"On the bottom, you'll notice that we ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack. The elegance of the overall design is instantly heightened. And who needs a headphone jack anyway? That's why Bluetooth exists, right?" deadpanned Diego Heinz, a designer at OnePlus. "Just kidding. Of course the OnePlus 5 has a headphone jack."

Quite audacious for a "designer" to make jokes about Apple's design decision when there is zero originality anywhere else on his own ripped off design.

eh, I'm still holding onto my 6+ until eventually I upgrade later down the road. No surprise many people still miss their 3.5 jack for a variety of reasons, not to mention it being a universal standard. Quick side note, I was out in my friend's backyard who was having a BBQ, I brought some speakers out there so we can listen to music, until I realized that my iPhone was the only phone with a jack to plug the speakers in. Needless to say when I left, all the music stopped. woops.

I would happily go out and buy an iPhone that included a headphone port, but that doesn't put me in the market for something like this because it runs Android. My family and friends are too deeply invested in the Apple ecosystem for me to really consider changing now.

Old joke.

Personally, I don't mind the headphone jack but Bluetooth is the future and I am glad Apple is forcing this change. Next step, remove it from iPad, iPod and Macs.

Oh please, if Apple hadn't released the 7+, this phone wouldn't have looked any different. They didn't get any design cues from anybody. Anywhere. ;)

Seriously though, I'm sure the majority of their sales from are peddling their phones onto unsuspecting grandparents who can't tell the difference between that and the iPhone. Dream crushers.

BTW, ANY consumer that is confused over an iPhone 7 vs One Plus 5 and accidentally buys the wrong one doesn't deserve to own a phone, period. If Apple is worried about a competitor "stealing" their design because it confuses users, it just proves that Apple thinks their customers are complete an utter morons.

Nobody wanting an iPhone 7 will make a mistake of buying a One Plus, and One Plus will not steal the market away from Apple, you can be guaranteed that.

So relax everyone, its a very decent phone that sells for much cheaper then most other flagship phones, and Apple and Samsung want us to believe cellphones today need to cost $1000+ it is great to see a company defy them and NOT copy their pricing.

Do you think HTC will sue them? Apple can't because they stole their design from HTC.
I mean, come on, the HTC and iPhone's didn't look like a carbon copy of each other...but this on the other hand...

I like the design of the back. It looks much nicer than the iPhone 7 Plus (And I own one).

But it's clear to me that the next iPhone with the edge to edge display will look even better than this.

As someone who has Airpods I can say that I really don't miss the headphone jack. Should I have to pay $159 for that? Well, no. Regardless, I haven't missed it.

What a dirty company. Pathetic, really almost scum-like. Never understood the hype surrounding them; they just churn out cheap garbage & amp up the exclusivity hype.

Oddly enough, I wouldn't want to be seen using that knock-off in public. Jokes on them though, because no one outside the tech community knows of this company.

Abandoning the port is only the first step to getting the masses on board; it has to start somewhere. It's a step into the future; and that then snowballs which results in better connectivity and longer battery life in the ears (or years) to come. It's a shame that narrow minded folks can't see it.

What? Did I read this correctly "...threw some shade..."?

Ugh. What is this Entertainment Weekly or US magazine? Is the writer in their late teens/early twenties?

Yes; I'm a curmudgeon.

I was just thinking about this "threw some shade" thing last week. Like I'm suddenly hearing it everywhere. Is it a phrase that has been around for a while? Is it something new, and what started it.

They Mocks until next year when the new oneplus will no longer have a jack....same thing samsung did last year...and the next note 8 will no longer have a jack
So Mocks but do that if you really believe you will never remove it

Awesome looking phone though. Getting tired of iOS might be worth a look.

That's like trying an alleyway if you're tired of your house.

The grass always seems greener and they'll make it look as lush as possible in their marketing. It's never as good as it seems though. I implore you, use the OnePlus in the flesh before going for an impulse purchase.

Haha, releasing this design and then having the nerve to mock Apple? And they don't even realize how ridiculous they are.

Having to use the insane, poorly thought out OS that is Android today is worse than having a phone that doesn't have a headphone port. (And this is coming from someone that thinks it was a bonehead move to get rid of the headphone port!)

Long version:

I have been using a 3GS for about a year - running iOS 5. Worked great for what I needed, and the older slower phone kept me from being addicted to my phone like everyone else. In fact, I used a Treo 655p for about a year before that for the same reason (finally switched from the Treo to an iPhone because Treos freeze anytime someone sends an emoji... that got old!)

Anyway, my 3GS started to need a new battery which is not easy to come by in 2017. So I did my research and purchased the highly-rated Moto G5plus (which runs the newest major version of Android - v7, Nougat). I spent about 48 hours trying to make heads or tails of the phone before giving up and switching back to an iPhone SE.

I am a very technically-minded person and can figure out almost any technical item put before me. The issue with Android is that it is just really poorly thought out in general.
