I'm just looking forward to all the people praising how amazing their phone's display is and how they can see everything so much better and that it just makes perfect sense to use a phone "this" size. It might be fun to then then cross-reference those praises to those who mocked Android phone sizes and complain about their pockets or holding up an iPad to their ear to make a call.

I look forward to this too if Apple does release a larger iPhone. I have so many friends and colleagues that dissed Android's larger screen I get to laugh at.

On a serious note, I hope Apple does, it only helps us consumers with more choices and it forces manufacturers to up their game on future models.

two sizes

4.7" unapologetically plastic (for the masses) - sell mostly through contract

3.5" - 3.75" aluminum or other metal, with well anodize finished - sell at $700 and above exclusively off contract. Make it the thinnest, lightest and most powerful phone.

yes, I want to able to carry my phone without other people or I knowing it. Yes, I want to feel snobbish.

Are you kidding? Apple is one of the few companies that are holding out on larger displays. Almost every other manufacturer has a phone in their lineup that has a display larger than 4".

the sad fact is that with a case on the Mega you cannot fit it in a normal pair of jeans or pants.

The mega is in a whole different league. It just feels like cheap shots that people keep posting pictures of a 6.3 inch phone and try to pass it off as a 5.5 inch device. So that they can try to make 5.5 inches seem bigger to everybody, and then mock it.

If you're going to try and make 5.5 inches seem giant next to a 5S, they could at least post the right phone.

I really, really don't want a larger phone. I have huge hands and would really not like a bigger phone. That's what a tablet is for.

Not sure it's the screen size that's making some people leave the phone..
Screen size for me is perfect, blocking 4G for my provider on the other hand..

What carrier is that?

----------

Still find it hard to believe Apple will decrease the pixel density of the next iPhone. One screen size is easy to believe. I never thought they'd release two new sizes.

I agree entirely here. I don't think they will decrease the pixel density, that's like a step backwards.

I personally doubt Apple is ready to completely ditch the current form factor. A side bezel-less 4.7" screen could just about fit in an enclosure the size of a 5S, which will satisfy many people. Then those desiring a larger version, could have that with a possible 5.5-5.7" iPhone.

I concur. We must work on an efficient process to expose those bigots, liars and opinion-changers immediately. I don't think that the usual "OMG this forum and it's sheep is stoopid1!!!" will do when it comes to malicious acts such as posting "wow I like the 5 inch screen!". I'd suggest splitting up the "hunt for perfect-screen-size-bigots" alphabetically, let's see who else wants to help then we can assign letters to each agent to do that cross-referencing research.

Has Apple ever said anything about why they stayed with smaller screen sizes for so long? Was it primarily because of one handed use? If they go to a 4.7" inch screen it won't be a one-handed device anymore. The HTC One is pretty thin but I still can't use it one-handed.

'Today we announce two new products that will change the industry. A wearable device that's keeps track of our health and an all new design iPhone. But wait, don't you get it? These are not two separate devices. This is one device!'

Absolutely ridiculous! It's like holding an iPad mini up to your head lol

The perspective on that shot is all out of whack. It looks like the Note 3 is being held closer to the camera than the iPhone. Look at the difference in finger sizes.

1280x720 would have the same aspect ratio as the current 4" iPhones, and would deliver a nearly-identical PPI at 4.7."

1280x720 at 5.5" would have a nearly identical PPI to the full-size iPad.

Apple would be laughed out of the building if they just now released 720p phones. They have to go 1080 with these.

Thank you. People look so stupid when they say things like that. Just say you prefer a small phone, don't use ridiculous hyperbole that's been done a million times.

Remember all the people rejecting the iPhone 5 design when it leaked? 4 inch screen? Now everyone eats both up and proclaims they're perfect. It'll be the same with the new iPhones when they launch.

IMO, a 4.95" screen [ like that on Nexus 5 ] would be perfect for the iPhone, and not just elongated like the iP5/5S !!

I'll never understand why people think the 5/5s is some special super long aspect ratio. It's 16:9, the same as EVERY other phone on the market.

I carry two phones, a 4" 5S and a 4.7" HTC. Personally, I prefer the 4" because I use my phone mostly with one hand. I'm sure Android has something to do with my iPhone preference, but that said, I think it makes sense for Apple to release 2 different sized iPhones, but with similar specs; just like the iPads.

I always felt like the "two size" rumor was misunderstood. It wasn't that Apple was testing two sizes to ship, I think they were testing two suzes to see which one is better. I do hope that it's 4.7, and not 5.5

By "one-handed" you are actually saying "one-thumbed"

If you only use a phone with one hand... your palm and 4 finger must hold the device... and you interact with the screen using only your thumb.

Well guess what... the iPhone is an amazing pocket computer. I will use as many fingers as I possibly can!!!

Pinching and zooming... tapping with 2 or 3 fingers in some apps... there is waaay more you can do than with just one thumb.

Honestly... "one-handed" is nowhere near the top of my wish list.

I know it's already been said a dozen times in this thread...But honestly! Who actually believed that Apple...APPLE! would release a FADlet? (See what I did there? ;) )

First of all they are just a rediculous size. Also, Apple realise that any change in screen size is a pain for developers... So they will do everything possible to minimise any disruption to their app ecosystem, while trying to cater the market demands of course.

Apple changed the aspect ratio...

Apple changed the pixel density...

Do you wish those thing never happened so it wouldn't have been such a pain for developers?

I recognize your sarcasm and salute you.
