will the uber expensive unlocked ones be available at launch? Waiting in line is bad enough, but waiting in line only to find out they're only selling Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint models would be particularly painful since I have no intention on signing a 2-year contract.

They combined iPad and iPad mini sales. Other companies don't even provide sales figures. Has Asus or Google given any figures for the new Nexus 7? I'd be very surprised if Apple announces separate sales figures for the 5C and 5S.

Sure, but Apple has singled out iPhone sales in the past. Last year a press release was issued on iPhone 5 sales alone, not total iPhone sales. The sales record is with the flagship model, year over year.

As for what other companies do how is that relevant to how the iPhone 5s & c sales are reported?

...and 8 hours earlier in the UK!

(We can order from 12:01 BST...)

If its 12:01 am pacific time, it goes by whatever time it is in your particular country when its 12:01 pacific time. So in this case the UK is 8 hours later than pacific time, so that means it will be 8:01 am UK time.

It was the same last year with the iPhone 5 :)

replying to myself: looks like they should have them. I didn't think Apple's site would have the individual models and configurations all available to click on, since you can't add anything to a cart yet. But they do!

Nothing like paying $849 for a phone!

Does the apple store app auto update? So if I'm looking at the 5s that I can't order, when its 3:01 for me, will it auto update and a button show up saying buy now?

for what it is worth - chatting w/ an apple rep. not a flat out "no" to in store pickup option. this is the 2nd rep that has given that answer. maybe hope that the option will be available??

As much as I'd love one just for the sake of having a new toy to play with, can't justify it over my current 4S. If there had been a 128GB option, I'd be all over it.
I'm in the same boat: 4S and wasn't tempted enough with the 5 or 5S. However, I'll be all over the 6!
LTE is enough to justify it over your 4S. (Well, assuming you have a good carrier).
I originally felt the same. I'm fine with my iPhone 4S... the 5S is sweet, but I can easily wait. But then a friend mentioned that I've been paying AT&T for subsidizing my 4S. If I continue paying AT&T the same monthly service cost, since they don't lower it once you've paid off your subsidy, I'm essentially wastefully spending more to pay off a phone that is already fully bought. Wouldn't it make more sense to trade mine in and put that monthly AT&T bill subsidy toward something and not just straight into AT&T's pocket?

Can anyone confirm or deny that if you are on a corporate discount program with your carrier Apple can NOT activate the phone at the Apple Store?

AT&T Next

I don't know if anyone else has considered this but I checked into it. IF you want to enroll in AT&T's 'Next' Plan where you pay 1/20 of the retail price extra per month and can get a new phone in 12 months, you have to get your new phone through AT&T. Only AT&T can sign you up for this program.

I don't like the plan since you pay the taxes on the retail price for the phone PLUS 60% of the phone's retail price over the year. Let's do the math for a 64GB iPhone 5S:

Retail price = $849
Taxes on $849 = approximately $85 (YMMV by State)

Total paid = 85 + (12 * (849/20)) = 85 + (12 * 42.45) = 594.40

The kicker is: You don't own the phone at the end! You HAVE to give it back to AT&T to get the next phone (or pay the difference).

In effect, you're leasing the phone for 60% of its retail price. No thanks. Some folks may like the idea but I'll pass.

So now the question is... is there a definitive answer as to if you get the unsubsidized ("T-Mobile") phone, if it will work completely and properly on Verizon and AT&T? Apparently the hardware will work with all bands, but it wouldn't surprise me if they're still locked down software-wise, depending on who you buy from.

Why is it a stupid phone? Because my wife isn't interested in it. Anything she isn't interested is, by default, stupid. Even more so if I happen to be interested in it.

No one asked her, it's just what she told me last year when the light from the laptop woke her up at 3AM and she later reiterated when I told her I planned to do the same this year.

I may be a stupid idiot who gets up at 3AM to preorder a stupid phone, but I know better than to tell her to keep it quiet.

i'm just confused now on where this is going so i won't be giving another response but i do apologize for the bad comment

I'm not Pro-NEXT but AT&T is not charging $849/20. They are charging 16GB=$27 32GB=$32 64GB=$37 under the NEXT program. That means you will pay $37 x 20 months = $740.

Also, don't forget that with NEXT there is no $36 activation fee.

Retail price = $849
Taxes on $849 = approximately $85 (YMMV by State)
NEXT Total Year 1 = $85tax + (12 * ($37mon)) = $529
vs
Two Year Agreement + 64GB=$399 + $85tax + $36activation = $520

ONLY DO NEXT IF YOU WILL GET A NEW PHONE EVERY YEAR. IF YOU UPGRADE EVERY TWO YEARS IT IS NOT WORTH IT.

NEXT Year 2 = $85 + (12 * ($37mon)) = $529
Two Year Agreement + 64GB=$849 + $85 + $36 - (Used Last Year Phone) $425= $545

Read the previous part if you still don't get it.
Now take a peak at the future were we all live in peace... sure fingerprint is great.

Ok now take a peak into the future but a future thats more as our current one with corruption, greed, wars, poverty, dept etc. and none in government and the business world who you can really trust. Still think fingerprint is such a good idea?

Do you think showing your face in public is a good idea?
Having Google record the websites you visit through ads?
Having telcos record where you go?

The fingerprint reader stores a description of fingerprints.
It can recognize a finger, but you cannot reconstruct a fingerprint with
that data. A different device will not recognize your finger with that data.
All other information on the phone is easier to get and more valuable than
a fingerprint.

Your phone can be tapped, your emails read - of what importance can your
fingerprint be that you suddenly couldn't use a phone anymore?

I'm not trying to be argumentative here but I'm curious where you got the $37 figure. When I called AT&T, they told me 1/20 of the cost. When I said that was 42.45, they did not correct me.

And thanks for the reminder about the activation fee. I had forgotten that.

Why not just make everyone order online? Then a week later people can see them in the stores?

Target is currently accepting pre-orders for all iPhone 5S models. Inventory will be processed in the order in which it was received and pre-ordered phones will be dispatched depending upon demand to individual stores scheduled for launch day release. You will receive an email prior to launch day notifying you that the phone has arrived and is under embargo until launch day. You must schedule an appointment with the Target Mobile specialist prior to launch day in order to pick-up and activate your device.

Here's my pre-order receipt as a reference.

Enjoy!

Did you receive any emails from Target? I haven't heard from them via email yet. I did however get that same form from the store.

They can activate it. I took my husband to a store to get his 5 a week after launch last year (man refused to preorder like I did).

He's got a corp discount and it was no problem.

Years ago, their system could not handle corporate upgrades. I think that problem has been fixed for awhile now.

I did my 3GS upgrade in store years ago. No problem. All my others were preorders after that.

I do recall issues with my original iPhone and my 3G, though.
