I know many disagree, and that's fine, but every passing month Apple is just giving me big Nokia/Blackberry vibes. No news related to Apple gives me any confidence that a course correction is near.
What course correction is needed? It’s not like Apple is refusing to participate in the AI hysteria. They just misstepped big time with their delayed features. You can’t compare that to BB’s refusal to move to touchscreens and keyboards until it was too late.I know many disagree, and that's fine, but every passing month Apple is just giving me big Nokia/Blackberry vibes. How, exactly, is AI helping normal people?
How does Apple Toxic Fandom show up in a post about an AI money pit (OpenAI) and a Brit designer? It's what happens when you get bored at a company shipping the same product every year with an extra button or a slightly different colour.

I don’t understand how it’s a strategic blow? They didn’t announce anything.Apple faces yet another strategic blow. This development could fundamentally disrupt their position in the market, reminiscent of Blackberry’s downfall when they clung to physical keyboards while Apple revolutionized the industry with touchscreen technology. History may be repeating itself, but with Apple now in the vulnerable position.
This is when you know we are at the peak of AI valuation bubble. Just absurd.

If I had a dollar for everyone that said Apple was going to fail, but they keep going up. It feels like the people holding the signs that say, the world is coming to an end. Sure they’ll right sooner or later just like a broken clock is right two times a day.I know many disagree, and that's fine, but every passing month Apple is just giving me big Nokia/Blackberry vibes. Right. It could end up having a screen, and I think it should, personally. I’m hoping for an iPod Nano like device, or something wearable like glasses. Will be interesting to see what comes of thisWhat is “this”? Neither one said. They didn’t show a prototype of anything.
This is just a company saying “oh yeah, we absolutely have the iPhone killer and we have the original iPhone maker to help us do it… and we might possibly maybe but also maybe not announce it sometime next year maybe, but it’s great. I can’t tell you what it is or what it does or why you need it, but it’s so good.”
This was my first thought when Sam was describing the product...remember AI pin?
Apple has always iterated slowly. The iPhone 3GS was identical to the iPhone 3G except for the processor. People forget this stuff. The build quality of Apple products has never been better. My MacBook Pro is a better machine inside and out than anything from the Jonny Ive era.
I agree with your skepticism. I have a hard time seeing anything replacing the phone anytime soon. You need to be able to see things, and without a screen that is going to be a nonstarter for anyone who is looking to replace a phone. Augument, sure, but not replace. If Ive is involved it will be the thinnest AI device ever.
Also, I’m highly skeptical we’re moving away from screens towards voice as our primary interaction with our electronic leashes.
I hear you. I love Gruber's take on this deal;I know many disagree, and that's fine, but every passing month Apple is just giving me big Nokia/Blackberry vibes. No news related to Apple gives me any confidence that a course correction is near.
