I sure hope Apple doesn't cheap out on us and remove wireless charging. I really hope it's just an iPhone 8, feature complete, with updated specs.

I can't guarantee it won't happen. Apple has been making a few mediocre products at a higher price in the last few years.

if this is called the iPhone 9 s (s for real schitty), we will be happy to wait for an SE2 with upgraded internals in that old mighty design of the SE.

Can an iPhone hit the $400 price point? That would be huge.
Its basically an iPhone 8 (small) updated for A13. Apple needs to leave one TouchID phone out there for Enterprise Customers that absolutely cannot have FaceID phones.

this is a low hanging guess really. It’s going to have as many iPhone 8 parts as possible, with a few updates like maybe the camera to the newest one that will “fit the spot” and is already in Apple’s BOM on another product.

iPhone 8 has almost fallen off the menu.. it’s the “cheapest” iPhone Apple sells now, so they need that bottom, small iPhone, spot filled for another 2-3 years when iPhone 8 stops being sold in about January 21.

If this phone does indeed turn out to be an upgraded iPhone 8, I'll pass. I really would have liked a return of the smaller SE form factor. But if this is what we're getting, I'll just wait for the new 5.7" iPhone this fall. It's only slightly bigger than the 8 and will have much better tech.

I suspect the XR will not hit the budget point this one will. Apple has kept the TouchID iPhone 8 partly because the “FaceID” probably adds at least $50 to the cost. Look at the past iPhones and prices.. each year, they move the models down a step. Except for X which they just stopped selling because they didn’t want to sit the market for the XS.The XR is on schedule to move to the 8+ price point... there’s no way Apple is putting FaceID in a “cheaper” iPhone, so this New one will probably match the $599 or $549 of the current 8+ with the A13 chip and the XR will be dropped or marketed as the “kids” iPhone with the bigger screen.

The bezel looks ancient. Even cheap android phones have full screen and fingerprint under the screen.

To make this phone good, keep the design like that render, but put a full screen and under screen touchID.

When android makers can do full screen phone with screen finger print reader for less than $500, so should Apple.

Why does Apple have to be like android? Do you think the most successful phone in the world being the iPhone has any need to copy a fictitious render based off a tech site? I think Apple has a pretty good idea of what they’re doing, they have made plenty of improvements with the reduction of bezels/OLED/glass/stainless, etc.

No. Tim Cook doesn't know how to make the best product at Apple except using the supply chain to rehash its product.

If that has 5G on it I’m sold!!!!

Can't wait for this. Will most likely buy day 1.
I wonder though, if 3D touch is removed then why is it thicker?
If its just updated iPhone 8 what internal thing makes it thicker? Could it just be a bigger battery? I somehow wonder why proven design gets changed
5G perhaps I honestly hope it has 5G!!!

it’s not because I want Apple to copy Android, but I want a reasonable small sized iPhone with a big screen, so the iPhone 8 body with a full screen display will suit me fine, or the SE sized phone with a full screen display even better. I don’t care about notch, it’s fine because I know Apple have to put the faceID sensor on that.

the SE seems too small for today's standards, maybe if it was full-screen and edge-to-edge but then battery life would have been dreadful. At this point the iPhone 8 design seems like a good compromise between size and battery life.

Looks like an out of date relic.

That's right. It looks so stale it's like a home appliance. But....

My friend has a gorgeous looking midrange Samsung phone: giant edge-to-edge screen, shiny rainbow-colored back, USB-C, multiple cameras... And yet the phone is laggy as hell, the camera takes awful pictures even in broad daylight and the build quality of the phone just isn't the same as an iPhone...

This phone's price is about the same as the iPhone 9's price (400-450$) and I would pick the big-bezeled iPhone in a heartbeat. Heck, I'd rather keep my 3.5 year old iPhone 7.

For me, it's not even almost a competition — I'd always rather have a reliable, fast phone instead of a flashy lag-fest of a phone that's probably not even going to receive the next 2 versions of the OS...

After 6 Android phones myself, I know which I prefer. If the 5.4" fails to materialise in September or it's crazy expensive, the '9'/'SE2' is it. Cheap and cheerful.

I will say that the iPhone SE I bought as a replacement to my iPhone XS (which was too big to comfortably use one-handed) gets crappy battery life.

My SE went from the Lord's own, magic battery life in iOS 10, to hell in a handbasket in iOS 13. So, watching for a new phone.
