I was one of those who got pissed when apple got rid of headphone jack. But year later i startrd to think thats the best thing to happen. I still use my wired headphones at work with mac but only because i have them. and it feels annoying.
in this aspect Apple are truly leaders and showed the industry a better way forward. Same with USB c.
someone mentioned magsafe and i agree that should have stayed.
Making laptops with only USB-C connectors is certainly NOT the way forward. The way forward is to make laptops with options for both USB 3.1 And USB-C as Windows manufacturers are doing - allowing people to continue using their existing peripherals until THEY decide they want to change them.

Edit : And this has be true of all changes in the Windows computing world. Floppy drives, serial/parallel ports, ps/2 keyboards/mice, DVD drives etc.

somebody is not letting you choose which devices to spend your money on? have you reported this to your local law enforcement?

Choice argument is bollocks.

If you’re heavily invested in Apple ecosystem/value privacy, iphone is the only option.

That’s. Why. People. Are. Annoyed.

Can’t believe I have to spell this sh*t out...

Now never make this horsesh*t argument about choice again.

But does not work on my windows PC with Bluetooth. Wonder why.
True. I would love to use them with my work PC but no dice.

Enjoy paying for that functionality for the rest of your life (lo-ion batteries die after 2-3years, time to drop another £160!)

In the meantime i’ll Keep using my wired headphones which cost £8, and never run out of battery.

If you love wireless, fine. But why not let me use wired?

True but once the airpods die, I won't buy anymore. I'll just use the USB-C adapter with my wired headphones.

I still can't grasp how comfortable airpods are. They just DO NOT BUDGE regardless of what I am doing.
Yet so many complain about them hurting after 15 minutes. I tell them give it a week and they'll feel fine and almsot natural.

So for 2 years, you had to deal with adaptors or finding a special printer for your iMac? Great.
So we can never move forward, once one type of port is created?

And don't say "You can just have both", because then the "new" port NEVER gains traction, even if it is vastly superior, like even USB 1.0 was over RS-232. (12 Mbps vs. 115 kbps max, zero config. vs. tons of config. problems, etc.).

Nope. Sometimes you just have to rip off the duct tape from your mustache...

If it's better, people will switch to it, just like how it works on every other PC manufacturer. You can't say the iMac with its almost 0 marketshare was the reason people abandoned RS-232.

Oh yes I can. Because it was.

Read your history. USB connectors were on nearly every PC motherboard for probably 5 years before the iMac came out. NO ONE used them. There were no, or almost no, peripherals that used USB, and most people didn't even know what that funny looking connector even WAS. Most people that built their own PCs didn't even install the "riser board" that brought the connectors from a header on the motherboard to the back-panel.

Enter the iMac.

Just a few months later, a veritable TORRENT of USB peripherals, hubs (in iMac colors!), cables (again, in iMac colors!) etc. flooded the market.

At MOST two years later, you would be hard-pressed to find a peripheral with RS232 or Parallel connectors, and if they did have them, they ALSO sported a USB connector where none was before...

So yes, it WAS the iMac. and ONLY the iMac.

Windows didn't even have decent USB support until Windows 98 (yes, I know "OSR2" had USB support, but it was flaky as hell! And even the Windows 98' USB support was pretty hit-and-miss, as embarrassingly demonstrated in front of a huge crowd at CES by none other than Bill Gates!), and, unbelievably, Linux didn't have ANY USB support until about 2001!!!

I have not used a headphone jack on phone since 2012. I travel lots using headphones on plane is so annoying, tagged cables, getting up to use the bathroom, having to step out let others use the bathroom, putting cables away when landing etc. Headphone cables & jacks are useless to me

Gotta have to be realistic about this one. Majority of users are going to stick with their existing usb A accessories and use usb C only for charging. Nothing is going to change unless you light a fire under their collective asses and force them to change.

If your heavily invested, lack of choice should not be the company's own decision to make you part of them.. even if its a limited eco-system..That's just what Apple does and what's everyone else to do. The world doesn't work that way.

That's tells me no one can think anymore.

But you, right? You’re the thinking man amongst the unthinking masses. You’re unique. You’re different.
