Another vote for "thinner iMac is stupider". Put a damn quad core model into the line-up for the graphic design and video editors and make it a matte screen. Apple supposedly has the most powerful OS (or so they say) yet only their Pro models can make use of that power. You can now buy a quad core PC for under $600. The cheapest Mac to have a quad core processor is the entry level $2500 Mac Pro. You do the math. One of the reasons my next computer purchase is going to be a PC running Windows 7.
Dont forget your virus ware, I wonder if it will be good as Vista was:rolleyes:

What's this?

I miss that. I loved that design.

Old tech that I pray they don't go back to.

Frankly, the ergonomics of the G4 iMac was much superior to all the iMacs since. It had the ability to adjust the screen in three planes so that one could easily place it in a comfortable position. Unfortunately, 24" screen sizes would probably be impractical in such a configuration. The more recent iMacs have real challenges in terms of cooling, the original G5 iMacs have significant problems with capacitor failure due to crappy capacitors and inadequate cooling. Apple's obsession with making iMacs ever thinner is counterproductive IMO. The iMac could benefit from a bit more power in terms of more cores to take advantage of GCD in Snow Leopard. There are a few apps that could really benefit from this....consumer level digital photo processing, consumer level video, music mixing with Garageband etc. These are the kind of things that Macs can excel at, and adequate processing power would help. For things of a more simple nature, the current iMacs are adequate, frankly. For people who really like gaming, game consoles make a lot more sense anyway. Should be interesting....I think Apple has to offer a quad core of some type to compete.

All of you people saying you are going to get a Windows 7 machine if there is no quad core. Think about what you are saying. Windows 7 is GARBAGE. I have had my vista laptop dual booted with 7 for quite some time and I rarely use 7. I have all my stuff ported over, it is basicly an upgrade without the worry of losing compatibility. Microsoft is just on crack. They need to do some OS catchup. I ask you people who want to get windows 7.... Are you on crack?

i am thinking if $499 mac mini to be true it has to have desktop CPUs the mobile CPUs are too expensive even with volume discount apple gets from Intel.

Bring it on Apple! Core i5!

No one here will actually switch back to Windows over such silly things, they say it because they think other people, including Apple, will be threatened by their claims. When really they're just whining.

Yes it would suck if there weren't significant CPU improvements, but at the same time, this is a rumour that states nothing. We're reading between the lines of a one liner.

Ok people. I mean this in no way besides to ask a simple question. I am a new to Apple computing minus my iphone/ipods etc, and I am wondering what exactly is the mac mini? Is it not a really low specd system that is tiny? Is that the appeal? If someone could shed some light in that, thatd be great :)

My iMac is just having it's 2nd birthday and I and as happy as the day I got it...

But I know how you feel .. always something newer coming out.... :D

A friend just a couple days ago bought an early 2006 CoreDuo iMac with 1.5GB RAM and you know what? He's happy as hell. Never seen anybody this happy about a computer. He's just not the type to come into fora like this one to share his happiness about a three and a half year old perfectly capable machine.

I for one will get the new thing and I'll be happy about the mouse. Been working on a 2006 early CD MacBook myself till now. Encoding is slow, but bearable. Thing is, HDD is truly the bottleneck for snappiness of the UI. You could have the Cores screem at 90%, and all is good, but have file operations going on and say goodbye to work and hello to Beachball-san.

Some thin all in ones I found...

That would be awesome if the next mac mini or imac was this...

RIP MacBook Air?
I hope not. The MBA is a nice design.

I never was a fan of the G4 iMac. While it was innovative and interesting, I much prefer the current design.

A few years ago, a buddy offered me a new 20 inch G4 iMac for free. I turned him down. Not even for free, did I want one.

Anyhow, a little thinner with a metal back would make sense. The metal case will help with cooling. Might even see a quad core processor. Probably not, but you never know.

Well, you kind of care about the OS. So do I. Half the battle is the operating system. And the difference between Windows and OS X is night and day. Completely different ecosystems, completely different user experience.

Specs? Specs mean different things in the Windows world and OS X world. With a Mac, it usually isn't about raw specs but the user experience and the seamlessness of the Apple ecosystem. My C2D 15-inch MBP 2.4 ghz with 4mb RAM runs everything beautifully. I don't see or feel any noticeable lag or slowness. Snow Leopard flies on this thing. It's a Feb '08 model, but the way it runs I can't tell. It still feels like new. And looks like it too. I'm much more inclined to keep a Mac looking its best.

Ever since I switched back to a Mac in April 2006, specs are no longer a top priority for me. I've also lost the inclination to play with parts and hardware upgrades, aside from plenty of external storage, a nice laser printer, and the best 24-inch display my money could buy. I'm doing more with my Mac then I ever did with a PC, mostly because it's an easier and more enjoyable experience. Even mundane things like word processing with Pages are much more fun, what with iWork.com integration, excellent typography handling, and a great looking interface. Things just feel and look better.

Just my personal experience, for what it's worth.

Exactly. This is what I am talking about. As long as the Apple makes computers with a good ecosystem, and a great user experience that can do what people want ( I have never encountered someone with an iMac/ MB/MBP that was complaining it wasn't powerful enough) then you are set. As far as I am concerned Windows is so hardware dependent you need 46 cores, 87GBS of RAM, A 79.99 clock rate and a 4TB HDD to run photoshop. Windows SUCKSSSS. I NEED AN iMAC. I CANT TAKE VISTA or 7 ANYMORE!

The Mac Mini is essentially a tower computer that is a bit smaller than the size of a Nintendo Wii.

I think the point of the MBA is to replace the macbook.

2008 when it was first introduced-$1799
2009 during the summer- $1499

Bring it down another $500 no need for the macbook

One way I can see them making the iMac thinner and also reducing some of the heat is to move the backlight to LED.
