since I have a life and a job i'll be waking up at 3am, ordering it, going back to sleep and waiting for it to come to me

according to my wife, waking up at 3AM to preorder "a stupid phone" means you have no life.

You might want to double-check that you do, in fact, have one.

Are you brainwashed into thinking that people need to work monday-friday 9-5 to be a working member of society?

How about people who have taken a vacation at work to stand in line (that has been me in the past), project employed (also been me in the past - I have been paid for a 3 month project, and I can work my own hours to get the project done in 3 months). They could have weekend jobs where they work Fri night - Sunday...and numerous others.

To stereotype all people who are not working on a Tuesday 2:00 in the afternoon as losers is very naive. Most successful people vacation and take time off all the time, and only work in spurts.

As well as nurses, they usually work like 3 days on 3 days off or similar schedules no matter weekday or weekends. And not to mention someone who has their own business and had worked hard to get to a point to have some financial freedom

have a 5... cant justify getting the s just to upgrade the camera.. the rest is just icing on the cake... will wait till the 6... :apple:

The twice the speed of your 5 thing doesn't thrill you? :p

But seriously, I don't know why people with the previous year's phone think they're making some kind of big decision not to get the new one. This year it's 5 owners talking about the 5s not being good enough. Next year it'll be 5s owners talking about the 6 not being good enough while the 5 owners are raving about how good it is.

Most people are on two year contracts. Most people upgrade only after two years. Apple knows this. Most people know this. I don't know why anyone even considers an upgrade just one year later. Technology doesn't progress that fast. It never has. Do you throw away your computer every year and get a new one?

When are people going to realize that the latest and greatest is only an incremental update over the previous year's model, and that upgrades are meant to be on a two year cycle? It really serves no purpose to come here and point out when you're on the other cycle and won't be upgrading. Of course you won't be upgrading. You're on the other upgrade cycle. You won't notice any lack of speed on last year's model, and you'd be throwing away your money to upgrade now. For those with a 4S or older, this is a big upgrade and it makes financial sense. How is it so hard to understand the difference?

But if it was some stupid pair of shoes or a purse she would be all for it.
Right? :)

Actually my wife just reminded me to get 2 when I was pre-ordering.

I'm going to cover my ass and get in line and order at 12:01am depending on where I am in line.

The kind of people who has created their own business isn't, generally, the kind of people who stands in line for a week. It's not very productive.

Does anyone seriously think Steve Jobs would have stood in line for a week for anything?

Where did you get twice the speed?

Which store does everyone think would be the best option to park myself at next week? Will the Apple Store have the most stock or will the AT&T store, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, etc. be OK?

Apple Store will definitely have the most stock. They'll also have the most people lined up to buy up that stock. It really depends on how many other people realize that fact and try to go to another store as well.

Where did you get twice the speed?

Apple's announcement, plus a few benchmarks that have already come out.

the tick tock refreshes arent designed to convince you to upgrade. normal customers dont upgrade annually because theres no reason to, and youll be docked by your carrier.

As much as I'd love one just for the sake of having a new toy to play with, can't justify it over my current 4S. If there had been a 128GB option, I'd be all over it.

I have a hard time accepting responses like these. No offense to you or anyone, but... With resale value of the last iPhone 5. You can get (if you did it right away), over $300 back. I used Gazelle (there are other options, even Apple does it now, but for gift cards only at there stores). I am getting back for 2 iPhone 5 $660. That's $330 each. New iPhone 5s is $199 on contract. I'm making $131 on the deal per phone. It makes NooOOooooOOo sense to keep the old phone, not even for sentimental value, cause it works just fine and I don't "need" any more then that.

IDK, JMHO!!! :)

Well, guess I will order my iPhone 5s online...then check my local store to see if I can pick on up if supplies last.

Is anyone excited about getting there hands on the iPhone 5c to wait in line all day?

Same here, but I have hope that in about 3 months they'll quietly cut 16GB, make 32 GB the entry and add 128GB.

For that price tag it really should have 128GB.

You're getting $330 for a 16GB iPhone 5 through Gazelle?
If not, you're comparing apples to oranges.

I also have 2 extra lines on my account (4 total). I rotate between the 2 each time a new phone comes out (iPhone that is). Which has been each year so far. It's $10 extra per line each month. Even with that payment, I'm making $20 for doing so. Since these things aren't meant to last for 5 years like a computer does. They are cheap enough to get the process working (monthly costs being what they may, but if $20 extra is too much then, the iPhone shouldn't be what someone should purchase in the first place). I just don't think it is worth sticking with the older phone anymore. It's just too easy to sell the old one, and more then enough people ready to purchase it. You make money on the process (even just a little) and ALWAYS get a new phone.

This would go a lot easier if the 5S preorder were the day before. So you could preorder on 19th and see if and when you can get your phone. Then default to waiting in line.

I think there are going to be long lines for this device. But a bit of it is being manufactured by the late pre-order date.

If the 5C sells out for pre-order before launch day, that is going to be amazing. Product level should be huge. And it is last year's technology. I expect the phone to sell great in the stores since it will look great. But it doesn't seem like a preorder device.

Well, Samsung will need some material for their commercials. This should do.

Nothing says don't buy a product like pointing out how many people are willing to wait in line for one right?

This. Apple wants the lines for publicity sake. You can't show how enthusiastic people are for a product if they preorder it online.

Sorry but to get those two iPhone 5's didn't you either have to commit to a 2 year contract (making the $199 on contract cost for the 5s not available to you) or pay the full unsubsidized price of $649 dollars leaving you with a loss of $ 319 per phone.

Yes! I did it a week or so before they announced the new one. My friend did it yesterday, and they gave him $315. So, the longer you wait the less ya get but, still. We just use the cavit of having to pay for phone lines we don't use, but by doing so (and timing it right). You can get your new iPhone at contract price (not full price), each year. For the extra $10 a line, it works out to about $10 made over the year once you sell the old phone. Not doing it for the extra money back (its nice but, not a big deal), but for the reason that I want the new phone anyway. It's just financially the right thing to do so more then anything.

It is a nice upgrade, but not being able to pre-order means that unless you are willing to camp out in line, you probably will not get the phone until 2 - 3 weeks later.
Hell if it is anything like the 5, some of the wait times where 6 weeks out.

Best Buy currently has my broken iPhone 5 held hostage while they wait for a replacement refurb one to come out of backorder. If they don't find one in 10 more days, the store has to hand me a new one. Here's to hoping they don't find one and are forced to give me a 5S. Wishful thinking, I know.

Negative, I have 2 extra lines (family plan my wife and I, plus 2 unused lines). Each line is $10 extra a month. So I get out of it about $20 at the end of selling my old phone. It's not much to jump up and down about, but I get the new phone at $199, and make it back at the time I sell it to start it all over again.

This works so long as I can sell it at such a price. And Gazelle has been very good at that for my last 2 phones. I'm sure there are other places, not trying to plug them or anything. But, just what I used and works for me.

People will spend $1000 dollars on a TV while they watch it 2 hours a day. I use these devices constantly and rely on them. I use them for email, browsing, shopping, work etc. The time I save having such a powerful device is mind blowing. A lot of people are downplaying the speed improvement. I think it's going to be greater than people are expecting compared to the 5. Rumor has it the A7 is a quad proc vs dual proc. This is a big deal. I have one year remaining on my contract and I am upgrade eligible. I can sell the Iphone 5 16GB on Ebay for at least $400 and buy the Iphone 5S 64 GB for $399. I don't understand why anyone would buy the inferior 5C to save $100. I am of the opinion the difference in the processor and the improved camera is worth the upgrade. I do probably rely on these more than the AVG Joe as I work in the information technology industry. I am just of the opinion the power of these devices and how much people use them makes them worth the money, especially if you can afford it financially.

Exactly. There is really no benefit in keeping your old phone if you are on AT&T or Verizon. They don't offer any discounts on the monthly rates if you don't upgrade. I am more than satisfied with my iPhone 5 but it would be stupid to lose what amounts to a free upgrade when my contract runs out. I would have actually upgraded early and taken a slight hit but the fingerprint sensor isn't accessible by apps and isn't linked to NFC yet.
