Just read that Jefferies & Co. analyst Peter Misek downgraded apple stock because the yield for the 5s are terrible and Apple will not be able to meet demand.

Soooo what color 5c will you be getting?

Negative, I have 2 extra lines (family plan my wife and I, plus 2 unused lines). Each line is $10 extra a month. So I get out of it about $20 at the end of selling my old phone. It's not much to jump up and down about, but I get the new phone at $199, and make it back at the time I sell it to start it all over again.

This works so long as I can sell it at such a price. And Gazelle has been very good at that for my last 2 phones. I'm sure there are other places, not trying to plug them or anything. But, just what I used and works for me.

That's a cool idea! Luckily my wife does not care to much about her phone so I use her upgrade and mine and pass my older phone down to her. So this year I use my own upgrade for the 5S, hand the 5 down to her (was her upgrade) and sell her 4S (which was originally mine.) :D

What we won't do to have the latest and greatest.

We have the exact same strategy, except this year it's my wife's upgrade that will get me the 5S.

Some people marry into money, I married into iPhones.

As if he would know. When had he ever accurately predicted anything related to Apple?

That desnt surprise me, its the first time apple havent even mentioned the release date for the secondary countries.

Apple's announcement, plus a few benchmarks that have already come out.

I think you're confusing benchmark speed vs. real world usage speeds. Things won't load twice as fast, or boot up in half the time.

I did that once. My wife didn't like the idea much after that, LOL :D
We both had 3G's (I had it first, then gave it to her and got another one refurbished for like $99), and a few iPod's between us (older ones). We sold everything to Gazelle, took that and go new iPhone 4 (she got it first cause my phone was still on contract). I got the 4s once my phone was up, sold it and used it to help pay for the 4s. Once the 5 came out I got 2 more lines (our contracts were not up at the time), and sold the 4(s)'s. Got the 5 on the new contract, and kept the new lines going forward (they ended in Dec, and May). So this go around, we will not be paying for new phones, and the cost of getting to that point nets us $20. The 6 hopefully comes out next year (So long as it's after May!), we can do it again! :)

Anyone familiar with iPhone4U? Just wondering if this is an outlier or indicative of what sales will be.

iPhone 5S & iPhone 5C demand “truly phenomenal”

“The demand for the new iPhone 5c and 5s has been truly phenomenal in the first few days of pre-registration. We have already seen double digit growth in pre-registrations compared to the same period for iPhone 5 last year, and with the exceptional rate in which we are receiving these, we are predicting that the new handsets will set a record as generating the most pre-registrations ever at Phones 4u,” said Scott Hooton, Chief Commercial Officer at Phones 4u.

He added: “To date, this interest has also shown that 75 per cent are intending to purchase the new iPhone 5c or 5s on 4G, so not only are we expecting pre-orders of the iPhone 5c to go through the roof this weekend, we are gearing up for an exceptionally busy launch day on 20th September, when both officially go on-sale at Phones 4u stores across the country and online.”

As much as I'd love one just for the sake of having a new toy to play with, can't justify it over my current 4S. If there had been a 128GB option, I'd be all over it.

Nonsense!!! If you would be prepared to shell out the big bucks for a 128gb, you would have had an iphone 5 by now and most likely an iphone 5s next week.

I would have bought the new Ferrari Italia if it came in brown- so I guess I'll stick with my Toyota

I think gold will be very popular too. It's going to be a novelty. It's a tasteful gold but I'd never, ever, buy an iPhone in that color.

A novelty? I love it! I think it's really classy! But a new colour will definitely sell well.

Anyone planning to use an upgrade, DO NOT order online at 12:01 and then attempt to find one in a store at 8:00. Your upgrade will be used at the time of your online purchase, and you will not be able to received subsidized pricing in-store.

I just visited an AT&T store, and this is what I was told.

according to my wife, waking up at 3AM to preorder "a stupid phone" means you have no life.

You might want to double-check that you do, in fact, have one.

Do you listen to everything your wife tells you? I got up at 3am to pre order the 5 - and I do in fact have a life. People do so because they are excited and want the latest and greatest now! And that's their choice. Who are we to say how other's should carry on about their life? Overtime, my priorities have shifted. Now, if I get up at 3am, it's because of my 17 month old.

And so begins the mass exodus from Apple begins...

Are you kidding? The mass exodus happened two years ago. It was a non-event, so many people don't remember.

It's like when the world ended last December. People were just too busy with their day to day lives to notice.

The end of the world and mass exodus used to be more impressive, but we've become so jaded....

Just FYI if you want a 5, T-Mobile reduced the price of those today to $99 on contract and $550 for outright.

I have a hard time accepting responses like these. No offense to you or anyone, but... With resale value of the last iPhone 5. You can get (if you did it right away), over $300 back. I used Gazelle (there are other options, even Apple does it now, but for gift cards only at there stores). I am getting back for 2 iPhone 5 $660. That's $330 each. New iPhone 5s is $199 on contract. I'm making $131 on the deal per phone. It makes NooOOooooOOo sense to keep the old phone, not even for sentimental value, cause it works just fine and I don't "need" any more then that.

IDK, JMHO!!! :)

Somewhat problematic when you factor in:

A. You're comparing a trade in value of the 64GB model vs the upgrade price of the 16GB model

B. Most people don't get yearly upgrades

If you have an upgrade the math works out fairly well. If you don't.....you have a pretty wide gap to cover in price.

Target

Just got back from Target. I was only the 2nd person to place the "pre-order" from that location, so this doesn't seem to be that well publicized.

What the rep told me is that they are taking pre-orders over the next several days. They'll then use that order to submit to the warehouses and hope to fill the order. Once the phone arrive (presumably the 19th), they'll email customers to let them know that the phone arrived and that they have 48hrs to pick up their phone (obviously can't pick it up before the 20th). If you don't pick it up, it goes to the next person on the list.

why is it a stupid phone? no life is waiting online for 10 hours to buy a cell phone. what i'm doing is quite simple

and why is this according to your wife? who asked her?

tell her to keep it quiet & get back to the corner she works at :p

I just ordered mine at the Target in Watertown, MA. This is a very busy store, and I was the first person to order a 5S of any variety. She told me given that I'm first on the list, it's guaranteed for launch day. I'm to call that morning and make an appt to come pick it up.

Preordered a Space Gray 32GB 5S for Verizon. They did not have 64GB on the list for those that want one.

While I do plan to upgrade our phones (currently using a 4) I won't be ordering online or standing in line. I'll let all the "excitement" blow over and then get them...sometime.
