Ppl here really hype themselves up to impossible extents.

Making thinner is bad, no quad core is bad... maybe just wait n see but do think that we're talking about apple here not a Dell company.

+1, just wait and see

for me, lower price and a little bit spec bump are quite enough. I don't expect a killer machine from a home-based all in one desktop iMac :D

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7C144 Safari/528.16)

Of course I just bought an iMac last month. Oh well...I'm happy with it...

My iMac is just having it's 2nd birthday and I and as happy as the day I got it...

But I know how you feel .. always something newer coming out.... :D

When you are talking about the strategies of a company you are not talking as consumer anymore, this was exactly my point.

Sometimes (and somewhere) I like to talk as a consumer.

Sometimes I like to express my thoughts (as a tech lover) about the MARKET, to make a general ANALISYS about strategies and trends, etc.

This time I'm making a wide analisys which trascend my personal needs and feelings as a consumer.

In another forum I will express my consumer view, my wishlist, etc.

And no, not all of what people wish is useless

What SOME people wish is useless to OTHER PEOPLE.

So, as a company which manufactures ONLY FEW MODELS (unlike Asus or Acer), what would you do? How would you choose a path?

; and no, not all of what a company creates is useful and affordable.
It should at least.
It should be a good BALANCE, COMPROMISE, EQUILIBRIUM, a good RECIPE "all taken in account".

Finally, have you noticed "average user" always refers to others and never to ourselves?

Of course. We are tech nerds on a tech nerds forum, we're an elite, we're not average users, but being nerds allow us to think and elaborate about what the average users need.
We are the intelligentia, the creme, the elite of the tech users.

Average user is only a statistic reality I'm afraid, not a real person.
Average rapresents a LOT of people, most people. (you must include also people with below average needs).

New macs and new leopard

With Apple promoting the ability of Snow Leopard to use as many cores as are available in a machine thanks to Grand Central Dispatch, it would be the right time to have a quad-core in the iMac. And it would also be welcome to give OpenCL some real hardware resources to tap into.
Personally I think the iMac is thin enough.
As for the Mac Mini, I already own one and I'm quite happy with it. But the ideal Mac Mini would be one with a CPU speed bump, a 9600M GT with dedicated memory, the possibily to have 8GB of RAM and easy accessibility to hard drive compartment (or SSD) and RAM slots. I'm dreaming of course.
I really to replace my Mighty Mouse too. Something without the annoying ball.

Don't think that is going to happen. It would defeat the concept of the iMac.

What's this?

The price change on the Mac Mini could simply be a "correction" of the exchange rate. €599 is much more expensive than $599 (the current prices), so switching that to €499 would be closer to the actual exchange rate. It should not be interpreted as a prediction that they'll be selling the Mini for $499 (about €350) in the States.

What's this?
Old tech that I pray they don't go back to.
What he said. :)

Old. This is 2009. The iMac will not have the internals in the base again. Not until the second coming of Jobs in 3053 at least.
You might be right. :D

Seriously, the current iMac is truly an all in one design where everything is contained in the monitor unit. You can mount the whole computer via a simple VESA adapter. I would be very surprised if Apple went back to having a base unit with a monitor.

Can you mount an iMac? I didn't think you could.

Might be a new feature if you can't currently.

since gateway is releasing a mac mini dito with quad. i think apple could do the same?

and - release a 30" imac...would have enough space for a quad ;) even if slimmer.;)

My guess is that this stuff will come out Tuesday. Just went to the apple store and cleaverly asked about updates. From the feel I got, my guess is tues.

And apple has sex apeal. A thinner iMac is going to scream envy for others.

Another vote for "thinner iMac is stupider". Put a damn quad core model into the line-up for the graphic design and video editors and make it a matte screen. Apple supposedly has the most powerful OS (or so they say) yet only their Pro models can make use of that power. You can now buy a quad core PC for under $600. The cheapest Mac to have a quad core processor is the entry level $2500 Mac Pro. You do the math. One of the reasons my next computer purchase is going to be a PC running Windows 7.
