. Wound up getting two 32GB Verizon models. The woman in front of me bought the only two 64GB VZ models. I didn't get what I wanted so I sold them to 2 friends (at cost) with the promise that they would buy my beers at the pub for the foreseeable future.
Skipped Thursday.
Tried again Friday, got there at about 6:15am again and was shocked to see over 100 people in line already. The first thing I noted was that 15 of the first 20 spots in line were the same people from Tues and Wed. All Asian. And I know they all got models on Wed. Word down the line was the first 5 people all started to line up around 1am. At around 7:45 they started handing out tickets, and it was clear very early that we weren't going to get one. So I bolted to the Target down the street which opened at 8. Got there at the same time as the 2 guys around me that I had befriended in the line (and told them about the online stock checker). We walked in right as the doors opened, they had one 64 white AT&T, a 32 Black wifi and a 64 white wifi. Clerk said they had come in around 4pm the day before and no one bought any. I bought the 64 AT&T.

As we leaving with our iPads, about 4 asians ran in and sprinted to the back. I had a smoke outside debating if I should even check Walmart down the street. The Asians all came out of the store with iPads. So I guess the clerk was only minimally stocking the shelves. I didn't bother going in again, but hopped in my car to Walmart. Got there before the Asians, heard they were sold out, and left as the Asians came bolting through the doors running to electronics.

After all that hassle I put mine up on craigslist for what I thought was a ton of money,($1,250, just to see if anyone really wanted it that bad) and got a email that afternoon. A guy showed up at my work and paid me cash for my 64 AT&T. He was one of the 4 running around earlier this morning.
Since the AT&T models work around the world, that's why the gray market wants them so bad, and you can usually find a VZ model available if you try hard enough.

tl;dr.... Asians are hoarding GSM iPads and shipping them overseas.

Now to wait the 5 weeks for my 64 AT&T black to arrive.

to be honest: that's insane. Not the hype, which apple created, but the very bad planned supply. And they want to call themselves a top-IT company? Gimme a break... Their supply chain folks should all get fired.

That's simply unprofessional... and the press coverage? Yeah, there's a lot, but it's not positive...

am flying into US tomorrow night. Am planning to buy an iPad on Sunday, though I believe chances are meager...

Those Asians sure are sneaky. I guess the Cold War hasn't ended yet. It's clear there's a conspiracy to ship all iPads back to China.

I'll admit I'm not the type of person to stand in line for this kind of thing (more the type to order it in the first few minutes of online ordering and get it delivered last Wednesday, thankyouverymuch) but still, I don't understand the hostility directed at these people. Who are they hurting? They wouldn't be there if they didn't want to be, so more power to 'em.

And think of this way: the more people lining up means all the more effort Apple is going to pour into the next iteration. So quit slamming these people and relax.

Well said. I really don't see why so many people are borderline angry with these people... If they choose to stand in line, it's not like it's affecting you, so I don't see what the issue is. What inkswap said is right. Relax.

I've never seen it (or have any interest in it - in fact I'm rather ashamed I'm even AWARE of it), but do you or know someone who watches the show "Jersey Shore"? I don't think anyone actually watches this show because they respect or want to be like the people in it (except maybe for being "famous" for a ridiculously stupid reason).

My assertion is people watch Jersey Shore like they're watching a train wreck. A wreck they just can't turn away from.

This is kind of like that.

Some people want iPad 2's but also understand that the only way to secure one is to wait in line, rather than casually walking in and expecting one. I've waited every year for the iPhone, but at least I get what I want.

I don't understand the comments that Apple wanted to create this shortage and somehow enjoys lines of unhappy people. Its a business, they want to sell as many units as they can. There was going to be lines any way you look at it. Clearly it is a combination of high demand and yes I agree there are people buying them for resale. Before the release it was all doom and gloom, not enough of an upgrade, no Retina etc. Clearly the ipad2 is a hit and I'm sure if Apple had them they would be selling them. Don't forget these lines take away from the stores productivity. They have to pay staff to handles these lines.

I think there were many people like myself, who passed on ipad 1 and was getting this either way, no matter what the upgrades were. I waited a year and I wanted one. I got lucky, went over to UWS Apples store around 4:45 on launch day, two hour wait and just got the ATT unit I wanted. I heard they sold out right after. I watched people flipping them on the line and clearly there were resellers there but plenty of end users.

I thought they handled things quite well, they had 50 plus sales people, both upstairs and downstairs, I think a 2 hour wait, being I must have been 1000 people back was not to bad. I was not only around the block but another 4 blocks away from the store.

I do think they should have limited sales to 1 per person or credit card, but such is life. What else can you expect a company to do, they had these at all the retailers, clearly in Manhattan they had unit counts in the thousands, its popular.

I feel for everyone that wants one but either they should have gotten up early for the online sales or been there for launch day. Being they are selling thousands of units per store, 18 models or whatever the count is, then a pre order system would never have worked out. i think they did a good job. Not to mention the ipad is great.

What's a real shame is people like you summing it up to race. "Asians." Really? I'm Asian (Korean, actually) and that doesn't mean I'm hoarding them to ship overseas. You can't just say "4 people"? I'm not going to go around saying "African-Americans/Caucasians/Rednecks are hoarding GSM iPads."

I've been going to early openings as well as ordering online and I couldn't get out of work during the 5pm sale last Friday to wait like others have. I just want it for myself. There are others like said eBayers who "hoard" these items for ridiculous sales. More power to the people who buy them as well as people who sell them, but don't lump us all in one basket because you "saw Asians."

In the rest of the world people make lines to get some food and this bunch of loosers do it for a leasure device. What a shame.

So true!
They should just order it online like I dd.Just before I surfed over and ordered a large pizza with extra meat.

hard earned money

I have a hard time waiting in line to give someone my money. seems the price for these ipads is too little.
